I usually tell them that I'm not interested thankyouverymuch.

they don't even understand how to use money.
Shocking!
The lord works in mysterious ways.
serves him right...
What a numpty! Not heard of those guys before. Fascinating! Also good that the Indian government makes efforts to protect them.
He will be fine, he will be in heaven.
It's really weird to think of humans that cut off from modern "civilisation".
Makes me think of "The Village" (M Night Shyamalan) or similar movies.
I wonder, if they were aware of everything we have and the progress we've made, good and bad, whether they would choose to join us?

Idyllic life on private island, no taxes, no I'm a Celebrity, allowed to legally kill anyone they don't like - they would have to be bloody mental 😂I wonder, if they were aware of everything we have and the progress we’ve made, good and bad, whether they would choose to join us?
i don't know, these men (or women) of god. is it brainwashing?
i was recently at a funeral of a family member who spent her years missioning / crusading for god.
over her life she visited many countries incl. African states, even smuggling bibles into china,
and subsequently she caught many diseases (diptheria, malaria, typhoid etc etc, and then epilepsy)
To a rational person you could assign these illnesses to the fact she went to these far flung places that do not have clean water and high poverty, but to her it was just another challenge set by god.
live and let live..
i never got the whole religion thing, but i love/d travelling so we did have one thing in common

It's quite common for North Korean defectors to return to their homeland, simply because they struggle with adjusting to modern ways of living and an inability to relate to those around them, experiencing an extreme sense of loneliness.
Interesting question, but I doubt the adults would (or have the willingness to) integrate into our society.
Also, history suggests that such transitions do not always go smoothly, particularly with alcohol and drug abuse being an issue.
Personally I think it is fantastic that there is still part of the world almost completely untouched by modern civilisation.
Bloody militant atheists.
It's only a matter of time now before Woppit buys a spear.
I wonder, if they were aware of everything we have and the progress we’ve made, good and bad, whether they would choose to join us?
I wonder, now that I'm aware they exist and the lack of progress they've made, whether they would let me in?

theres plenty of examples of that closer to home. Theres a charity working in Spain with British ex-pats who are in the same boat.
🙂
It’s the islanders choice to live there. Clearly they know about us, we know about them.
They choose to live a nomads life and we should respect thier decisions, to have an intruder invade your privacy means they took the only option open to them.. As a Westerner it’s slightly disconcerting they chose to kill him, but he would have known the local laws on protecting the tribes and the reasons why.
Its reassuring to know the Indian government has chosen to protect the nomads way of life.. Insupport that.
That’s kharma for you. Also, it’s a neat example of nature’s way of culling the really stupid. Think of it as evolution in action.
I love that first picture in the link. Pretty much sums up “leave us alone”
Many of the Native peoples in Canada have struggled to reconcile our technological way of life with their own traditional, and land-based values. Consequently, even though most know exactly what sorts of things we ‘enjoy’, they choose precisely not to.
Personally I think it is fantastic that there is still part of the world almost completely untouched by modern civilisation.

I don’t think that is clear at all. The article states that they are so completely isolated from the outside world that there is a fear contact with us would kill them due to modern diseases.
Obviously they know we exist and they’ve seen helicopters etc but do we have any real idea what their comprehension of he outside world is?
live and let live..
Ha, try telling that to the Sentinelese!
"They choose to live a nomad's life"
The island is only 4 x 5 miles so they can't be that nomadic..
There must be some serious inbreeding going on .

No more so than any other close knit animal communities though?

Are we we still talking about Cornwall?
I read something about this drive ages back. Might have been on wiki.
Can't remember when in the 20th century but an explorer type tried to make contact with then by leaving a live pig tied up on the beach as a gift to them.
They slaughtered the pig and left it on the beach. He took that to mean he was not welcome.
They had contact with the British in the colonial era which decimated their population from memory.
It is truly fascinating though. Imagine looking up at an airliner with total incomprehension. An absolute anthropologists dream. We could probably learn a lot from them but in doing so we would also destroy them.

You not seen TOWIE no?

Nah - that'll be Barrow and Ulverston.
I spent a month on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands a few years ago and the message could not be clearer that you are not to venture to the smaller islands for very good reasons. The arrogance of ignoring this to 'spread the word of God' is unbelievable.
The anthropological museum on the main Island is fascinating.

Seriously?
I'm surprised and amazed and pleased that there are still a few protected tribes in the World. What with most countries being run by people with religious beliefs, it's quite a shock to hear that, at last, a people can be allowed to live without being brainwashed with their crap. Long may it continue.
great thread some genuine lols! silly sausage
amazing really, and that they live so close to 'civilisation' Google maps has some cool photos, you can see a shipwreck!

Isle of Wight. To some degree Portsmouth 😀
This kind of thing boils my blood. I remember reading something a while ago about a tribe who had been forcefully converted a while ago. There was a quote along the lines of "before we lived in the jungle, we were happy and lived for every day. Now we pray and hope for a better afterlife".
So, basically, you've taken a group of people from living their lives in happiness day to day, to now having a worse life but with the hope of an afterlife. I dislike organised religion at the best of times but this is just horrible.
The 200 or so residents of Pitcairn wouldn't kill you with bows and arrows. They have a gun shop.

Yes - unfettered by religious doctrine they're free to be the murderous xenophobes nature intended 🙂
Oh bugger, I've now got a Leapy Lee earworm.
'Murderous xenophobes'? Might they not just be protecting their borders and saving their community from what for them would be any number of plagues. Who wouldn't?

I knew we'd get a Brexit reference in eventually.
I'm not one to take glee in another's death, but good on the islanders!
There are numerous accounts of island / pacific atols being culturally and population decimated when christian missionaries were sent out to tame the natives - through the bringing in of disease, alcohol, drugs and in the population control enforced by the incoming clergyman.
IIRC, I read an article about the 2004 Tsunami and the article claimed there were very few casualties amongst the tribes of the A & N Islanders as they moved to higher ground when they sensed something unusual was happening. I'll try to find it.
I find the Islanders fascinating and I'm very jealous of anyone that has visited the areas where foreigners are permitted. I do hope they are left completely alone and the infrastructure that has crept in is left to the jungle.
