If this has been done recently maybe someone would be good enough to redirect me to the thread.
But if not, does anyone have any up to date experience and would make a recommendation?
My daughter is off on a trip to a remote part of Fiji in a couple of weeks and has asked me if I would get her a solar panel charger for her phone. (if it were me I'd be glad of a fortnight off grid but for a teenager that's just not a concept!)
So, are they really any good and how much do I have to spend? I tried my Google Foo and got totally confused.
Any help appreciated. Cheers.
I’d go for the £60 Anker solar charger myself, think it had three solar panels. Obviously needs sun to work!
I have a RLERON 25000mAH, about £25 from Amazon.
Only used it a few times but charges my phone almost as quick as the mains.
To get any meaningful charge it'll need to be a fold out large panel type like the Anker or I have a blitzwolf 28w fold out panel.
It's pretty good and comes with clips to hang off a backpack but it's not subtle and there's no onboard battery, just two usb ports.
As above, large fold out solar panel will do the job, but they are best for charging the power packs, then use a power pack to top up the phone. My son took one to Le Mans and they kept 3 of them charged up for 5 days.
Better to get one with a battery in it, so you can leave it out all day to charge, then when you plug in it dumps it's charge into your phone quickly.
We bought a Big Blue 28w solar charger. Has a couple of USB ports and a digital display showing charge rate. We also have a battery pack we use the panel to charge. Will charge a phone pretty quickly in direct sunlight.
It received very good reviews at its price point. Would have bought the Anker but from what I understand they have discontinued making them so the ones for sale are old stock and you might struggle to swap it like for like in case of warranty issues.
As well as the Anker one (always been happy with their stuff) I've seen RAVpower recommended.
A more basic phone that doesn't need loads of power might help. Also less concern if lost/trashed on a trip like that than an expensive smart phone. Though not so good for all the selfies 😉
Maybe both. Good, low power rugged phone that's got great reputation for reception, use for actual communication need and kept charged all times. Smartphone for the pictures. No big deal if power lost at times.
Cool, thanks for the replies, I’ve ordered a Ravpower 16w.
Good idea about charging a battery pack, she already has one of those.
Thanks for all the suggestions I've been looking into this too, I want a seperate power pack to use with it, any recommendations to keep just a phone charged?
Thanks
Tkmaxx do battery packs, I’ve bought a couple from there in the past and they’re just as good as the more expensive ones from Morphie and the like
