Question for the STW home cinema/home network buffs.

I've just bought a bravia tv and I've connected it to my router and can now see photos and play audio on the tv from the computer, great. I'm trying to play video and the tv can see the my video folder on the tv and the sub folders but not any actual video files. I'm guessing this is a file format issue. the tv manual says video files need to be either AVCHD, HDV or MPEG2-PS format. I've tried a couple of video file converters but I'm still having no luck.
What I'd like to be able to do is download video files from places like i-player, c4OD, itv net player etc, then convert to appropriate format as necessary and watch on the tv....just seem to be failing at the convert stage I think. Anybody got a suggestion?

learning a bit more I think it's a file format and media player issue. I'm running xp and windows media player 11 and here http://support.sony-europe.com/tv/tutorials/dlna/dlna_comp/dlna_comp.aspx?site=odw_en_GB&m=KDL-46V5500 shows not many file formats that supports on the bravia. version 12 looks best but needs windows 7? I've downloaded a trial version of twonkymedia - and the tv sees twonky and lists it, but still no actual files - I guess I've still not got the files in the right format for twonky either...there seem to be so many flavours of mpeg2, and the file converter I've tried doesn't seem to allow me to select a 'flavour' as far as I can see. So still after help/suggestions if anyone can.
