Hello,
I am suffering with a sore achilles from running or not running enough or a mix of them both! My friend is a sports massager and has been helping me with strecthing and stuff like that and has suggested icing it a lot after excersie. Now my question is does anyone know of something like a reusable cold compress built into an ankle support which I can put on it after excerise?
Google has not been too helpful, well thats not true but everything i saw was very expensive! Does anyone make (for example) a neoprene support which ice packs built into it which i can freeze and put on my foot??
Any help would be much appreciated! I have my first triathlon in 3 weeks and currently cannot run!

Tendon soreness is an overuse injury so you've got to stop overusing it. Rub on Ibuprofen gel and rest. It will go away by itself if you stop doing what has caused the injury.
Are your shoes too tight?
Why are you running around when God gave us bicycles?
thats a very well made point!
I have been resting it for a week now and it is getting better. I think it was a combination of my stupid flat feet, worn out trainers and running which caused it to be honest. I have new trainers ready to go so once its stopped hurting I can get on with it. Also Amazon has at last provided me with a range of cold compresses. I have little desire to do this triathlon but even less desire to pull out unless I have to!
So you've got a ready-made excuse! Every athlete understands tendonitis and the need to recover from injury. Make a big fuss, shed some crocodile tears and manfully admit that you have been told by your GP not to do it.
But do get some Ibuprofen gel; I do believe it works for inflammation that's near the surface. If it's not the active ingredient, the gentle massage releases endorphins, which are beneficial.
It's better to be on the cautious side with your Achilles, better to rest up and/or miss an event than end up with a rupture, which is disastrous.
Thanks for all the advice! I have the Dyfi Enduro on Sunday (I can cycle no probs) and I will decide the next day or so whether to go ahead or not or even change to the shorter sprint triathlon. I will err on the side of caution though.
