We’ve got a pair of Play 1 in the kitchen that keep having issues. They will randomly unpair themselves and one switches off. They will disappear from the app whilst playing and you then can’t control them. You can press the button on them to stop, it may take a minute or so to do so.
the Play 3 in the bedroom 2 floors up, has similar dropout issues and won’t appear in the app.
The beam with one sl surrounds in the living room are fine, but they are in the same room as the router and obviously newer models.
We’ve recently updated our broadband and have a new router so it appears unrelated to a router issue.
any ideas? Or are they just old models and dying?
Do the problems persist if you set your router to broadcast 2.4ghz and 5ghz ssids separately and set your Sonos devices to connect to one?
I gave up on our pair of Play 1's and plugged them both into a Mesh with a cable. The bloody kitchen one still kept dropping out though.
This week I was stuck at home waiting for a repair man and decided to try and sort it out. After some swapping things about it became clear that it wasn't the speaker so I think it was a dodgy cable.
I also turned off the router and the Mesh's afterwards and started everything again as the Sonos wouldn't update. Fingers crossed this time but so far so good.
Will check the 2.4/5ghz settings. I think Sonos only uses 2.4???? I would love Mesh but it’s probably overkill for the size of the house
Did you keep your old Wireless Ssid for the new router and BB?
I had issues a few years back and after sending diagnostics back and forth with Sonos support (who were actually quite good tbh) they could see my devices disconnecting and reconnecting frequently and they immediately asked if had new kit but kept the old ssid on the wireless. I factory reset the lot, set them up again and it’s been faultless ever since.
i don’t know how it knows or cares but it seems to be a possible cause of connectivity issues.
OP, have you tried putting all the speakers in the same room as the router?
Check the hidden Sonos diagnostics webpages mentioned in the article below. In particular the connection matrix is especially helpful in identifying problematic connections. As per simon_g’s post I have found wiring a single speaker to your router to act as a bridge between the Wi-Fi and Sonos mesh can help.

Sounds similar to problems I had a few years ago. Sonos basically said that the memory boards on my "old" speakers had become corrupted over time and were no longer good enough to run the latest version of their software.
No repair options, no solutions. Only available route was to trade them in for new speakers. I was fuming.
Are you not talking about when a few old Sonos models became unsupported?
The reason was because they didn't have enough memory to run the software.
They were still useable (and still are) but not on a network with unaffected models.

I went tomorrow use my sonos ones last week, first time in a few months; similar problems. Constantly losing connection with the app on phone or iPad, like every five minutes. Seems to be a new problem.
These are the only speakers on a network which hasn’t changed for ages. I don’t want to have to troubleshoot my Wi-Fi network channels just to play some music.
I will never buy another sonos product; flakey, unreliable and poor value for money.

We've got similar with a pair of Sonos One speakers in the house.
Horrendously flakey and unreliable connection recently and for some odd reason they'll connect with my iPhone but not my wife's despite being the same model with the same software and having all the settings the same.
Just all sounds horribly familiar.
I guess you are using the S1 app with a play 3?
I have Sonos all over the house and in my office I have a Connect Amp with a pair of speakers attached. My office has very flaky wifi and the amp would sometimes drop out, so the other day I connected it to a bridged network connection on my hardwired PC.
Streaming issue solved, or so I thought. I looked at the app and the amp and the Beam/surrounds in the next door room and the Play 3 in my bedroom above (both of which have good wifi) had disappeared.
I spent ages trying to figure out what had happened and then realised that the amp was creating its own network through the PC and the Beam/Surrounds had joined it automatically.
Once I disconnected the amp from the PC I could go back and change the other speakers back to the house wifi and everything is good again.
Presume you’re talking about using the old S1 app? I assume this should still work even though the hardware is old. I find it strange people getting annoyed by this as any network based device is going to end up outdated eventually.
Anyway I’d definitely get rid of the system on the App, then factory reset all of your Sonos speakers (there’s info on how to do this easily available) and then try setting it up as a new system. I’d assume it’s something to do with WiFi settings having changed.
Once set up, you can double check the settings for each speaker through the app.
I personally prefer having at least one device wired into the router but strictly speaking this should not really necessary.
Over the years the only real issues I’ve had have always ended up being related to the network setup rather than an issue with the speaker itself.
Have a phantom pair of paired original Sonos1's in the lounge. One is plugged into the router. Neither appear on my apps. They are playing Radio 3 in Stereo and can be switched on and off, with volume control, from the buttons. I think it's age and support or otherwise from Sonos. My single Sonos1 in the bedroom is fine by contrast!
I replaced the paired Play3's in the dining room with a new Amp and decent speakers, as they too were constantly going AWOL. This is all on the S2 App. I have a Gen1 Play5 on S1 too.

Is your wired network the same as your WiFi network?
That could put them out of sight of your app.
Is your wired network the same as your WiFi network?
It is indeed. All on the house WiFi from the router.
I have six old Play 1’s, a Playbar, an IKEA sonos thing in my office and I’ve just added a sub mini. It’s all on the S2 app.
Its all running perfectly and has been for some time. Very occasionally the IKEA thing will drop out and last time I had a power cut it took a week or so for the whole system to sort itself out!
First thing I’d do is make sure all firmware etc is updated
Another point to note but not relevant to this thread is that whilst the IKEA ones are actually made by Sonos they don’t sound as good!
