See amended thread title, having won some stuff does not qualify.

Nor am I after a debate on what is a sport and what isn't.

Driving stuff in general. So often, if it's not a British driver it'll be a British design or a British manufactured car.

Not quite sure what your domination requirement is, but we must have come close in track cycling recently. Nowhere near in road cycling - OK so the last two winners of the TdF might have been British, but there's so much more to road cycling than that.

tiddlywinks?

Me neither - its just a discussion idea.

Watching the snooker earlier, it seems like 75% of the pros are from the UK. Got me wondering.

I strongly suspect the Chinese will be in this position in a very few years. By all accounts it's becoming huge over there and when they hothouse.their kids, they do it properly!

rUK better hope that Scotland doesn't go Indy if they want to keep the curling and bowls silverware. That might be the only downside, though.

I wouldn't say that the UK dominates in DH, Male world champ, world cup champ etc are from elsewhere, France has better juniors and probably more depth of talent. Even in the women. there is no one after Rachel Atherton.

I cant think of many sports where any nation truly dominates.

Road cycling? A couple of TdF wins and Cav is great, but it's not like the pro peloton is full of Brits, nor are British riders winning spring classics or other grand tours.

Track cycling and curling are the only two that come to mind straight away and even curling we don't dominate, but the Scots men and women are always top 4.
