Got a parking ticket for a car with my number plate on the front and a different one on the back. The back one seems to be correct according to the DVLA, but the front one has a K instead of an X as the second character, and this is the one that the parking warden has logged on the ticket. Photos show both plates.

Have contested it and sent a picture showing that my car is a grey Ford, not a white Vauxhall.

Bah. Faff that I don’t need.

I score this moan as 1/10.

As you were…

Yeah, call them up and it should be fine. We had ours cloned once and they racked up a huge number of speeding and parking offences in a very short period of time. One call to the DVLA sorted it. And like yours it wasn't the same type or colour of car either.

My guess will be a black screw cap making the front number plate look like a K, not an X. Is it a council ticket or a private one.

My experience of this sort of stuff is that people are (surprisingly) sensible.  I'm certain you'll be fine but, as you say, faff.

At least it's still good old fashioned wardens issuing the tickets, compared to what's to come.

My boss who doesn't even own car, got a ticket for driving in a zone he shouldn't have been delivered to his house. The photo of the person who was driving sort of resembles him in the sense that he is bald and wears glasses. Now here's the thing he lives in Germany, he told that to get his address the offending drivers face would have to be run through some facial recognition AI software and he was picked out against his ID card. Which he tells me is illegal, something to do with ethnic profiling etc.

I find that hard to believe. CCTV is all but banned in Germany (dashcams are pretty much forbidden unless you only retain the last 30seconds of info) and the German government are largely behind the moves to ban facial recognition throughout Europe.

He said as much. To rub salt in it, he said he was out of the country at the time of the offence. I have no reason to not believe him.

That sounds like internet conspiracy twaddle to be honest. And the wardens make more mistakes than the automated systems and catch far fewer offenders.
