howsyourdad1 » Sax, followed by fake electronic sax, is the sh*ttest musical instrument
Don't talk shite,
Galaxy 2 Galaxy - Hi-Tech Jazz
808 State - Pacific State
As is often the case in techno, synths are used in the studio, and live on stage.

In which case it's synth, not sax and doesn't belong in this thread. Fine if you like synth, but it's not the same at all. Are you really suggesting that sounds anything like proper sax?
Sounds like a sax to me on the 808 State track.
This thread has surprised me, how many bands using sax I really like!
I'm sure there are some Beck songs, not sure which though. Was a big fan of the Psychedelic Furs first album, which had sax on every song...

Sax Solo
Meanwhile, another unique element adding to the atmosphere of 'Pacific State' is the soprano saxophone that serves as a counterpoint to said bass line
Howard Walmsley, who played the sax in Biting Tongues, had left his soprano from a session the night before, and so I picked it up and just had a go. I'd played the clarinet and was a bit of a have?a?go saxophone player, but I was not a real saxophone player. Still, I could crank out a melody, and I think my limited ability made it what it was.
Well aracer turns out 'bit that sounds like a saxophone...is actually a saxophone.
What a shocker, I don't know what you thought it sounded like, a banjo?

er, no - the bit that sounds like a clarinet is actually a saxaphone (my ears aren't quite well enough tuned to spot the difference). I had thought it strange that they had a real clarinet player to go with the synth sax - there's quite a distinct difference.
now now, no bickering on a nice music thread!
Found a Beck
I must get Crime of the Century by Supertramp on i'm sure has to be sax on it
I know that jazz is not overly popular on here, but no mention of the saxophone can exclude:
Charlie Parker, John Coltrane or Sonny Rollins.
Moving on then I don't think we've done this one
Down the road album by Van Morrison Hey Mr Dj
I was holding off on the Sun Ra, but if you're gonna post cheryl videos...
fin25 - great choice!

I hate the saxophone but always used to give Dark Side the benefit of the doubt.
However imagine all the saxophone bits replaced with Gilmour's guitars.
*Imagines*...
...Nah.
If a saxophone was good enough for Rachmaninov to use, and very effectively, then it’s good enough for a pop band.
I’m struggling to think of anything I have with sax that hasn’t already been suggested; I’ll have to give it some more thought.
Well if you like Cheryl, there's more 😈
and there's more
Mats Gustafsson, probably the worlds greatest living saxophonist.
Souljazz Orchestra!!!
15 years,8 albums,3 saxes on every track-take your pick!
Saw them live on Tuesday,no bass, no guitar, just 3 saxes, keyboard and drums and they rock, they funk, they boogie- amazing.
I saw 808 State DJ and play live at The Osbourne several times before the record was released back in 1988/9 and it looked and sounded like a saxaphone to me.
+1 for any Fela track and let's not forget the Cameroonian sax legend Manu Dibango
and there's more - Bjork already posted on page 2.
For all the MC Hammer fans
I knew there'd be a Prince song or 2
Another of my old punk singles had sax all over it!
Clearly the best name of all the saxophone players - Yehudi Storageheater
and how is this not on here yet?
Quick!, change to a different Madness track and you'll get away with it (suggests Night Boat to Cairo) 😉
I think Sade's been mentioned, but I can't see this:
One step beyond by Prince Buster , so many good bits of sax mentioned just please no more spandex balley
The first bar of that Spandau Ballet solo (not sure if it's the one posted, but it's the one in my head!) is the cheesiest thing ever 😡
Cheesy 80s, I give you Haircut 100, Fantastic Day, inter alia
Saw this woman live a few years back. Quite odd it was.
This needs a sax solo to be almost perfect:
Just remembered this old John Peel fave with some quality skwarking
Sorry! been browsing my cds and found more
One step beyond by Prince Buster
This was a big hit at my sister's 21st party - in 1970.

Keys in studio by a fresh Thomas Dolby
Sax by Junior Walker

Legendary!
Hamish got there first Lol
Ah well the man's got great taste!
Included for sax completeness.
An understated piece of sax in this great track from an even greater album,an homage to the legendary Charlie Parker, probably the most innovative sax player ever or so some jazz aficionados will tell you(forward to 2.29 for those with a short attention span).
Sounds like a trumpet to me
Sounds like a trumpet to me
and what's wrong with that? Sax comes in about a minute later, though there's not much of it.
