Anyone else?

For the second time in just over a month I've been laid low but an absolute snorter of a cold/virus. Don't normally suffer but headaches and shivers suggest it's more on the flu/covid end of the spectrum. took a test last time and was negative but took pretty much two weeks to shift. This was after a nice weekend of sun and good quality food so not like I'm living an unhealthy low vitamin lifestyle. Fed up of it now.

Last week. But it was so ridiculously mild, just sneezy runny nose plus tiredness and nothing else, that I suspect it might have been covid, which I thankfully seem to get less severe than a cold.

It was definitely a viral infection though, not the obvious hay fever alternative. I do always at the very first signs of a cold take large amounts of Vicks First Defence and double doses of echinacea and zinc so that might be the reason for it not becoming full-blown. And I have probably got quite strong immunity to covid from vaccinations and previous infections.

I've had it for the last 10 days. Started off as a normal cold, then 2 nights of either pissing the bed or sweating buckets. Cough, lung stuff, hot/cold etc. Hopefully on the tail end of it now but no energy still, and aching joints. Sucks.

Edit: deffo didn't piss the bed!

Had something similar a few weeks back. Felt more covid-y than the usual man flu. Still not feeling 100% yet.

5 days now - nothing seems to touch it. Tried all the pills in the medicine box. 🙁

Here I come, swanning into the room like a banker in a pin-strip double-breasted suit with a cocky grin on my face:

I've somehow managed to avoid getting ill since about February and that was more a gastritis type thing.

But, there's been a constant "bad cold" doing endless laps of my office. I genuinely don't remember when we last had a week when everyone was in all week, and for a team of about 10 that's pretty bad. It seems like illness and various pestilence is absolutely rife this year.

Wife was laid low all last week, had a big family do booked for the weekend* which had to be cancelled, turned out both of us tested +ve for COVID & I've been pretty crook all weekend & anyone we've been in touch with before my wife felt/got ill has had the same ? apparently there is a new strain of COVID doing the rounds. At least it was a nice weekend for social distancing in the garden....

There does seem a lot of Covid around, I had it for the first time a couple of weeks ago (and still not 100% now, although negative). I think I'll go for the private booster vaccine option via Boots to hopefully cover me over the winter, it's £100 though 🙁

Yes, there's an unpleasant COVID strain doing the rounds. I had it week before last and it knocked me sideways for a few days. Still chesty now, but improving.

We both felt we were coming down with something last week, just after our rare train trip (to Warminster, so only ~50mins, for our CP hol), where we had a bloke near our seating who was sneezing a bit. Thankfully, it hasn't affected us much, so given we both have had long covid for almost 2/4 years I presume it wasn't that.

Seems like there is concern about the XEC variant this autumn and winter, I presume my better half will be offered a vaccine jab through her NHS role like previous years, I might think about paying for a jab.

Thought mine was raging Man-Flu but it turned out to be Covid. I am lucky enough that i never feel unwell for more than a few days but that virus lasted a bit.

Now tested positive with symptoms v similar to before when not indicated as positive. I don’t think the boosters rolling out this autumn have been optimised for xec variant hence the concerns.

I don't recommend installing fire rated plasterboard on a 3.6m high ceiling whilst suffering from the effects of this latest strain!

Feeling better today, general aches and pains and a cough. My kidneys aren't aching as much either, which is nice.

Had the same for a week, which coincided with a week booked off as holiday.
Raging sore throat for 48hrs , then massive headache, sneezing and rivers of snot. Stupid unproductive cough.
My joints all ached , everything I've injured hurt , my kidneys hurt.
Sleeping for 12hrs a night waking up tired then having a sleep mid afternoon.
Couldn't really focus on anything that required concentration, so watched crap telly, was a great week off.

My mate has just come down with something and we shared a room two nights, and camped for 3. Me and another mate are OK so far. Students are back, so it's high dose vitamins for a while for me.

I have 4 friends locally and a couple further afield who have all managed to catch Covid over the last couple of weeks.

I'm assuming that I'll get both Covid and Flu boosters later this year again.

My wife can trump all the man flu stuff. ATM she's in hospital being treated for Legionnaire's Disease.

We suspect a dodgy a/c unit on holiday recently. It was making creaking/cracking noises, which when Googled, suggested ice forming on the pipes, due to not being cleaned properly.

Hopefully she'll be out soon, as the meds seem to be working

No signs of abating for me. Even took a Covid test yesterday but it was negative.

I have been hoofed into the spare room though! 🙂

Cough arrived on Monday after the ferry back from Italy/France hols on the weekend. Tested yesterday and yep - positive. Properly blurgh today…

It being perfect, dry, sunny South Downs evening ride weather isn’t helping the mood

Though reckon it’s small fry compared to MrsAndy5390, that does not sound fun at all :-/

@the-muffin-man I'd read that a lot of the covid tests don't detect the new strain. Not sure if it's fact or not, but it could be why it's not showing.

I'm down with something since a week ago. Sneezing, lost my voice, nose running with lot of clear stuff. Starts a few minutes after I get up, sneezing is done my lunchtime, and the snot is stopped by late afternoon. Not testing covid positive on lateral flow.

After nearly 5 years of successful dodging, I've just tested positive for the first time <sad face emoji>. Really quite unpleasant.

Having a return of some acid reflux recently, making me wake up with the back of my throat not feeling quite right, doesn't help when wondering if I've caught covid again. As each time I've knowingly had covid, including the time that developed into ongoing long covid two years ago, I barely had a single cough each time.

I lost most of July with some kind of virus. I've never coughed so much in my life. Still have the odd coughing fit now as the back of my throat seems more sensitive now. I had antibiotics as it seemed to have got on my chest too. Lost my voice for week.

Seems to be a lot of colds etc. around so I'm hoping nothing comes my way 🙁

I had been feeling a bit off for a couple of weeks, it all came to ahead a week ago on Sunday.

Out for a run felt like absolute poop back home, banging sore head that eased with some painkillers. Woke up early hours of Monday absolutely freezing and shivering uncontrollably. Monday was a day of lying in bed sleeping and sweating a lot. Pretty much back to normal on Tuesday.

No associated cough or snot, tested -ve for covid. It was not pleasant!

I'm on my 3rd bout of something covid/flu'y just in september.  First one really wiped me out, felt shattered constantly for a couple of weeks.  second one not quite as bad, few days but aches and headaches.  actually felt great out on the bike yesterday morning then afternoon was starting to feel the throat tickle, sneezes and joint aches.  early bed tonight shivering and feeling rough.

grrr.

this has reminded me of an interesting question.  I quite often have a really great feeling fast bike ride the day before then coming down with a lurg.  is that something like the lurg already setting in and the body bracing for the fight against it, a net benefit of which is increased sports performance.... before then tanking the next day?
