Not really been the best start to the year for myself (and I'm sure many others).

Music helps me get through some dark times. I've not noticed a music thread on here for a while and have found some great 'new to me' music on STW over the years.

What songs do you lot listen to help get through the crap days?

Could be anything really, but I'm thinking tracks you listen to when you're low that make you smile, or reflect your situation, calm you down, or blast the hell out of the blues?

Here a few I've been listening to recently. (A couple maybe NSFW)

Primal Scream - Come Together, full ten minute version. Always makes me feel upbeat and euphoric.

Anything by Low. In particular, this is my mental health cure-all. Put it on some good speakers or headphones, lie down on the sofa and swim around in it.

Not a song - but a piece of music, probably my favourite ‘classical’ piece.

I tend to be boring and listen to the same stuff as normal just cranked up louder!

Some good stuff already mentioned

A classic for me

A silly sort of bumbling tune, but it brings me joy.

This never fails to raise a red wine smile!

Mahler used to do it for me. It would leave me thinking "well I'm not as depressed as he is".

These days I think a bike ride is better.

I've had a crap start to the year and found myself going back to things I listened to as a teenager, Pearl Jam, Placebo.

In a similar vein, if I'm feeling rubbish then there's music I avoid, the last couple of albums by Nick Cave and David Bowie's last one.

Not exactly a song, but I listen to this when I’m feeling down. It’s sooooooo perfect that I find it hard to believe anything is wrong anywhere in the world while it’s playing:

Based on the thread title and some of the lyrics being close.

What I currently use and will be blasted loud in a matter weeks, with a bit more luck.

Beverley Knights Angels cover, particularly at Live Lounge:

Always reminds me there’s good in this world.  I’m off to see her in Sister Act soon, I cannot wait.

Fearless by Pink Floyd.

Bit of a throwback but it’s perfect for so many crappy occasions

‘You say the hill’s to steep to climb. You say you’d like to see me try. You pick the place and I’ll choose the time. And I’ll climb the hill in my own way. Just wait a while for the right day. and as I rise about the tree line and the clouds I look down, hear the sound of the things you said today….

And if all else fails there’s Beethoven’s ninth.

Hot 8 always bring the joy.
This. With the video.

The sheer jubilance around the vocal breakdown sends shivers. Every. Damn. Time.

Good vibes your way dude, hope your year takes a turn for the up 🙂

@submarined Cheers, yes love that.

I've talked about my family situation a few times on here over the years and by its nature it's always going to mean some tough times. Coupled with some work and general life stuff, its been a bit crap at the moment.

However always try to adopt a glass half full, all things will pass attitude, as in the long run the highs and laughter outweigh the lows.

@Clover have sung that in my head on many a climb! Also like Fat Old Sun by Pink Floyd to put me in a mellow mood.

Anything by Pink Floyd would have me heading for the nearest railway bridge, whatever mood I was in.

Personally, and I know the enormous cheesiness of this choice, I can't be in a bad mood after hearing this

Or this

"We may lose or we may win
But we will never be here again"

This always reminds me how lucky I am to have someone who, for reasons only known to herself, puts up with me.

This is a great cover. Gets more and more uplifting as it goes.

And this is great - a tribute to yourself and those around you who help you through the crap times

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah of course.

Also, What time is Love by the KLF. First time I saw a huge bar spontaneous turn into a Brazilian Carnival of dance.
