Does anyone know much about these? Pretty sure I saw the rocket depositing the satellites early Sunday morning (5/5.30) but im surprised I could see it from the UK. Pretty amazing sight! Not sure what else it could have been!

Yes there are several threads on here. Even links to the Starlink predictor sites.
And it’s mind blowing ing the first time you see them.

You don't see the deploy, you see them when the sun hits them, so it looks like they turn on.

Same with ISS. Loads of them out there now. Bit of a sore subjet

What I saw was a bright white streak across the sky which looked like it was depositing a trail of stars (the satellites I guess) in its wake.

Judging by the "streak", it sounds more like debris from something, or a meteor breaking up as it hit the atmosphere.

That or an alien invasion.

Didn't think it was possible to see the deployment with the naked eye. When you see satellites its sun light reflecting off their solar panels or large antennas, these would not be unfurled when the satellite is being deployed so would have thought there was little surface area to reflect the sunlight.

The satellites are usually visible for anything from 30secs to 6mins depending on the angle of sun and you etc.. If the wake the object left behind fizzed away within a few seconds then it's likely the object you saw was a shooting star ie meteor or old satellite burning up on entry to the Earth's atmosphere.

I find it mad that they are pretty much chucking these things up there on a monthly basis and have been for yonks.

I’ve actually preordered starlink with delivery some time in a few months 🙂

Interesting..... Mind saying why?
Do you not have any phone/3g/4g coverage?

Looks like the next launch is on the 21st with one more launch after that. The lady doing the commentary was saying how it's aimed at people with either no or very poor internet.

Looking at it you will have to pay about £500 for the dish and router then about £85 pound a month for about 300mb download speed. To me, that seems expensive if you can already get half decent internet.

I’m in rural Spain (well 15 mins from a Maccy D with water and mains so actually well not that rural) but unlikely to have fibre put in.

I’m currently on a microwave dish with a 30mb for about £34ish and can go upto 100mb for £45 but that’s it.

The performance is excellent thou but upload isn’t that great.(and 2 year contract)

I expect 5G will eventually rock up but currently unless I missed it there’s no way to get a faster link.

I use it for work and leisure, I’m one of those new fangled digital nomads 🙂
