I need some slimline-ish speaker cable..
Need about 12m (its just for my rear speakers for my surround sound)
Im semi-audiophile with nice AV yamaha amp, Dali floor standing speakers and a BK XXLS400 sub.
Whats the STW onions on cheapish quality stuff that will bring my sounds alive..

A Yamaha surround-sound. And you think changing the CABLE is going to make it "come alive"? 😆
Someone get Brant a bottle of wine and point him at this thread
Do they make 650B speaker cable now?
Van Damme blue here

Cheap, decent you don't need more, unless you believe the hype. They do thinner cheaper versions and also a clear cable if the blue is too lairy.
J
The amps a yamaha rv-x 3067.. so not exactly a budget amp..
Ive just moved my speakers and lounge around so the present wiring doesnt reach the speakers.
The sounds alive may have been tongue in cheek

Big bucks is not an indication of quality.
You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

If he put a Naim sticker on it would it help Woppit........? 🙄
I'd ignore woppit on this subject if I were you OP.
I'm sure its good enough to warrant more than a budget cable even if it isn't a Naim.
Interestingly Naim have an external DAC these days, Julian was against those things.
No, but NAIM don't do "surround sound", despite being the best music hifi on the planet. Putting a NAIM label on a Yamaha amp will not make it perform better.
Extraordinary suggestion. Are you sane?
Whatever we want to call my donkeys ass of an amp.. it need some wires

No, NAIM make the music hifi you like the most.

Van Damme. Cheap, and good enough for the studios that record your music.

Sez you. 😆

Just as sane as your fervent worship at the alter of Naim! 😉
Sez you.
Yes, I do. There is no objective "best".
Is that objective? (Senses that this isn't getting any nearer a solution to c9's dilemma...). 😉
On a sane note - I like QED speaker cables as they have very tough covering that survives pinching or general domestic attacks.
Good range and some thin ones that you can hide more easily .
I just bought twincore on a reel for my second system. It probably came from Maplin. The sort of thing you might find on a desklamp.
Sounds fine to me.
On the main system I basically use the same thing but thicker, CableTalk 3 multi strand.
I would, however thoroughly tin the ends with lead solder to prevent oxidation.
Well that escalated quickly!
I'd go for QED. I'm using Linn K-something or other cables and swapped them out for some fairly cheap QED cable and couldn't hear any difference.
Of course plenty would argue that the amp makes bugger-all difference to the sound quality as well...;)
cloudnine, you're going to regret starting this thread now the audio snobs / crusties have picked up on it.
I'd suggest just never revisiting this thread again and hope it dies after a day or so after much muttering and "double blind testing" etc etc.

Who?
Just use bell wire. It's highly unlikely that you'll notice anything amiss.
What do Yamaha recommend?
I've used the wire out of old ethernet cables before. Very slim, and cheap. And I didn't die.

Me.
**** - link broken - hang on a tick!!!
And here's plenty more food for thought:

Is it good time to mention how good my Chinese made Takstar headphones are..
Not sure if regular twin core will fit where it needs to run.
another recommendation for that Van Damme blue cable, sounds as 'good', or no different, as any other decent cable I have, and the price is good.
Only problem might be the color if it is visible.
I would stick with the 2.5mm, my solid state amps have shown a dislike to 4mm versions of stranded cables with certain speakers/crossover loads.
It might also be worth trying that flatline Nordost stuff if you can get some cheap - that does add some 'bite' to the sound, although whether than is a good thing or not depends on your system.
Anyway, to return to c9's query, I notice that you say that:
Need about 12m (its just for my rear speakers for my surround sound)
I assume from this that you're happy with the sound quality from the front speakers and that the cable is different from the type you're using for the back speakers? Why not just use the same cable all round?
I'd ignore woppit on this subject if I were you OP.
Please dont at some point he will get upset and flounce
TBH it is hard to tell if he trolls on this subject or believes the gibberish he spouts...it looks like he has faith though 😉
