Pretty tight bass here
Any tracks from Future Islands.
Just gonna leave this here...
What no Psycho Killer?
I’m reading ‘Perfecting Sound Forever’ and in the section on production and producers, apparently the producer of Talking Heads ‘77’ wasn’t at all happy with the way Tina Weymouth played bass, so without telling the band he got outside players in, had them play the bass lines on four tracks, and because of the limited number of tracks available on the master tape, and the fact there was only one available for David Byrne to do his vocal on, mixed the new bass tracks in, deleting Tina’s bass, leaving the one empty track for the vocals. Didn’t say which four tracks those were, though, and sadly they can never be retrieved.
Only just seen this thread, and can't be going through all 5 pages so apologies if it's been mentioned already.
And this one must have already shown up but it's worth repeating.
It's all about the groove
@slowoldman - thanks for the Emmylou track, I’ve seen her a number of times, including on the Wrecking Ball tour, and with Spyboy, and I’ve seen Daniel Lanois touring ‘Acadia’, so I’ve seen that song performed by both of them, great bass playing, a great singer, and a terrific tune!
This song by Stereolab
Severe lack of motorik bass-heavy shizz on this thread (except for Hawkwind, noice!) Moar bass! Moar motorik!

Cheers Malvern Rider this is epic.
Causa Sui surely nicked this bass intro
Moloko - time is now.
older chillis have loads of great intros
The Wanderer- U2 and Johnny Cash.
Enjoying this thread, thanks. A recent find for me, best cover of this track...
Bass from start to finish.
Not quite 'buena vista social club'`...
Great thread 🎸🎵👍
First ever band I saw live circa 1976:
Heavy Metal Kids You Got Me Rollin'
Ralphe Armstrong
Apols if it's been posted already, but I've been away for a few pages. Anyway, posted this on the Goth thread and there is overlap. Edit: and double the bass!
Have we had Cannonball by the Breeders? That’s ace.
A gammon favourite this one, especially when you live nextdoor! Cruises in the village like, 24hrs etc....
Three Days Jane's Addiction
Great tunes! Keep them coming...
Its not really an intro in the sense that the song is way to simple to have such frivolity but this played very very loud is a belter if a song.
Bomb track, Little Green Bag and Get the Funk Out (guilty pleasure, memories of youth) all came to mind.
Don’t think I’ve seen anybody post this. Not sure I’m bothered if it’s too obvious... 😉
Seven Nation Army. Too hungover to get the link to embed.
Klunk
Memberopen e, up an octave….
It isn't.

Seven Nation Army.
As I bass player, I must object!
It isn’t.
I know I was thinking of something else.
As I bass player, I must object!
Agreed.
Late to this party..... I give you:
Stanley Clarke - School Days
Pretty sure nobody’s mentioned the late, great Jaco Pastorius.
short intro.....
Intro ish but Two bass players for the price of one band.
Cop Shoot Cop 🙂
I'm not 100% sure this qualifies (starts with guitar before the bass kicks in and the intro is short) but it's what popped into my head:
Pretty sure nobody’s mentioned the late, great Jaco Pastorius.
blimey - never realised that was bass!
Not crawling through 6 pages, but if no-one's mentioned Rancid yet, shame on you all (and if theyhave, good call).
Disappointing lack of Tame Impala's The less I know the better, someone clever get with the linky linky 😉
This whole album is full of amazing bass lines but this is the track where it kicks in first
So heavy without just being metal, savage raspy tone and never losing the swaggering groove. It's my favourite RATM album.
The Raven
How could I have forgotten about this classic?! The beautiful Peven Everett, Gabriel
How did I miss this thread...
Anyone done Debaser yet?
Pretty sure nobody’s posted this yet, possibly one of my favourite Floyd pieces.
And Chris Squire, an astonishing bass player, I always find myself listening to his bass playing in particular whenever I play any Yes stuff.
Since this is a year old thread let's hit this jam in the old school way
How it started...
Same riff on bass and guitar. Counts.
Must've been posted before, possibly by me as part of the tiny desk set. Superb bass into, virtuoso middle break and jaw dropper outro all put in the shade of that groove...
No idea if its already been mentioned but Frankie Vallie's The Night has a glorious bassline.
A slightly sidewise entry, but up there with my favourite intro's of all time.
pretty basic but an iconic bass intro....
How about some Harry Nilson
Technically I guess the drums are first and it's very short but its a great little riff and its nice a present in the mix right through the song.
And also has someone said NIB. Might even have been me!
Technically not an outstanding bass intro I’m guessing that former session bassist Scott Walker is the one riffing away.
I’m pretty sure the intro was recorded with a regular 6 string guitar and the ‘dusty end’ of a bass guitar (both heavily distorted).
I have a feeling Ive already shared Gratitude but if not it doesn't do harm to share again
Come up and see me, make me smile
Psycho Killer
Don't think this has been added yet:
Damn, how could I have forgotten Psycho Killer! I saw them on that tour, as well, supported by Dire Straits. Chris Franz and Tina Weymouth are one of the great rhythm sections.
I don’t think this has been posted yet, it popped up on shuffle this morning prompting a certain amount of head banging while trying to do despatch checks on cars. I remember watching the video on a late-night MTV programme and it just blew me away.
Incredible band and amazing musicians.
None more bass:
