Can't find a thread for BBC Sport personality of the year.

MY vote goes to the wonderful Dame Sarah Storey.

There's plenty of time left to vote

Good to see Sir Chris looking well and chipper. No better person to tell us about the Olympics.

Seems odd to just have it on a Tuesday?

It should be Jasmine Paris for completing the Barkley Marathon. A far bigger achievement than any of those nominated.

Cav should be in this year’s award

Why...? What's he achieved THIS year...? ??‍♂️

He's an absolute shoe in for the lifetime award though...

Realistically, fantastic though some of the other individual performances have been, Joe Root has absolutely dominated Test cricket batting rankings in 2024, and is now 5th on the list of all time run scorers and showing no sign of slowing up!

Luke Littler should be a shoe in for young sports personality of the year though...

Seems odd to just have it on a Tuesday?

They keep doing it on a weekday the last few years for some reason... Was always much better when it was on a Sunday night!

Why do they keep saying triathalon?

I thought it was already announced that he was getting the lifetime achievement award? Or have I let something slip now?

Because they had hours and hours of elocution lessons to stop them saying "tri-aff-a-lon"...

Cav won SPOTY in 2011/12? Absolutely deserves the Lifetime award, but then so does Sarah Storey - remember she didn't start as a cyclist!

Yes... But she hasn't retired yet!

I suspect when she does, they'll award it to her that year.

Was it a massively downscaled event this year?

I know historically it was in a fairly big arena/venue

Felt much smaller scale in the Salford studio this year

Stupid telly. I recorded the whole programme (had to go out for a while), watched it and just as Sir Chris is about to answer the winner, then it clicks off, they must have overrun. arrgghh.

I suspect that it's been done before, and I fully expect to get flamed, but darts? And has he actually won anything. Watched him get whooped by the other Luke in the final so.......

Keeley Hodgkinson a worthy winner for her bravado and domination of her event this year.

Cav so deserves the lifetime achievement,  he started winning before my son#2 was born, and still going this year.. ...part of the reason I have enjoyed the TdF these last few years, and had a few tears when he did 30-34 and again this summer

Totally forgot this was on. Dame Sarah Storey did a speech at an awards ceremony I was at last week, what an amazing athlete and person she is. Gutted I missed my opportunity to vote.

Judging by the amount of boo'ing he got....I guess others thought the same.

Disappointed for yee. But unless you watched that olympic triathlon event the magnitude of what he did has no significance.

+1 on Jasmine Paris massively inspirational and bringing exposure to ultra racing to the(limited) masses

Keely's a worthy winner though. Mass media inspiration for generations following the Olympics. I'd have been more annoyed if the darts had taken top spot.

Yes, it even told you during the show. Grand Slam, PC Finals and World Series that not bad at 17 which is why there were lot of cheers.

I was hoping for Root as he’s achievement is pretty incredible but I’m happy Keeley won as well deserved.

I'd imagine he was in the discussion but it's really hard to say they got it wrong with Mondo. He's not lost an event this year (I think didn't lose one last year either), broken the outdoor world record twice, won the Olympic title, he's currently also the reigning world indoor and outdoor champion and indoor world record holder. And for shitz n gigz he had a 100m race with Jacob Ingebritsen and won with a sub 10.37.

Indeed, it's exactly what I did. Was a bit annoyed that Sir Chris got cut off at the big moment.

Sad that Dame Sarah didn't even get to second or third.

Delighted that KH won.

A genuinely great personality as well as an inspirational athlete.

It's decided by committee isn't it? I'm 100% certain they'd have had the "is darts a sport and will we look silly if we give it to LL?" chat.

Haha, then I'm almost surprised there wasn't an organised push for LL to win it as a prank.

She was never going to, I bet she came last. Incredible athlete but has never really been in the general public consciousness (probably as a result of the lack of coverage of parasports).

It's an interesting event isn't it?

10 years ago it felt like a huge event, prime Sunday night TV, huge arena, all the stars at the venue, I watched it religiously as it was a brilliant wrap up of the year in sport. But 8pm on a Tuesday in a studio in Salford feels much lower key, maybe the format is on its last legs?

Anyway, Keeley Hodgkinson is a very worthy winner, I'd voted Joe Root but Keeley is awesome.

In some strange accent? When he went up for young spoty. It was distinctly boo'ing.

When he wen up for second place in the main spoty. It was louder backing music with luukke faded over the top.

There's a lot of 'dislike' comments for the current format on the BBC website - I think the guy sat with a dart board around his neck summed it up for me.

(Also def KH or Yee for the win and Chris Hoy was a class ... as always)

I'm glad you found the recorded version.

I agree no boo'ing on that. But the walk on music is also dubbed loudly over the crowd- similar to his second walk on. Like the guy in charge wasn't going to let it happen again.

There was distinct boo'ing on the live broadcast. Quite a few comments on it across x at the time

Its the same thing that happens to LUKE Donald at the golf

Go to a Bruce Springsteen concert and you'll hear loads of people shouting "Bruuuuuuuuuuce" in unison which also sounds like booing

Absolutely no one in that tiny studio of invited guests and fellow sportspeople was booing

And Lukas Jutkiewicz for Birminghsm City at St Andrews - we're going "Juuuuuuuuuuuke". Sounds like a boo - not a boo.

I got annoyed when they started having live artists for the "who's passed away this year" segment, then focussing on the artist rather than the recently-passed. I don't watch it any more for that reason, and yes I am that petty.

They don't do that anymore, they've gone back to the montage with a song played underneath

If you say so. But  unfortunately I've not heard the live broadcast again to verify. -btw.

I heard it as boo. And according to the internet so did others.

But not the elder population of stw . Might be a hearing frequency thing;)

As my parents used to say, whenever I messed up as a kid and tried to say it was my mates fault

"If the internet told you to jump off a cliff would you do it?"
