M1 north this morning. Seems the other driver didn't think I'd moved across for them soon enough so when I did, they came past, pulled in front of me and braked.

Whole sorry event was captured on the dash cam. Some say I have an over developed sense of justice and fair play so just looking for opinions as to whether to call 101.

Worth the effort or am I just wasting my time and that if the police.

Ofcourse you do.

What happens next time when the victim gets caught out.

Why would you even consider not?!

A lot of forces have sites to upload dash-cam footage and make reports. You could try that for the area you were in.

A) did you have to lock up when braked?

B) was their manoeuvre dangerous to you and other road users?

If so yeah report it and send the data to plod. If they do anything that’s a bonus, don’t rely on em’ cos they’re too busy texting mates and woefully understaffed.

Dicks, are always dicks. Best leave em’ to it and begon.

Either the top end of Derbyshire, or just into South Yorkshire.

Pass it to the Police - they may have other reports. If you don't and the next time he does it someone gets badly hurt, you'll feel awful

Pass it to the Police – they may have other reports.

This. In isolation they might not do much but if they're getting several reports about the same driver...

Let's hope it's South Yorkshire Police then as last time I tried reporting a dangerous driver in Derbyshire they all but accused me of being a trouble making time waster.

In reality the police will do very little to nothing for such a minor offence, most forces are not even going to reports of burglary because of cuts to police numbers
I would forget about it

Straight from the horse's mouth so to speak?

I thought the reality might be something like that, rather than the idealistic option that I'm perhaps prone to default to.

Place the video om Youtube and let us people/plebs and the german car drivers decide, if your driving was acceptable, to more highly skilled and important users of the motorway.

Let’s hope it’s South Yorkshire Police

most forces are not even going to reports of burglary because of cuts to police numbers

Personal experience would suggest that SYP would adopt a similar approach - sadly because of continued cuts, football and trees, SYP now seemingly view burglary and the recovery of stolen goods to be at best an inconvenience despite the fact that as reported recently on BBC Look North Leeds, South Yorkshire now has the highest rate of burglary (up 9% from 2018 in recent ONS figures).

Unless you've got plenty of free time to waste getting increasingly frustrated with SYP, I'd chalk it up to experience and move on.

Has anyone ever been braked tested and failed to stop - just wondering (should you both be still alive) how the subsequent roadside conversation of shame would go! Assume its straight to fisticuffs?

OP, ignore all the 'giver uppers' - report it, that way you've done all you personally can do...unless the cam shows you slowing to 50 in the outside lane whilst giving him the finger and then a series of swerve ins and outs between lanes...in which case let it go!

I hope all of you criticising the Police are actively badgering your democratically elected Police and Crime Commissioners to get the Chief Constable to reprioritise their resources, and are prepared to pay the extra required to give them the resources they need.

Yep - and also escalating to SYP Chief Constable Stephen Watson.
Complete waste of time though.

and are prepared to pay the extra required to give them the resources they need

Yep I'd pay extra - but see earlier comments about trees and football ... e.g. SYP's own figures for the 2017/18 season show that the cost to SYP for policing football in South Yorkshire was £1,004,718 - equivalent to 27 additional Police Officers.
Also plenty of info in the public domain about SYP acting as private security firm for a commercial organisation and various FOI requests including details concerning the fact that between 2017/18 and 2018/19, police spent more than £110,000 on overtime relating to staffing tree-felling protests in Sheffield.

So it isn't just about giving the Police more money ...

Police forces up and down the country do a very difficult job (often with conflicting priorities from my perspective) and in an ideal world the OP should feel that he could report a traffic incident and the Police would do something about it ... however the reality is that they have neither the time or the resources:

I drive between M1 junction 36 and 42 and (then the M62) on daily basis. I probably see a bad accident at least once a week, and I see poor, agressive and dangerous driving on a daily basis including 'punishment passes', undertaking, lane hogging, drifting, phone usage.

I'm not convinced that filming and reporting each of these incidents would help the Police or the safety of that motorway, but I'm open to any compelling arguments!

Sadly, there have also been a number of fatalities along that stretch of motorway recently that take up a lot of SYPs resouces, one earlier this week and another in October - both involving 'pedestrians' near junctions 36 and 37.

FFS some folk.

Submit it, if they do nothing with it then that's their choice but at least you've done your part.

Aren't motoring offences a nice little money spinner ??

Would have thought reporting with a conviction on the back of it would have made money for vlittle effort ?

Onzadog should get 10% of the fine.... 😉

The down side to the dash cam culture is the volume of this that it could generate means that (with current budget constraints) there's not enough resource to deal with the very worst.

You can't report it all and the Police can't manage it all.

If we want the system to function/cope on the tech that runs it today a little judgement is called for.

As for the OP it really does depend how severe. If it was a full on chuck the anchors out a few feet from the bumper then maybe it's worth the effort. With the volume of stuff now I'd be tempted to move on. It's such a common piece of arse hattery round here I'd barely give it a second thought (yes it's that bad).

I’ve just fitted a Dashcam as I’m fed up of arseholes taking the piss on the roads.

It’s not going to stop them taking the piss though, you’ll just have a video of them doing it.

Also what are you counting as “taking the piss”? I drive about 20k miles and find Myself involved in very little conflict on the roads.

And regarding the original question I’d probably have a WTF moment and then not think about it again and move on.

Should he include the lane hogging, or just cut to the retaliation?

My wife is an insurance investigator. Her employer (own business) will not have a car without a dash cam now and is supplying her with one for her own car.
If for nothing else it protects you when it comes to insurance claims, showing someone else was at fault in a scam situation and it helps your insurance company deal with spurious personal injury claims.

Move on. Life’s too short.
Bit of luck he’ll brake check a foreign 40 tonner with a tired driver & iffy brakes.

Should he include the lane hogging, or just cut to the retaliation?

Nice troll. As it happens, I was travelling at 70mph (shown on dash cam via gps -73 on Speedo). Moved to outside lane to initiate overtake with nothing close in that lane. Driver to my left then decides that they should drive at 70 as well so now my options are break the speed limit to complete the overtake or drop back in behind. By this time, Volvo estate has accelerated down the slip lane, come across all lanes and is now behind me flashing their head lights. So, dropping back is not an option as the safe following distance behind has been compromised.

So yes, if I send the clip to the police, the preceding clip (front and rear) will be included.

Playing devils advocate, lane hogging is inconvenient and frustrating for other road users but even if it had happened, would it really be justification for brake checking someone at 70mph at about a cars length in front?
