Being a fan of maudlin music I've often wondered what I would have played at my funeral to make sure at least a few people cry!
Currently I think this is my fav:

What would you lot have?

don't want a funeral, told folks and Mr MC not to waste any money bothering and certainly don't put me a grave with a vile headstone!! Get me cremated as cheap as possible ie pick up body from hospital and through me on a bonfire, scatter ashes over mountain. done 😉

For me. Not sure why, but it just seems to work for me.

I recently sent a dearly beloved relative off to this, as it was what she had always wanted;

I could hear her giggling to herself, I swear. She would have loved the reactions. A mixture of tears and utter joy. But, mostly, utter joy at the memory of such a wonderful person. Perfect.

Even more perfect that my daughter now bears her name as one of hers. Her memory will live on, and I shall be sure to make sure my daughter grows to love La Mer as much as I do, as much as she did. 🙂 (Smiling through the tears as I listen and type here)

I am really not sure why there is a picture of a child crying by Santa's grave on this video...

This will be for me.

I always think of what I'd like played "as my last song" ..

My current fave is this, as its from "my generation" and pretty much everyone knows the words so would be singing it in their heads.

My uncle died in October. He had a few of his favorite songs at his funeral. Including Monty Python - Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life. Which about summed him up really.

On hearing that you don't have to have hymns, another uncle promptly stated he wants Queen - A Night At The Opera. The whole album. I told him I'm sure that there would be a time limited on the service. He said he didn't care, he'd ensure there was enough time. He's a stubborn bugger, so I'm sure he'll write it in to his will and or pay for the service before he goes.

A mate of mine had "feeling hot hot hot" as he went down in the crem.
He was a real joker and gave us all his last laugh.

I don't want to be buried thanks, much rather be burned to a crisp then scattered in Chichester Harbour, but this song would send me on my way..

Jon & Vangellis, "I'll find my way home"

The headteacher I used to work for went out to "Simply the Best".
The most caring man you could ever meet, taken way too early at 54, and quite simply, he was the best.

Friend has told her kids she wants Lillie Allen's F#ck You.

Think i'd have to go for something operatic, Intermezzo from Cavalleria rusticana, or maybe a touch of Pagliacci, or Samson and Delilah

very traditional, not saying I want this version but this hymn is the hymn of the rugby league challenge cup final and I always moved to hear 80,000 fans belting it out at wembley. I choke when I sing it

my mate Owain always said he wanted this one so people would be laughing and enjoying

Or Johhny Cash's cover of U2's One.
I figure having Hurt played at your funeral may be just a bit *too* depressing

On a serious note, if I was having a funeral - which I won't be, it would have to be Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis by Ralph Vaughn Wiiliams.

Recently heard this ("Everywhere I go" by Lissie) played at a funeral and it really grabbed the emotions of people there:

Had this conversation with friends up the road, their son (13) said when his mum dies he's having them play 'Ding Dong the Witch is Dead!' delivered absolutely deadpan as left the room - brilliant!

I may follow Peter Sellers' lead and have them play something that I really hate just because I won't be there to hear it. For me, Soft Cell's Tainted Love.

🙂

I want "fire" by Jimi Hendrix Experience. Or if there is a good crowd, the Tia Carrere cover from Wayne's World. 😀

Mrs J wants "Hot Hot Hot" by the Cure.

As a sometime bona fide gigging musician whose music was welcome rather than tolerated (not any more mind!), I once skilfully murdered/pastiched Metalica's "nothing else matters" at a house party, only to find that it had very recently been played at a funeral of one guest's friends who had taken his own life. There is no emoticon that says how bad a thing that was.

Don't Fear the Reaper, Blue Oyster Cult.

and

Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye, sung by Gracie Fields.
It's got a brillian ending, the sound of steam train chuffing off into the distance.
