We can't get onto our cottage until 4. Anywhere i can safely leave my bike if we visit en route? I don't want it on the roof

Ravenscar is reasonably quiet and has a couple of nice walks you can do to visit the old workings and whatnot, I suppose it depends on what you want to do. THere'd be no issue with a bike on the roof in Ravenscar though

Sent you a pm. Although busier Robin Hood's bay also worth considering for a day out. I don't generally think the area is a crime hotspot but even in 'nice' parts bikes go missing.
Hope today's sunshine holds for you this week.

Could it go in the car while you are not in the car?

Cheers all (and Slowol for the DM). We ended up going on North Bay, and playing cricket/flying kites on the beach so I had it in view in the end. Double locked on too. Shouldn't have to, but you know how it is.

Ride from Grosmont later on I think!

How deep are the fords?

Unless you like swimming I'd recommend the foot bridges. Not tried those fords but the Esk and Murk Esk are not insubstantial streams, and it's been damp.
If thinking about the one just N. of the village then better to take the path (marked as footpath on map) immediately S. of the railway and follow the ramp up past the Old School tea room and churchyard to the top of the tunnels (the foot tunnel only goes to the engines sheds and is a dead end after). Go through the gate and turn right and follow the RUPP of BOAT (or whatever the designation for a dirt road is) to join the tarmac road coming from the ford above the horrible double arrow climb. If busy you may have to walk the first flat bit of path before the school due to the crowds and narrow footbridge. During the week should be no probs.
Not been in the Old School cafe since it changed hands but it used to do much better coffee than the station one. Jazz Cafe opposite the station car park is quite chilled but can be expensive if you like to buy artwork (the art is the cost not the coffee).
