I know this is pretty niche but can anyone help?

Can any sound engineers or audio specialists offer any advice to a complete numpty?

Is there software available that does not cost thousands and is relatively simple to use that can isolate sound sources from a cluttered sound track?

Looking aat trying to isolate a conversation from a recording which has a lot of background noise.

We have used "Soundsoap Bias" before but it doesn't seem to up to the task on this occasion.

Any suggestions?

Try audacity (free) and use the noise reduction filter trained on a big bit where no one is talking.

If that doesn't work, you might be able to use band pass filter manually to isolate it, is a pain to do though.

If it's because you want to hear what it says, then noise reduction might help, but is often no use. If you want to use it in a recording and make it sound less rubbish, then it is often good.

Try putting it into something like reaper and playing with an eq to see if you can remove the interfering background frequencies. May not work though and will probably take a lot of trial and error to find the frequencies you want to get rid of... then of course they may be the same or similar to the ones you're trying to preserve!
