Had a nice day out at the Southport Air Show yesterday. Stuck in traffic for the first few aircraft but did get to see them doing their stuff from a bit further out.

Here are some photos that I did manage to get:

Great pics.
I went several years ago and took my son. We parked outside the town and cycled in which worked really well and avoided the worst of the traffic.
Some of the tings they were doing in helicopters and stunt planes seemed to defy the laws of physics!

Reds and the eurofighter stopped over at Blackpool airport as usual so we went down to watch them take off. More and more people seem to do that each time we go. Think the eurofighter left earlier today, heard some suspicious rumbling earlier.

Blackpool airshow in a couple of weeks I think. In previous years, there's been reports of 100,000 people on the prom. It's great for the town, but absolutely mental when everyone tried to leave at the same time!!

Slight detour: on Saturday I was riding in West Yorkshire and a plane went overhead. It had a very distinctive burble like a Spitfire but I couldn't get a good view as it was directly overhead, it was incredibly sunny and there were cars and vans around me.

I know where I was and the rough time, how do I find out what it was?

If it was a spitfire or the like, it'll be the BBMF, so you might be able to tie in where you were/it was with their transit times. Google BBMF transit times and see if you can track them down.

There was also a P51D Mustang at the Southport show, which having the same engine or a license built version of it, would also sound similar. Or so you’d think…
I saw the Mustang but I didn’t think it sounded anything like a spitfire

There were also a pair of Polish owned spitfires that don’t come under BBMF

thanks, it was on it's own, quite low and heading towards Manchester

I'll see what I can find.

Possibly the P51 then, none of the spots were flying solo

Last time I was at Southport was the airshow where the Strikemaster misjudged a dive and pulled out really rather low before zooming up to height and aborting the display.

It was the same pilot who later crashed the Hawker Hunter at Shoreham...

They did do a good Mustang display using pyrotechnics along the beach to simulate a strafing run.

Nice pics @johndrummer!

That's the one we saw land back at Blackpool. Just as we were arriving at the sand dunes at the foot of the runway, someone pointed "what's that?" We could see it coming low straight up the length of the runway right towards us, couple of hundred feet up at most then a last minute steep bank right above our heads before looping back to land. The Reds took off a few minutes later.

I know I could Google this, but any reason for there being only 7? We thought it might be because of low cloud making the synchro pair a bit risky? Did they do the full display?

They're doing most of the season with only 7. Pilots needed elsewhere for operational reasons.

This one.

I thought it was because two of them were sent home in disgrace for an incident in Turkey. Them's the rumours anyway.

Rhyl Airshow at end of August - we cycle down from our caravan - saves loads of parking issues, then we usually pass the blokes on their retro BMX's as they head back.
