Same as Teetosugars. The old sod asked for it (and he knows we all like Pink Floyd) so we are constantly reminded of him.

Going to see Aussie Pink Floyd with one of my brothers in a couple of weeks - we'll be raising a glass to dad when they play it.

I'm a bit of a sucker for a moving tune.. it's often the music and not the lyrics for me though..

"Lately" by Stevie Wonder.

"I had the Time of My Life" for some odd reason, seems to me to be a "goodbye" song.

"Just the Morning" by Lyle Lovett also

Both on the ipod playlist in the delivery suite before we lost our son. Very painful memories, either come on i have to leave the room or turn off. Just thinking about them is making me well up.

Getting Away With It - James.

Unlikely, I know, but all sorts of deep, dark personal reasons that mean I escaped a troubled time. Speaks to me of a rush into the light.

Ah, Tom Waits...

Ah indeed. Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis is another tear jerker dressed up as humour.

If 'Two Little Boys' by Rolf Harris comes on the radio when I am in the car on my own, I cry like a baby.

It was about two years ago when I first listened to the words properly.

The Smiths - Asleep
Elbow - Newborn
Both about death, cheery soul that I am.
Oh and Dubstar - Stars, no idea why, possibly associated with a bit of a lonely time in my life.

any dream will do from the musical joseph.

reminds me of a boy at my school who blew his brains out with a shotgun because he was bullied. more than 30 years later I am still haunted that I didnt stop the bullies.

Dire Straits - Bothers In Arms.

Especially poignant this week as one of my distant relatives was killed in Afghanistan on Monday.

RIP Ryan, much respect...

Knocking On Heaven's Door - Warren Zevon
The Wind (the album it came from) was released two weeks before he died of cancer. He knew exactly what was coming, and it shows in the performance. He's doing his best to give two fingers to cancer, and it doesn't quite work.

The Man Comes Around - Johnny Cash
Another song about impending death, and like Zevon's performance, Cash's voice has a fragility that perversely is the song's real strength.

Both of them are remarkable, and both have me blubbing like a three year-old.

[Edit - +1 for the Brothers In Arms comment. Knopfler's unfairly overlooked.]

Friends - The Beatles , the Wet Wet Wet version doesn't do it though.

As with many of the above it's a funeral song , a really good mate who was killed in a motorbike accident when I was 17. He was just about the only person I've ever met in my life that had no enemies ,the crematorium had a crowd stood outside as there wasn't room inside for everybody.

A lot of Richard Thompson stuff bring a tear to my eye...'How Will I Ever be Simple Again' being one.

However 'Sunset' when played by the Royal Marines gets me every single time I hear it.

Daddy Sang Bass - Johnny Cash. Reminds me of my fantastic late grandparents.
Paradise - Richard Ashcroft. Makes me think about the birth of my daughter.
Going to get some stick for this one but... Unknown Caller by U2. The line in there saying "Shout for joy - if you get the chance!" I always think of my miracle twin boys - who shouldn't be here, but for whom each day is a chance for happiness...

I'm not blubbing for anyone but Two Little Boys it has to be. I was about 4 when it came out and anyone who had a brother at that time, the song was written just for them.
Also God Save The Queen , Advance Australia Fair and Waltzing Matilda. Waltzing Matilda is a strong contender at my funeral. A whole new thread waiting to be done.

Green Spandex by Xavier Rudd:

A Sorta Fairytale by Tori Amos, particularly because I first listened to it on the day of the funeral of my brother's partner:

Currently the unprintable ****ed Up, with One More Night. There's just something about a furious 300 lb man bellowing a love song that's strangely irresistable. Maybe it's because it takes some effort to decipher the lyrics.

Black Sabbath - Changes.

To name a few.

A lot has been going on in my life of late, but all is good now

I was sort of half joking with 2 little boys earlier (though it sure is bit of a spine tingled at times) but thinking about it Rolf seems to have bit of a tallent with emotional songs. I first saw this one Christmas eve round my man's house when I was a kid. She sadly died late last year and this thread popping up and seeing her house go on the market today made me remeber this song.

Dam you Rolf you nearly got me this time!

The old boy croaked just after Rolf shuts the door at the end in the film!
