Happy Christmas Shinton, and Happy Christmas to all you rag tag mix of wonderful people on here.

So far since I came down to the Cotswolds on Monday I've visited 4 old friends and had a good catch-up.

Had a Christmas Eve breakfast, with the whole of my late wife's family where we all had a good laugh and lots of hugs.

Today is a very relaxed Christmas dinner with just the In Laws. A few more visits to friends planned over the next few days and then back north to see my girlfriend. We will then be planning holidays 🙂

So yes after 3 years of feeling lonely and that was it with any excitement, I'm back and the lights are ON. 😀

Happy Christmas Shinton and Mr Overshoot.

I was pleased to see your news yesterday MrO.

I've done the important jobs (empty dishwasher, wash up late night glasses and decant the port) and now we're (me and the lad) drinking coffee and listening to Christmas Tunes. Soon there will be young children, noise and over excitement. For now peace on earth and goodwill to all.

I don't know who Mike Peters is but...that sort of recovery is great from any perspective!
MrOvershoot - it's been great to read your recent very positive posts and long may they continue!
Having said that, I'd prefer to not know about What's App undies; go to Dead Good Undies or Hom if you want to impress with the packaging!

While we're all sharing things that cheer us up this is a lovely, heartwarming little Xmas story:

Technically Boxing Day news, but Ilkeston CC held their annual charity hill climb up the main street this morning, and as I was marshalling one of the road closures before we started an older lady wandered over for a chat....

"What's road closed for?"

"There's a charity cycling event starting soon"

"Oh, so nothing violent then? Not closed by the Police?"

I love my adopted home town and it's crazy residents with their low expectations.

Heart warming thread.....

Lost my mum to leukaemia in 2018. Second Christmas "home" without her.

Nice to see some do manage to fight it.

heartwarming little Xmas story:

My mum worked at M&S at Lakeside as the managers secretary. Our cat and dog used to get fed on roast chicken and mini sirloin steaks....!

I got a job there fixing tills, collecting baskets and trollies before going on the night shift to save up for travelling. Good memories.

And it's true.... The evening sales were awesome!

I honestly think one of the things my old man misses most about my mum's departure is the M&S discount... 😕
