Got a message from youngest daughter yesterday - she had been knocked down by some idiot on a bike while she was on a pedestrian crossing with the cross light flashing green.
Moron asked if she was OK, she said no, he then rode off sharpish!
She actually called 111 and paramedics came to see her and she's got concussion.
Some people are just dicks and assume the laws don't apply them.
No wonder cyclists sometimes get a bad rep.
😠
Hope she recovers soon.
Indeed, I hope she recovers quickly.
As you say, some people... All areas of life.
Hope she's ok.
Not to divert the thread but that's the type of incident that gets reported by my local rag as 'Callous cyclist in hit & run on vulnerable female' when the mode of transport has zero relation to the person on a bike being an idiot.
Sorry to hear that OP. Hope she recovers 100% and fast. Were there any footage CCTV/doorbell security cams in the area? You need to pin the ****er.

More likely because ‘cyclists’ are a disliked minority in a country where cars are ‘the norm’ and car-drivers are therefore ‘normal’. It’s also been a long-term media trend to pick on cyclists.
So car-drivers don’t get broad-brushes painted on them. The reason that you never read ‘no wonder car-drivers sometimes get a bad rep’ after a hit and run by car-driver is because car-drivers are the norm and they aren’t singled out as a ‘group’ if one of them does something shitty (or even if 1000 of them does).
So the upshot is: If (say) 0.1 percent of cyclists hit and run and get reported, then all cyclists will get a bad rep no matter what the trend.
But if recorded (motorists) hit-and-run incidents increased* from 19,239 in 2013 to 28,010 in 2017 then you still can guarantee that ‘motorists’ still aren’t going to get a bad rep.

It’s just some people. I used to work with a hardcore roady who, when he found out I rode too, told me a couple of horror stories of him once being pursued by an angry driver, rammed off the road and hospitalised, and on two other occasions being assaulted by angry drivers who’d got out of their cars and decked him
As I got to know him I quickly realised he was an utter twunt of the highest order. His self-regard and sense of entitlement were absolutely off the scale
He was without doubt the most pompous, egotistical, arrogant and argumentative man I have ever met. He could literally start a ruck in an empty room.
The assaults he’d suffered then made more sense. He probably not so much asked for them, as begged.
@binners - Genius - He probably not so much asked for them, as begged.
You only meet people like that a couple of times in your life. On reflection, you see that they're the common denominator amongst it all!! 😀 The funny / sad thing is that your chap and hundreds like them will never step back and think 'could it be me?'!! I've been riding bikes since i was pretty much able to walk and can honestly count on one hand how many incidents i've been involved with. Now, if i'd have more of an ego about me and not able just to walk / ride away with a smile i'd need arms and legs like an octopus!
Getting back to the post though, hope the OP's daughter is OK.

I think they are a member on here.

Full member thanks 😁
PS hope op's daughter is OK, keep a good eye on her for a while and maybe stop school PE for a bit.
Some good info here which can be applied outside rugby.

I have been riding all my life too but have gone involved in a few incidents. They all stem from me shouting or gesturing after the driver had been a ****er. I have stopped doing it now though as the only people who stop are those after a fight and nothing good comes of it although it is difficult when the adrenalin gets going and someone has just come close to knocking me of my bike.
Indeed, I hope she recovers quickly.

Yep. Hope your daughter's ok.

^ this!!
She's doing OK, thanks for the thoughts.

Yes, but which one.

That rings true a bit. I've opened my trap a couple of times and realised it might have been a bad idea. I've also been on the receiving of totally unprovoked aggression and abuse. Too stupid to drive properly - too stupid to engage with.
OP hope your daughter recovers quickly.
Some people are *, some ride bikes and some like Michael Bublé etc.
IME on daily cycling commutes into Central London without doubt the most arrogant and self-entitled road users have been cyclists.
Obviously they are a minority but a particularly unpleasant one imo. Their lack of consideration for other road users and their misplaced belief that they are somehow very special is frankly quite shocking. And, for me, extremely embarrassing.
When I first experienced it I couldn't quite believe it, it was so much at odds with my experience of group cycling with clubs and mates, where everyone is considerate, generous, and looks out for one another.
I suspect most of these people simply use cycling as a mode of transport and never cycle for fun or recreational purposes.
And btw I am very much talking about Central London, not the suburbs. Ironically I find car drivers in Central London much more aware of cyclists and consequently more considerate than in the suburbs.
Hope your daughter mends quickly sharkbait.

+1 on this
I've ridden a few times in central, felt very very very safe. Was incredibly surprised! Drivers are very aware of cyclists around, fully expectant of them and pretty relaxed about them (us) tbh.
Suburbs is a s* show I'm glad I live nowhere near Barnet etc. God the attitude of people (drivers) is disturbing. London suburbs and perhaps also Essex must have the highest heart attack rate of Europe because everyone has a stick up their a*.
Haven't experienced what you are talking about but maybe they (the cyclists) are so fed up they are just beyond caring any more
Also +1 on not reacting. I get annoyed at my mates when they give a driver the ****er sign (even though it's rightly so). Just feeds aggression.
Hope your daughter is okay OP?
There are dicks out there and some ride bikes.
