You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
What's the general consensus, which one suits the "older" gent with an intrest in alternative rock etc and older stuff like the clash etc - go on tear me apart it's been a crap day anyway
Will you be using a smart phone and if so, how old is it?
There is a current issue with Spotify, where in certain situations (mainly when playing a playlist on random) the next track won't play even though the player shows that it is playing.
I've been in contact with Spotify support about it and they seem to think that it is because my version of Android is 'outdated'....the thing is it worked until recently and they forced me to update. It was only after the update that this has become a problem and looking online there seem to be many users affected.
I downloaded Deezer to try as an alternative and so far it seems just as glitchy, if not worse.
I would download them and try them free for a month or so. You lose a small amount of functionality with the free version but nothing major and you have to put up with the odd advert - again, on Spotify these aren't very intrusive so it's no big deal.
I am at the stage of trying Google Play Music instead of both Spotify & Deezer.
I started this thread.....
about Spotify.....
I'm interested in this too.
Have used the free trial of deezer and was very impressed.
Even more impressed as I didn't actually realise it was a trial, and couldn't understand where they were making money from if there were no adverts?
Anyways...trial ran out today so looking to subscribe.
Does anyone know how much they cost per month?

It's not your phone, this is happening on my PC at work too. It seems to kill the audio driver after the recent update.
I have an S6 and Deezer runs fine, just trying Spotify no issues at the moment.
Did have an issue with Deezer not playing downloaded music with no Internet connection
What's the crack with Google play?
@ choppersquad , dezzer is a tenner a month, expensive i think but also very good ,it just works 😀
I'm on spotify premium and love it.
Led zeppelin, tull, kappa etc
Deezer looks like it's winning, £10 I quite expensive but that's only a a CD a month in old money
Might give google play a go
What's the crack with Google play?
I've been using that for about 2 years now, after initially using Spotify.
Spotify back then was OK but playlist/album sorting was a mess and there was no Chromecast option so switched to Google's offering. Not looked back since.
Sound quality is plenty good enough for my ears via headphones and sounds just as good Chromecasted/HDMIed to the AV amp & surround sound. Lots of choice anyway, but has the option to cloud-store 50,000 of your own mp3s which can then be streamed from any device you're logged in to, and includes Youtube Red which apparently lets you download youtube videos for watching offline. Never used that though.
Cheers flying ox
i took advantage of the free offers a good few months ago now and so had them both on premium for a while to see which one i ended up using the most. deezer won and i cancelled spotify.
interface? deezer for me, its black text on white which is kinder to my eyes. spotifys very 'black' and once ive been staring at white text on black for a while, it sort of gets ingrained in my eyes and when i look away i can still see it. thats just me tho. i looked for an option to change colours but never found one.
customer service? deezer again. as above ive had issues with both, mainly playing up over chromecast or whatever. deezer CS were always prompt to answer, very helpful, and extended my 99p trial for another 6 months for the hassle. spotify took ages to answer and when prompted i just got generic cut and paste answers directing me to Q&A links. eventually when i did get a personal answer it was sorry, nothing we can do, we have issues with chromecast, wait for an update to sort it.
content. cant split em, they both seem to have the same music available. dont know if that actually is the case but its how it seems to me.
cross platform. deezer works better for me when using with my phone, chromecast or chromebook. spotify freezes when it tries to open the chromecast app.
so its a resounding win for deezer for me 🙂
isnt google play different from these two anyway? dont you have to have the music yourself and upload it or somethings first?
I prefer the layout of the Deezer app (although all these music streaming apps are rubbish, IMO, seem to be setup to play individual tracks and playlists rather than albums. Bah humbug etc)
It's free for 6 months if you're on the Three network too.

horses for courses, this is what i prefer 🙂
i often look at albums and think nahhh cant be bothered listening to the whole thing, so i prefer adding every decent song i hear on 6 music to the bbc playlister and playing that in random order. got hundreds of good songs on there now and i never know whats coming next.

you cant do that retrospectively can you? im on three but i assume its to entice new customers?
From the small amount of fiddling about with Deezer that I have done, I think the interface is 'nicer' than Spotify's. Spotify isn't bad, I just prefer Deezer - although that could be just because I've used Spotify for a while now, whereas Deezer is 'fresh and new' to my eyes.
They are all about a tenner and they all seem to have free options so you can probably try them all out and get a good feel for them.
Some have a more expensive package that lets you stream in higher quality, but if you're listening source is a laptop or phone then they probably aren't worth the extra expense.
sadexpunk - Memberyou cant do that retrospectively can you? im on three but i assume its to entice new customers?
New customers only.....as with all these things.
Tried Deezer this morning, did a Spotify and froze after two songs....
deezer for me. very happy with the selection and interface
I have my entire music collection on Google play music, uploaded a few years ago. For everything else, I use Spotify free, which fills the gap. Spotify works fine on my ancient Nexus 4.
interested in google play music, as it seems to be a back up of your music collection. ive just clicked on it and seen ive got some of my stuff on there, no idea how it got there, witchcraft probably.
im happily ripping all my cds to a 1Tb portable HD. it wont use that much space up, but say i use half of it, will i be able to leave my chromebook +HD running overnight to upload everything to it? and then i assume i can just play whatever i want from my phone/chromebook/whatever whenever i like so long as theres a signal/internet access?
I'm surprised people don't find the spotify ads irritating.
ads?
I treat Spotify free like commercial radio, but I get to choose the music. Works for me.
After Spotify kept failing (playlists stopping every ten minutes) I went over to Google Play. Albums, your own lists, youtube... The only thing I miss is being able to play through my set lists with everything at the same volume. Otherwise, can't fault it.
PS: It's also good for finding new (to you) music. You can pick up on "Radio Stations" (other Google user's playlists) and for instance, I was looking for something from the Appalachian Mountain Music genre and just stumbled upon this stuff, which is quite beautiful.

yeah, heard them on 6 music 😀
Loved the subversion of "Amazing Grace" ("Stromboli"). Cheeky little scamps.
Prefer Deezer to Spotify, much prefer the layout & no problems with it.
