Actually very cool....
I'm not a mumbo jumbo sorta guy but there IS something special working with wood.
We had some chairs made by Melvyn Tolley in Ashbourne and it's the care with which he does the whole thing that makes it magic. His workshop is just full of bits of wood, and things being bent, and tools, and jars. It feels like it's another marvelous world. They weren't cheap but given the amount of work involved there is no way he is getting rich out of it either
Every time we look at them we notice things:
The spindle on the left below is made in two pieces, the top is turned and the bottom is shaped by hand. But they are done from the same piece of wood and glued together so the grain matches.

The seat is my by standing over the blank and shaping it with an adze. Then the legs are attached by knocking a plug into cut at the top of the leg

and finally, and somewhat unnecessarily, the legs and the stretchers are turned to that the grain faces you when looking at it. There really is no need for that level of detail but it so works
