No it isn't, ever since cricket went to Sky the audience has been falling and participation falling. (Similar trend to the problems F1 face on another thread).
The shortlist isn't a public vote it is picked by "experts", to be fair there was no one on it who you could say why is he/she on it, but it is notable how many come from sports the BBC covers.

The BBC produces globally syndicated cricket coverage. During the ashes they reckon they have an audience of 4 million.

Presumably that is a commercial service they offer, but they don't show any cricket here as far as I can recall and indeed weren't interested in bidding for any of the domestic TV rights
