We have a sony bravia telly, humax PVR & want a sound bar to improve the sound.
There is a sony sound bar on offer at the moment a CT60BT for about £120, but the power is quite low
Just been to look at a Samsung one that is currently £150, the HW-F450, sounds awesome, with loads more ooompf.
So the question, Am I daft mixing manufacturers.
The biggest issue is volume control, will have to use the samsung remote for the bar's volume or will the humax/tv volume control work.
both the humax & tv have optical o/p.

I have a Sony Bravia tv, with a Humax PVR plus a Panasonic soundbar (SU-HTB20)and it all works together okay. I have to wait for the picture to appear before turning on the soundbar as otherwise it does not seem to auto-detect, but apart from that it is fine.
I have the T.V. volume at 0, and then control the tv channels and soundbar volume via the Humax remote.
Hope that helps
Edit: And that is using a digital optical cable as my tv is a few years old and does not have the newer HDMI port that can handle this (or something)
excellent. that is just wanted I wanted to know.
Do you have the fibre optic connected to the TV or the humax ?
apparently I have just been told that we have to upgrade the dishwasher first !!!!
I play my Sony telly through my HiFi amp and use the speaker offset in the tellys setup menu to move the sound around the TV works a treat.
I bought a Logitech Harmony universal remote thing to control my TV, sound bar, Xbox and BluRay player.
I dunno about using it with different TVs but I've got that soundbar coupled to a Samsung tv and its great. Everyone in the house loves it despite being sceptical when I bought it. Also has bluetooth so you can steam music from your smart phone and use it as a stereo.
