Really impressed with your stamina Rusty.  I still go out for walks but only pick litter probably 1-in-5 of those as there's so little around here.  I play golf once in a while and pick litter up as I go but that's a little less benevolent than your motives  🙂

Out for a walk near my sister's today. Found two full 1 litre N2O cartridges partially concealed in undergrowth. What do I do with them (other than get off my tits)?

It's finally stopped raining!

Today's highlights include a builders blown away bag dragged to the nearest litter bin and a few flashing led disposable vapes in an otherwise boring early morning doggo walk!

let's get trolley'd!

Spotted this supermarket trolley about a mile from Aldi thrown down a gulley and starting to be claimed by nature.

Dragged it out with a few brambles and greenery attached. Met up with its errant M&S mate on the way back and got ourselves a convoy!

Cleaned it up and shoved it back in the queue - surprisingly there wasn't a pound coin in it😔

We're back in action!

Once more unencumbered by winter gloves and not needing the illumination of a torch Bert and I are litter picking again.

2 bags to start off with.

lighten up!

It's suddenly lots lighter at 6o'clock. You can now see the bagged shit that fellow dog walkers have thrown in the bushes over the darker winter months.

I don't go out of my way to pick up litter, I just pick up stuff and take it home or drop it in an empty bin. I'm very impressed with your efforts RNP. I take it home though, our non-recycling bin is rarely full and most litter goes in the recycling bin.

@edukator

I’m very impressed with your efforts RNP.

I'm out with the dog every morning in our local area. It's literally no bother for me to lunge at litter whilst walking past with Bert. I wish more dog owners did it.

I take it home though, our non-recycling bin is rarely full and most litter goes in the recycling bin.

I'm conscious that I'm picking up recyclable materials but unfortunately I don't have the capacity to segregate. Fellow Civic Pride litter pickers do separate their litter pick streams but they are retired and have more time on their hands.

"Lights out! Guerilla gardening, turn that shit up"

Xmas decoration plant rescued from somewhere at the time, shown for scale next to Berts leg. Planted in the guerilla garden this morning. Last year's chrimbo decoration trees are doing well but lost a few to deer nibbles.

Out walking with Bert in one of his favourite parks and noticed that lots of horse chestnuts have started germination/growing. Unfortunately they were in an area that's mowed so they wouldn't survive.
Collected and planted them in my guerilla garden tonight. If only 0.1% of all the acorns/conkers/wild seeds that I've picked up grow then it's going to be an awesome forest one day!

4x more Red bull than Monster Roadman this morning!

.......and with that fascinating fact that's it. I think this thread is done - it just feels like an echo chamber in here. I guess everyone has seen it by now and anyone who would be inspired has done so.
I'm not a social media influencer and there's only so many ways you can make a photo of a bin bag vaguely interesting.

I might do a weekly/monthly bump through the summer but I think daily is done.

Weekly update.

Started off annoyingly - nice Sunday evening walk over Holcombe moor/Peel tower and some McScroat has left a McCup on the ground. ****ing take it home🤬

Another evening walk and fly tipping under a roadbridge. Of course there's a Monster can present. I only associate Monster with utter ****s nowadays as discarded Monster cans are omnipresent. Sorry to anyone who actually enjoys it but 🤷‍♂️

On a positive note - spring time love is in the air. To anyone who has followed this thread for awhile - Millie's affection to Bert used to be unrequited. However over winter Mille has matured from a puppy to a lady dog and Bert is now interested.......very interested!

5bags of litter collected and left at various council collected bins along with other Civic Pride members bags.

Discarded Nando's packaging - previously I'd put it in the litter bin on the bus stop opposite. It's been there for years as I often put Bert's poo bags in it.
Recently however it's been removed🤷‍♂️

Couple of trolleys repatriated

Crow raided bins tidied in the local park

A56 dual carriageway footpath litter picked

Cemetery tidied - it's surprising how much Monster dead people can drink...

@towpathman

Thanks for the kind words.

I'm not an influencer by any means but it's difficult to try and maintain engagement when the subject matter is a daily bag of litter!

Regardless, Bert needs his local morning walkies so I'll carry on litter picking. Evening walks are adventure time!

So close.....yet so far🤷‍♂️

6 bags collected this week (one walk was a double bagger)

Sad to see dead fox, couldn't see anything obvious wrong with it.

Powered by litter! Rawtenstalls little known 1MW power station that is fed methane from the old covered over tip. Any STWers who have ridden Horncliffe wood trails have pedalled past it.

Dumped MaccyD's out of a chavchariot literally next to a bin.

@fasthaggis

I vaguely remember opposition in the local papers to the power plant at the time and it's proposed lifespan being 15years. It's now ~ 20years that it's been generating.

I've never seen any service engineers there to have a nosey at the actual engine/genset inside but it's a fairly compact footprint for the 1MW that it generates.

Weekly round up for anyone vaguely interested!?

Someone dumped a load of car parts in the local park, messaged LBC who diverted one of their bin emptying vans to collect👍

Crows emptying dog shit out of the bin again for food scraps🤮 tidied it up a few times.

Scroats chucking Tesco trolleys over the wall🤷‍♂️, a fellow Civic Pride member contacted Tescos to get their grappling hook out.

Homeless bloke and his two dogs living in a cheap tent in a local tree, LBC can't house him because of the dogs. Had a chat a few times and he goes to MrsRNP Monday community kitchen, nice chap & doggo's.

4 bags of litter collected!

Thanks but it's really not any big deal - I'm out with Bert every morning for an hour whilst he's sniffing and pissing, if I wasn't lunging at litter I'd be bored.

The rest of his walks are high energy adventures/running offlead/eating cyclists etc.

Bert was busy this morning cleaning up from this weekends celebrations that were held around Rawtenstall for his 10th birthday!!!

Happy birthday Bert!

I wonder how many bags of litter we've collected in total?

I won't touch on the point it was thrown in the bushes near the local McDonald's - it's the fact parents can't fix loose bearing bottom brackets and put the forks the correct way.

Anyway - Whitaker Park is looking lovely thanks to CivicPride

Sometimes you have to walk on by..... out in my neighbouring towns park and going in the opposite direction the trolley needs to go. A week later it's still there.

Other than that it's been a normal week of litter picking and dead badgers

RIVER ROULETTE!

Whenever it rains and we get a high river it always leaves a mystery prize when it abates that we can see from our living room. This time it was a sledge!

Got my wellys on and found a bonus bike whilst paddling! - also two bags of dredged litter.

Did some Himalayan balsam bashing in my guerilla garden on the land opposite - I've no idea what I'm doing with gardening but pretty stuff seems to be growing nicely.

Repatriated a trolley this morning, fixed a tree in the local park that had a broken support, picked 4 or 5 bags of litter in the last week.

Pippa's  (border collie pup) owner was asking where to get bags from as she is going too start litter picking once Pippa's walks increase.

Rawtenstall looking lovely as everything is in bloom thanks to CivicPride volunteers.

Britain in bloom judging day!

The whole town is looking spotless and lovely in full bloom. The road sweeper was out this morning doing the rounds and there are lots of other litter picking bags all over town ready for collection this morning with litter and weeds/dead headings. I only managed 1/4bag of micro pickings.

Good luck Rawtenstall and CivicPride, you make the town a great place to live!

Yesterdays bagged river rubbish was left at nearest LBC bin this morning for collection. Another full bag from the local park was collected by mid walk then half a bag on the way home that joined the earlier river rubbish.

Obvious statement is obvious but nice weather = more litter.

Not much recent activity due to being away for a short break but back on it this morning collecting litter and plastic that would otherwise clog our brains up.

Seeing as all my photos have disappeared heres what they looked like!

Unfortunately, despite an awesome set of mountainbike trails being built for them, a section of riders at my local trails in Leamington still dump shit everywhere.

Me and Harold picked it up.... again.

Getting darker in the mornings now when we set off at 6am so it's difficult to pick litter if you can't see it.

Couple of bags worth from the last few days to tidy up 'my patch' after being on holiday for two weeks.

It's now too dark at 6am to see any litter so I think that's it for now.

I've tried previously taping a torch to the litter picker but you need the ambient light to be able to see the litter in order to walk over and grab it rather than spotting it by torchlight. I'll still be litter picking stuff by hand and dumping it in the nearest bin but there won't be anymore updates for awhile.

Thanks to anyone who has picked litter up  having been inspired by this thread. See you again in the  Spring.

(The end of this morning's walk - half a bag and a repatriated trolley)

.......and we're back in business!

Its light enough again at 6am to see litter on Berts morning walks.

Lovely weather this morning, lots of snowdrops and daffodils in the local park, spring has definitely sprung! Anyone else joining me clearing away the winter months collections of Monster, Redbull,  MaccyD's and Costa litter?

One of my favourite local paths suffers from high tide so a lot of litter gets swept on to it with the tidal flow. I've already done one litter pick of the year and will carry on once it builds up after the tides. I also go along over the summer with a battery powered hedge clipper to keep the grass and reeds at bay otherwise mid summer you can't get through it. I take my picker with me whenever I go away in the van as well and litter pick wherever I end up parked up.

Slightly shorter 45 minute Bert walk this morning so I had time to pedal to work which I've not done for probably nearly a year. Bert goes to work with MrsRNP and twice a week goes Carni-cross training with Lucy who picks him up from the office and takes him running for an hour - so don't feel sorry for his reduced morning walk!

Picked up a bag full from our local mtb trails this morning.

We smashed it through there the other day on the bike and saw a load of tha yout' sitting around in the wooded section so I knew that it would be covered in their litter afterwards.

Yup

I'd like to give it the traditional, 'the dog helped me pick it up' etc, but no, Harold did absolutely nothing whatsoever to help me.

I mean, zero. Nothing. It was all me. 🙂👍

The Littlest Hobo (if anyone remembers that TV program from childhood)

"In today's episode Hobo helps clear up after the scruffy self centred people of Rossendale, and does two shits in the process"

No wonder I preferred watching the A-Team instead.

Woke up a bit early this morning so decided to do a route that I don't do very often.

Before I'd managed to pick any litter I repatriated a shopping trolley back to the nearby retail park. Crossing a main road provides enough shame/hassle that the trolleys never seem to progress any further than the end of the 1/2mile path.

That same retail path also resulted in picking one bag of litter that joined Saturdays bags from the group of Civic Pride volunteers that do the weekly cleaning of the dual carriageway into/out of our town.

The next section of my route is the bit I don't often do - it's boggy in winter and there is always lots of litter and I end up late because of it. Today was no exception - a heavy full bag collected. This has all been thrown/discarded from vehicles joining and on the A56.

Left this bag at the bus stop bin for collection.

The next section is a school route - when little Johnny's mum reckons her son has ADHD because he can't concentrate at school I think it might be something to do with the large Redbulls he drinks on route then throws in the bushes.

Third bag full and left at the heritage train station bin.

I actually hate this time of year - it's now light enough to see but too early in the season for vegetation to cover the winter months worth of bagged dog shit, piss bottles and stolen trolleys that I can't get to or do anything about.

This forum is useless.

Go to Pistonheads and search for Spring Clean if you want to see what bags of litter look like on a normal functioning website.

Spring cleaning carried on here;

Edited to add - I've tried posting a link to Pistonheads but it's ****ing impossible. Photos don't work properly on here.

It takes forever to load a page/post.

I cross posted my Cayenne thread onto Pistonheads and I was genuinely surprised as I'd forgotten how smooth and flawless posting/editing was on other forums - and it's free with unobtrusive advertising!

I'll come back when the forum works properly. If anyone is missing the sight of litter bags my user name is the same on Pistonheads.

IMG_0991.jpeg I've given up posting on this forum nowadays, but......

To any mountain bikers sessioning at Horncliffe woods - take your shit home with you.

I don't go this route in the darker months as the path from my direction goes through a farm. Just gone this way for the first time this year and the access road is littered with water and energy drink litter.

Its definitely mountain bikers - as it's clean beyond the turn off for the woods.

1 bag just on this section of my walk.
