You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've got a Spotify premium account & the app has broadly worked fine - a bit rubbish sometimes but no big problems.
A few weeks ago it said I had to update in X days to keep using Spotify, so I did.
As soon as I had updated, playlists started failing to play properly. A song finishes and the next song fails to play even though the time elapsed in that song is increasing - almost as if it's not sending the output to the headphones. You have to hit pause & play and then it starts playing......I contacted Spotify support who were no help at all.
It seemed to settle down after a few days so I wondered if Spotify had managed to 'push' through a stealth update or something.
Today it asked me to update again and I thought that perhaps they had resolved the issue (looking online a lot of people were moaning about it) once & for all.
But nope - the problem is back worse than it was before & I've also lost the play/pause/skip buttons on the sleep screen.
Anyone else having problems?
I got the impression that Spotify wanted to blame the age of my phone, rather than anything to do with their software update.
If it carries on, I think I'll be giving Deezer or something else a whirl.
All fine here, spotify v4.8.0 on a Samsung GS4 running lollipop
Tried deleting it, clearing cache, rebooting and re-install?
Cheers. Forgot I posted this. Yeah, I think I'll delete and reinstall.
Just bloody annoying when updates make a program/service go from working to not working!
Well, tried the uninstall & re-install latest version, but the problem remains.
Just e-mailed Spotify Support & they have basically said it's most likely because I'm using an out of date version of Android.
What they mean is that their new software doesn't support older versions of Android properly, but anyway....
They have sent me a test log-in to try and see if the problem persists, so can't really fault them for trying to get to the bottom of it.
But, if it does come down to a 3 year old phone not working with their latest version of software I'll be giving another streaming service my money.....
I've had the same problem on android, be interesting to see how you get on. My phone is coming up for an upgrade soon.
Whole albums are fine so long as you avoid using the shuffle play mode
All fine here too.
Latest version of Spotify on an S4 mini running CM11.

Interesting about the shuffle mode, as I predominantly look for a playlist and then stick it on random....
Well, I've logged into the test account and someone else who has a device called Ozzy is currently using it.
I've done the 'listen here' swap to my device & it's been taken back again, so they've clearly not thought this through at Spotify HQ.

Well, I've been trying to use the test account they gave me but it's pointless because every man and his dog seems to have it & random people keep logging on and using spotify connect to transfer control to their device.
The latest person is listening to a Spanish translation of Bryan Adam's Everything I do (I do it for you) - so it would appear that there really is something for everyone out there.
Problem is still there & I've given up with the test account. Had another reply from Spotify implying that it's my old version of the Android OS.
It might well be related to your OS revision, but that completely dodges the fact that it's the same revision as when it was working fine a few weeks back. And it's not like you can reinstall the old version of the app if it's a mandatory update. That's pretty crossmaking.
What version of Android is it, out of interest?

Yep, annoying that they force update & it borks it.
It's 4.3 Jelly Bean, I think.
They keep telling me to update to the latest version of Android & I keep telling them that I am on the latest version for my device.
The latest gem from them suggests updating to 4.8.0 but as far as I can tell there is no 4.8.0 so I am not sure if they are not very good at their job, or just taking the piss now.
Cougar - ModeratorYou've found this I assume?
Yeah, thanks I found that and there are plenty of people out there who have recently started having this issue. I have mentioned that it seems to be quite a common problem & they haven't responded to that - just ignore the comment completely.
My last e-mail basically asked them to point me in the direction of a software update for my device that will work as I don't think there is a newer version that what I have & I've basically said that if they genuinely believe it's an incompatibility issue between their latest updates & my version of Android that I'll be looking for another streaming service; there's plenty to choose from.
Just had yet another update and it's still crap, time to try another service too.
Just trying an old version off here - https://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Android/No-sound-after-playing-one-song-and-stops-playlist/td-p/1280483/page/7
They've just told me I should be using Android 4.9....
jimster01 - cheers for that.
I tried Deezer as 3 mobile currently has a 6 month premium for free offer.
I tried before signing up to that though, and to be honest it's even worse than Spotify; songs just randomly stop and won't play any further, the app crashes, songs just skip to the next song midway through the current one.....
I'm currently persevering with Spotify, but tending only to listen to albums, rather than random playlists as that doesn't seem to cause the problem.
Gave up with Spotify support after the repeated requests to delete app & install latest version, update Android to a version that I can't upgrade to, delete cache, turn off any 'eco' mode running....
Next stop will be Google Play Music I think....
The old app seems to work ok, just a pisser that Spotify don't acknowledge they've screwed up.

I'm trying Deezer out on the same offer, not impressed with the interface, also according to the settings the Subscription expires 4th August on the app, but on the text 24th September....
You get these features on Android too? (just getting one in for the Fanboyz).
The above problems have been ongoing for the past few months for me.
Almost exactly the same solutions from Spotify's utterly hopeless support service. After pointing out my disappointment and the fact that I am no longer receiving the service I pay for they have refunded each months premium subscription. Must remember to contact them again for my next refund :/ even that is a massive PITA
Jimster01 - Which older version did you download?
I really don't want to go through the uninstall/install yet again as it takes hours to D/L all my music but will try one more time if you reckon it's working.
I'd like to move to Google Play Music. seems a much bigger library, unlimited offline storage and cheaper service for multiple users in the household but it doesn't seem to support storing tracks on SD with Android 4.3. 😐
Jimster01 - Which older version did you download?
Think it was 4.4.0.968, been fine all morning. Just remember to allow installation of apps from unknown sources.
Thanks.
