This is my 96 year old grandfather flying back in September. It was arranged as his birthday present. He was in the Glider Pilot Regiment and survived the battle of Arnhem during operation market garden.
😀
That, that is ace.
"... before the wooden overcoat."
Wizard. That's the spirit.
I didn't know "virtue signalling" was a thing. More of it, say I.
😀
Well done, her. No doubt she was a busy person, who went well beyond what she needed to do to arrange that for him. Some people are especially nice.
What a lovely story; great for the old boy and well done that woman!
"bombing raids behind enemy lines"
Glad the bbc cleared up that minor detail.
Can't imagine the thrill of flying ince more. Always thought the wrench from flying at demob must have been particularly hard to take for the pilots whose career ended in 45 and had to go back to normal civil jobs/lives. I imagine the constant fear wasn't missed mind!
Fantastic!
Mint-tastic!
Top post 🙂
i think we did the German WW2 pilot that went up in a Spitfire recently, he was in his 90’s too (of course)
Those WW2 glider pilots had balls of steal, the angle of descent was crazy steep.
And OP, that's not virtue signalling by the way.
Is happy
Apparently Ryan air have been desperately trying to get the phone number for his rest home
