My wife has an old friend down south. Every couple of years she drags me down there to stay with them. The husband seems to look down on us to the extent that we're hesitant to turn the telly on in case he disapproves of what we want to watch.
When we go down there, we tend to eat out a lot. It's fine for them - they're quite well off - but it's more of a struggle for us but we don't want to say anything as it'll make the husband look down on us even more. The thing is, we don't drink, and we don't have starters, but the hosts expect us all to split the bill evenly. This means we end up paying for their food and their drinking. We've stood our ground but the husband made it clear he thought we were being petty.
I wish he'd just sod off out on his bike or something.
