[Closed] Speaker failure problem (again)

Hello,

About a year ago one of my speakers died. It suddenly went pop, followed by a constant low hum, and the woofer cone got sucked in and didn't relax until I turned the speaker off.

I asked around, (including on here) and it was explained that it was caused by something going wrong with the amp which was causing DC power to be sent to the cone.

Anyway, it was all a bit technical for me so they got shoved in a cupboard awaiting professional repair. Fast forward to now, and I've got some new speakers and exactly the same thing just happened to one of these! 😥 Well, not exactly the same; this time the cone was pushed out instead of sucked in. And also, thankfully the speaker is still alive after killing the amp for a while.

So anyway, what I want to know is; can a problem with the electrics in the house cause these things to happen? If both sets of speakers were powered by the same amp I'd suspect a faulty amp of course, but the first set of speakers were active, and the new ones are powered by an amp. Or just coincidence?

I would say that the source amp is the problem - the pre-amp stage .

Thanks,

I guess it just seems odd that I'd get the same problem on two sets of speakers and amps a little under a year apart. Thought it could be due to shoddy electrics in my latest flat, or power surges or something. Must just be coincidence.

Could it be a case of impedance mis-match ?
