…the call every parent dreads.
My wife received a call this afternoon to say our son had been hit by a car,not far from home. We went straight to him at the road side.
Just coming out of hospital now -CT scan all clear bruised and cuts everywhere, head in bandage. He’s in shock, no serious damage though I’m sure he’ll ache tomorrow.
6 police cars turned up with ambulance, driver in back of police car, no idea what will happen to her.
Annoyingly he has a race on Sunday 1500m in a major league, that’s not going to happen now he’s only annoyed about that.
My youngest son was with him at the time, he stepped up to the mark stopped traffic called 999. He’s also shocked.
What a day !!!!
Hope all is OK
Hope he's OK, and huge well done to the younger brother!
I expect you’re all in shock. Take care. Massive thumbs ups for no 2 son having the presence of mind to get help. 👍
Bloody hell, hope he mends well
Oh gosh what a horrible thing to happen to your child.
I hope they both recover from the shock very soon.
Healing vibes to all.... Including the car driver.
Glad to hear he is fine.
Explain in detail how it happened ...
Sounds like their initial reactions were both good, despite what must have been an awful experience. Heal well
Best wishes to you all
Shit, hope your son is ok and well done to the other one.
Sounds like they both need a celebratory weekend treat to me
****.
That's a rough one. Hope you all take time to get through it.
Can't argue with WCAs post!
Really sorry. Here’s to a quick recovery for all.
Gawd, I was bad enough when my kid just had a random nosebleed coming home from school. Hope all is ok and it’s not too stressful a time.
Sending healing vibes.
I can't imagine getting a call like that op.
Relieved to hear that, given the scenario, he's got off very likely.
Hope he's on the mend real soon.
Get Well Soon 🙂
Echo what others have said and really glad he’s okay. The youngest definitely deserves a treat.
Balls. Get well soon, junior! And well done, OP on stating that your son was knocked over by a car - rather than the newspaper-style '...was in an accident with a car'... Cars are big, unyielding lumps that are steered by people, they don't just randomly hit people.
driver in back of police car, no idea what will happen to her.
Nowt most likely!
Hope your son gets well soon.
I hope all goes well for you all from here on
Nowt most likely!
Well we don't know the circumstances - we don't know if he was on a bike riding along or walking and stepped out between parked cars!
Hope your son is soon back on his feet. And his bike.
Personal experience suggests he will soon be visited by the cops claiming he wasn’t paying attention.

Given the tone of the new highway code and the hierachy of responsibility I would hope not but fear you may be right. If it were my son I'd be reminding any visiting officer of that and pointing out that a vaguely competent driver should compensate for the risks around them.
Most importantly I hope the OP's son is ok.
Might I suggest that all conjecture stops? We have no idea what happened. I doubt that the OPn even has a perfect understanding. Lets just keep it to best wishes to the Op's lad.
Nowt most likely!
The most likely reason being the driver wasn't at fault? Or a weird prejudice against the excellent work our stretched police force do meaning that even if the driver was at fault, the driver would still be allowed to walk away with a slap on the back and a joking "well, nobody died I suppose"?
weird prejudice
Doesn't seem weird to me, considering the website we're logged into.
(Easy example - see last sentence, first post of this thread - https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/clubmate-got-knocked-off-bike-yesterday-deliberately/)
Or a weird prejudice against the excellent work our stretched police force do
Not a prejudice, more a judgement based on personal experience of police response to bike-car interaction.
If it were my son I’d be reminding any visiting officer of that and pointing out that a vaguely competent driver should compensate for the risks around them.
Any visiting officer wouldn't get in the door if they tried that with my son

Presumably, based on the numerous threads on here over the years where people feel they've been let down by the legal protections for vulnerable road users, and their experience of the attitude of the police force in response to complaints.
Anyway, we don't know what happened. I'm just glad OP's son is OK. I can't imagine the anguish that sort of even would cause.
