open e, up an octave....
All the better for that dirty little bit of fuzz right at the start
Material World Tracy Chapman
@13thfloorezzi oaft, good choice!
This just popped in my head for some reason. The bass is insane
So many to choose from! Great suggestions...
I considered - Peaches, Stranglers. Lovesong - The Cure (or A Forest) but I think for pure bass aceness...
Good shout with the black angels.
Check this out: science killer live on french TV:
The Stranglers all the way............
Again, this just popped up. What a beautiful song:
All my immediate choices have been posted already! Love this though
Okay last one from me:
RATM Bulls on Parade
RHCP Around The World
Also love Flea playing bass on Jane Says
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0hFQdEUQKM
Extreme - Get the Funk Out (just for CFH)
White Lines
Also, what Crikey said
Black Angels, very much accolytes of the Black Sabbath hypno-drone style, love the Sabbath link!
Also - Raekwon, I didn't realise I needed any new hip-hop in my life, but now do.
Also, just because all Youtubing seems to lead me back to Kyuss these days, owwwwwww....
And if I've done Extreme, then we need a bit of Billy Sheehan & Paul Gilbert.
Just had to post this, 'ookys bass goes weird and unsettling at the end of the song
No such thing as too obvious:
Stranglers? There's only this one! Play it every time I pick up my bass 😀
Gotta have a bit of Queen
3 spring to mind
carly Simon why 12” version
billy cobham stratus which was used by massive attack
Alan Partridge
I'm having this one too, alright it's technically a drum intro but bass is great and it's on earthed 4 and we forget this is an MTB forum
Can’t remember how to embed video.
Walk On The Wild Side
I always jump at the chance of posting up one of my favourite music clips ever, anyone doubts that the Verve weren't great then show them this clip:
What no Psycho Killer?
Fugazi - Waiting Room
couldn't decide on either of the above:
I've got to page two and no one has suggested Rapper's Delight?
bass only just gets in first here but he's a great bass player and it's their best song IMO
Off to bed but leaving with some cheating - not an intro an probably no actual bass in there:
Pink Floyd obvs
(takes a while to get started, mind)
+1 for Safe From Harm, killer tune...
Great choice for One of These Days. I'd like to add Money.
Soulside
Beefeater
Minor Threat
As mentioned above but no vid, Fugazi, Waiting Room.
Not sure why not embedding videos but...
The God That Failed, Metallica

He may not have been revered in the same way as Cliff Burton but Jason Newsted delivered some great playing imo.
And I know it's not an intro but this still bends my mind in bass playing.
Anaesthesia

Not an intro but you can’t have a thread about bass without Primus. Love them or loathe them nobody has skills like Mr Claypool!
Apologies in advance if it gives you nightmares.

Bit of a cheat, the video shows a Steinberger style headless bass, but it was actually recorded with a Prophet analogue synth. Still a great line no matter what you play it on.
Well if we are doing Buddy Guy...
Philippe Bussonet is in a league of his own here
Aerosmith Sweet Emotion
Was looking for something from Rhonda Smith but sadly found wanting of an intro. Bloody good player though, saw her with Jeff Beck a few years back.
@funkmasterp thank god, I was getting worried for a moment there!
both bloody awesome
Propellerheads doing a Bond theme, lots of bass.
Muse - Hysteria...
OHMSS is a fantastic track, another favourite of that era:
And it would seem wrong not to:
^^ wonder if anyone else had thought of "Love Song"..?
I can't believe this isn't posted already so apols if i missed it
I give up - Breeders - Cannonball
More JJ
something more recent
Moar Buddy Guy please!
Just listening to Parquet Courts album Wide Awake! Basically every track is completely driven by the bassist. Groovin’ in the kitchen whilst washing up
^^ bin dun
Most of my suggestions have been made, breeder, sugar hill gang, massive attack, prodigy etc
Can’t believe this one hasn’t been posted yet!
Right, having delve back in time before I got in to dance music
