SWMBO fancies and shiny glass splashback for our forthcoming kitchen and just a quick question before we get carried away.... these are going to be rather expensive aren't they?

A custom glass cutout, I can't see being less than £1000 really, given that an off-the-shelf rectangle of glass splashback from a High St. supplier is upwards of £100.

(For reference, we need about 2m x 500mm behind the hob and another 4m, which could be just an upstand but could also be full height with cutouts for 2 x windows)

Sounds about right, sadly.

Ours cost £450 but took 3 attempts at getting the cut out in the right place 🤠🐎

I suspect it going to be much more economic to do an rectangular panel behind the hob (so 800 x 500 ish) and upstand all the rest of the way.

We're also looking in to other materials, like some coloured Aluminium resin stuff (not exactly sure what it is...), if anyone has experience with that.

I got this lot, spray painted in the RAL colour of my choice for £212 (was a few years back, but no that long) from https://glasssplashbacksuk.com/
[edit] html works in preview but not post. See below - 6 separate bits of glass cut as upstands, hardeneed and painted with a big bit behind the hob.

Pretty much what this looks like;

I had some done by a local company and there weren't as expensive as I expected. Its a big kitchen and i had everything under the worktops done and they only cost around £2500 templated and fitted including a table top. Certainly a lot cleaner more modern and less maintenance than tiles. I'm getting our main bathroom shower done next.

Our local glass suppliers quoted £200 for a coloured glass splashback 1000mm x 800mm (our choice of colour and cut to fit our exact measurements).

Have a look at Alusplash. You can buy it in Benchmarx.

We were going to get a fancy textured glass panel, but at over £2k we thought again...

We got a glass splash back for just behind the cooker, 800x700 I think, and a matching glass window sill which must be 1000+ by 60/70ish in a black sparkle finish for £280

Went to a place in Stockport called cheadle glass. We’d done the measurements and installed ourselves, it was really easy..

Thanks all, in typical STW fashion, you've been most helpful. A glass splash back may well be within affordability and there are good alternatives out there

We went for acrylic splashbacks from these guys:

www.splashacrylic.com

They do some suitable for behind hobs. The acrylic was really easy to cut myself to go around windows, plug sockets, etc. Really easy to fit too - just sticks to the wall using their supplied silicon.

I’m very proud of my splashbacks that are the reclaimed flooring fromHeathrow Terminal 2. It looks cool, it’s recycled and it’s a bit of history. Wasn’t too expensive either
