Good evening all
I'm considering soda blasting the timbers in my loft space. It's an old house with a previous ventilation problem that meant some of the timbers in the loft were quite mouldy on the surface and it all smells a bit. Since fixing the ventilation the mould and smell have improved considerably but I'd like to give it a good clean.
So, has anyone done this? Did it work? If DIY, what kit did you use? Any recommended contractors in or around Sheffield? The kit seems hard to hire, any place you know of?
Thanks.
I read your topic title and yes i have just bought about 10ks worth of soda blasting kit instead of bead blasting kit though if i change some of the parts i can go heavy and se it for peening before powder coating.
the advantage is soda is really gentle on stuff like carbon fibre and aluminium but is completely biodegradeable so you can wash it away
im sure the same is true and iirc the company I bought my stuff does sell industrial blasting equipment to companies that restore old buidings using gentle techniques rather than blasting shit into oblivion however its a bit of a different setup
mine is a big compressor box and filter the outdoorsey stuff is a suit a giant hopper and the mother of all towed diesel powered compressors
I dont think the words DIY could be used though i could be wrong someone somewhere wil probably rent the gear for a grand a week or something
in fact google it does wood
Yes you could soda blast it, but a loft would be a bit of an ass to do.
Tight space no or little ventilation.
Have you thought of using something like Osmo Wood Reviver or Oxalic acid(ebay is good for oxalic) . Paint on and leave to do its magic. Always test an area first.
Much cheaper than soda.
