Damaged my hand at karate about 6 weeks ago and it is taking an age to mend. Dr Google would suggest that it is a type 2 sprain to my middle 2 fingers.
Anyone else done this and how long did it take to heal?
I sprained my wrist once when painting a fence - up and down, up and down, up and down...
How much improvement during those 6 weeks? If none at all then ---> GP/fracture clinic/physio

Bruising and swelling has gone, but it hurts like a ****er if I bump it.
Are you able to move and use it? One of the big risks with small joints like fingers is that they can stiffen up frighteningly fast, and it can be next to impossble to get that full range back. Take a look at it, if it doesn't bend and straighten as much as yhe other hand then I'd say there's still a good case for seeing a physio, especially if it's your dominant hand or you rely on full movement of those fingers for something that's important to you
Everything bends and I can use it, but if it gets bumped it really let's me know about it.

Well, that's a rookie mistake. You paint the fence side to side.
I'd get them looked at.
My Wife got whacked in the finger playing netball by the ball - it bounced & she misjudged a catch so her hand was coming down to meet it as the ball was bouncing up.
Was sore for a week or so & didn't really seem to be getting better, with quite a lot of bruising.
Can't remember the exact details, but I think she chipped the bone where the tendon joins the finger or something like that.
She had severely reduced mobility for ages, which got better with physio, but she still doesn't have full range of motion in it.
Hand injuries might seem like a small thing, but given how much you need them for every day life it is worth making sure you check there is no lasting damage.

I'll let you tell Mr Miyagi that! 🤣🤣
Nearly broke a thumb playing catch with a medicine ball. We used to throw it (quite violently) between a few mates and i had a thumb in the wrong place and didn't try to absorb the impact. Could not move it for weeks.

Yep I share your pain, six weeks Saturday since I sprained my index finger on prominent hand and it's still not right. Joint itself is still fatter than usual and I still can't make a properly closed fist without pain. I've not been to the Dr as I'm sure they'll just say yep it's sprained and I'm a stubborn so n so so I reckon pure idiocy will mean I get full range of movement back eventually. I can play squash with minimal pain now and it gets less painful the longer I play. Shocked at just how long it's taking to be right mind!
Sounds exactly like mine. :-/
Yep, fractured my little finger on 19th August as I slipped on some stairs and slammed into int a railing with and audible crack. Took a couple of weeks to be painless.
Then this morning stubbed it end on on the bathroom door reaching to open it, similar audible crack was heard:
Ffs!

Daughter was on first name terms with Dave at the local minor injury unit when she played netball - broken fingers are surprisingly common for a non contact sport.
Get fingers checked asap - MrsMC broke a finger back in 2014 when we were on holiday. Initial cock up at A&E before being referred to the specialist hand unit back home at Derby. 3 operations and 9 years later, she still has a broken finger.
6 weeks = 1 U(nit) of M(edical) T(ime). If it’s not well on its way to getting better at this point, it’s time to seek some expert advice. Book a routine appointment with your GP or even better First Contact Physio (if you have them?). Probably another UMT will have passed by then.
Having said that it’s probably a collateral ligament sprain to the intra-phalangeal joints, and they’re notoriously slow to heal.
This is post-dislocation following a wash-out on a little drop on my commute home from work. Thought it had popped in OK, but clearly not! Happened about 10 weeks ago, and was quite tender for about 8 of those. So I'd imagine a decent strain will be sore for a while.
Edit: that's the straightest it can get on attempted extension.
My grandson was Ella Toone and I was Mary Earps. Caught a full volley from about 8 yards on the end of my right hand. My little finger is still painful 6wks later, but getting better. He understands what Sweary Mary means.
Did something to my thumb after a tree collision in the French Alps, assumed it was just a sprain. Got it checked whilst over there due to excessive swelling - broken hand :(.
Worth getting it looked at!
About 5 weeks ago at Leogang.
Still can’t bend my thumb at the joint nearest to the nail. The inability to grip stuff really does compromise daily life!
yeah, dunno how you can be sure it's not broken without having it checked! Did similar recently after on off, went to docs about a cut that needed stitches and they said "better have a look at that hand whilst your here!". It was swollen but I assumed bruised as could still use it, etc, just painful. Nope, broken! Needed a splint to heal up properly.Did something to my thumb after a tree collision in the French Alps, assumed it was just a sprain. As a student I was having a lecture on gorge walking - I put my middle and ring fingers into a pocket on the rock face, and swung on it across the waterfall while wearing a large rucksack with wet rope in. It was pointed out to me, the cold having numbed my hands, that my middle finger was now 'upside down' at the tip.
It got further awkward when later at Bangor hospital with my tutor some awkward questions were asked of him as apparently a twisted fracture is unusual to see and usually administered as part of torture...
(plus of course another broken finger climbing steps and a broken toe nipping around sailing dinghies in sandals...)
I dislocated a finger once, putting an elastic band around a deflated inner tube. Couldn't really use that hand for a couple of weeks. That was quite stupid.
I got a sharp stabbing pain at the base of my right hand middle finger when moving a heavy wood cabinet and the finger 5 weeks later is still twice the size of the left hand one- tried biking after a few weeks with it strapped up and it wasnt great.....doctor has referred me to a consultant and i got the letter on friday suggesting 15 Feb 2024 for an appointment!!! Dusting off the business medical insurance in the morning
Where’s the forum expert on this when you need him?

Last I heard he had a broken pin sticking out his pinky...
Did a not very fast superman landing, misjudging a rut after a bit of a drop maybe a year ago. Jumped up shouting "I'm ok, I'm okay" , then saw two of my fingers were bent sideways at the middle joint "er, I'm not okay!". I blame half finger gloves. They just looked so wrong I had to pop them back in right away. Anyway...

Same, though i regret it a bit as a year later they're still a bit swollen and won't fully extend . No pain now or any loss of function, and given the rest of me is a long way out of warranty, I'm okay with that. But others might not be.
Well, went training on Sunday and last night and my hand is like a claw this morning.
Phoned the GP to start the process of getting a referral and not only do they now have a muscular/skeleto clinic at the surgery but they had a free spot first thing tomorrow morning!
Boom!
After tripping on some steps I damaged my index finger. That was 6 months ago and it feels like its 95% healed. A month or so ago I got an insect bite on the same finger and it swelled up to twice its size and hurt like hell but also with the itch you get from insect bites.
Update: Had an X-Ray 10 days ago and am waiting for the the results. However, last night I was stretching my fingers and there was an audible double crack from my hand.
It seems to be much better today. Still sore, but I have full movement.
