I think the most impressive thing is the net spend of £90m odd over the past 5 years. A very well run club with a clear plan.

I'm no Utd or Liverpool fan so I'm enjoying watching the from afar.

Two things I've noticed:

1. Liverpool fans are really pleased they've won and don't seem to be obnoxious about it. Just proud and relieve about their own team.

2. Man Utd fans being REALLY bothered by it and lots of mentioning how Liverpool can't celebrate/have a parade/first time they've won in years/no-one there to see it, etc. Classic Vicky Pollarding. Very amusing. Some individuals not realising that them trying to downplay or negate Liverpool's victory elevates it far more than just saying "well done fellas, see you next season". Aaah, football!

As to Liverpool, really well done.

(edit, not all fans of course, but how my social media looks!)

Yeah Liverpool fans are so pleased that they've won, that they set their beloved Liver building on fire last night. I just really don't get football fan mentality at all.

Boom. Can I claim my five pounds now?

Could be that the idiot setting a building on fire wasn't doing so to celebrate a football victory?

Eh?!

He was stood in the middle of a mass gathering of Liverpool fans celebrating their victory....he fired a firework at the building and the crowd cheered when it hit.

But yeah maybe he wasn't there celebrating the win 😂

To be fair, setting fire to a building by firing a firework at it isn't exactly premeditated arson, is it?

I was wondering whether there will be enough matches for statisticians to put valid numbers on "home advantage". Not only wins/loses but cards and fouls the refs give out without 50,000 supporters hurling insults at them.

for all intents and purposes the league was already won, watching the sterile fa cup without out crowds is embarrassing, Leicester trying to get up a head of steam in the final minutes was impossible ... are they really going play the final behind closed doors! It's televised training games.

Hubris time - I think I’ll go back through some of the early posts from this thread just to see what some folk were saying back at the beginning of the season. binners isn’t going to come out of it that well... 😂

You must be bored DD! He’ll turn up again soon.

I was similarly sceptical about Chelsea and Lampard. Some very good players coming in to complement a lot of good, young talent. Like Klopp Lampard seems to be well liked by his players. I hate how they just seem to be to regenerate so quickly to become contenders again!

Someone just sent me this. It made me laugh so I thought I’d share…

A man finds an old lamp and gives it a rub. Out pops the genie and tells him that he will grant the man one wish.

“I want eternal life”, says the man.
The genie explains that he can’t fulfil that particular wish.

The man says, “OK then, I want to be there when Liverpool win the Premier league”.

“You crafty bastard”, says the genie.😂

Well, if there’s one thing for sure, it’s that binners can’t tell the future so I don’t know where you got that one from...

Although, here he was getting something half right...

I’m going to have a bet on Liverpool and city finishing 25+ points clear of everyone else this season.

I was just having a giggle at the Davis Squire take. The man's a genius

Bravissimo - are you seriously dissecting my predictions? Jesus, you must be taking lockdown boredom to another level.

I'll just show you my betting account. There's no way any sane person would be stupid enough to put any money on anything I predict. I only wish I wasn't. Mind you, my own grasp on sanity has always been shaky.

Anyway... in an act of supreme masochism, I've been invited to and am actually going to be a sacrificial Manc for (SD) beers with 5 of my scouse mates celebrating their Premiership win on Thursday night. I think I owe them that after the 3 decades of amusement they've provided me with 😀

Wigan have gone into administration

Looks like another case of dodgy owners. It does make you wonder, yet again, what the EFL's 'right and proper' test actually involves?

The club stated on 4 June that under the EFL’s owners’ and directors’ test, the league had approved the sale to NLF by the owners since November 2018, International Entertainment Corporation (IEC), another Hong Kong-based, Cayman Islands-registered company, which owns a hotel and casino in the Philippines.

The EFL’s test and takeover process involves determining that a new owner has the money to buy a club and support it financially for at least the remainder of the season and the whole of the following season. However less than a month later and a week since Au Yeung was announced as the majority owner, the club has appointed the administrators Gerald Krasner and Paul Stanley, of insolvency practitioners Begbies Traynor.

I think they're going to have to look at the 12 points deduction otherwise next year's leagues could be decided by who manages not to go into administration. Apparently Sheffield Wednesday is teetering on the edge and potentially lots more are on the cusp of folding too after Covid

Crappy rule for the last goal to be chalked off, Foden had nothing to do with the ball hitting his arm after he was dragged down, it didn't create a goalscoring chance, Mahrez did that himself when he ran with the ball and put it past Alison.

Typical game between these two though, not much between them in play really but sometimes it just goes for one of the teams, the commentators tend to go overboard due to the scoreline rather than how the game was played.

Couple of very poor performances (Gomez especially - hooked at halftime) and collectively off it.

Quite looking forward to next season with Chelsea’s improvement and Ole being the messiah again, might be less of a procession.

Ole is the new Pardew, I expect utd to have a winning run, then a losing run, or vice versa. Chelski will probably be in with a shout though.

Interesting to see what happens in the transfer market with finances affected by cv19, will prices drop due to selling clubs being short of funds and needing to sell to survive, or will they hold out for pre cv19 negotiated release clauses. IMO players were agreeing to overly high release clauses anyway even before price finances took a dive, they may find themselves trapped in contracts that don't reflect their ambitions.

Interesting to see what happens in the transfer market with finances affected by cv19

We just sold a player who's been injured for most of the season to Bayern for 44 million (10 more than we paid a couple of years back), I'm not sure that the bottom has fallen out of the market just yet, or at least not for the big clubs.

How long do current tv contracts have to run? The end of those will be the moment of truth, certainly for the smaller PL clubs. I think the only reason we're seeing the end of this PL season is that the alternative was voiding the contracts and giving the firms a chance to renegotiate/pull out.

The premier league are having to pay back a chunk of the tv rights already, and the loss of matchday revenue isn't a small amount.

Bayern have made such a public pursuit of Sane, they would have looked like fools if they hadn't signed him, I am not sure that will be representative of other transfers. If city had gone after a Bayern player in such a manner, Bayern would have thrown a tantrum and city would have been fined for publicly tapping up players.

There was an article yesterday that the Premier League are charging the newly promoted teams £8M to make up for the loss of TV revenue. Actually it was all teams but the newly promoted ones are being hard done by.

Agree MSP. I think prices will be down. Good example is Liverpool refusing to pay the price for Timo Werner.

And United telling Dortmund there’s no way they’re paying 110 million for Sancho.

With regard to VAR, I now hate it more than ever as I had a daft bet on City beating Liverpool 5-0. Curse you VAR!!!

That wasn't var's fault, it is a stupid rule that they brought in, if a ball hits a scoring teams players arm, no matter if it is deliberate or if it has any affect on the goal, the goal is disallowed.

I bet the Spurs players agents are busy at the moment. I doubt Kane and Son, in particular, will fancy hanging around for much more of that.

Not a single shot on target in the whole match? I remember that well. Classic Jose

I’m just happy to watch us playing some decent attacking footy after the spirit-crushing tedium of Maureen and LVG.

I think we all know where we are. We’re realists, not getting giddy.

If they sign a decent centre half, maybe two, get rid of de Gea and get a right back who can cross, they’ll not be far off next season. Worrying times.

I didn’t see the match, but thought it would be an easy Wolves win

Watching Arsenals comedy defending just now was quite amusing though. Proper Sunday League stuff. An absolute shambles!

Kolasinac basically played the the perfect pass for Son to tuck it away. And David Luiz surely has to be the player who’s ridiculous transfer fees are most inexplicable. He’s absolutely hopeless!

Yep the ban was a joke, the FFP rules were always about protecting the established hierarchy, disguised as establishing a level playing field.

The application of the rules have been uneven and underhand, with "european royalty" Munich, Madrid, Barca, United, Liverpool and Juventus having far too much influence not just in the creation of the rules but in pressurising uefa into who they have been applied against.

This x 1,000,000 - while there needs to be limits on spending as soon as it's against income it skews the playing field in the favour of the big established clubs. Trying to keep the new teams from the top table.

Makes it interesting for 3rd to 5th, with a few matches between the contenders and Chelsea to play Liverpool, with having to fight for position and Liverpool levels dropping a few percent, the points record is in the balance as well.

Completely agree. If your club was brought by wealthy owners who invest in the area, academy and do everything right you'd be pretty happy. To me FFP is just a way to protect the existing hegemony rather than costs.

Cost caps do have a place but FFP is a joke.

Delighted with the verdict. I think pretty much any club could have been targeted by UEFA in the way that City were. There is no question with me that there is too much money in football but it has to be run on an even footing for all clubs and not for the benefit of cartel clubs which was the whole basis of "Financial Fair Play".

Juventus's Andrea Agnelli has been demanding guaranteed entry to the Champions League for certain "big" clubs which would make a mockery of the competition.

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/european-super-league-champions-juventus-andrea-agnelli-roma-a9377766.html

City's owners have been great for the club and Manchester in general. Contrast with United's.

Anyway... back to the footy

With Chelski and Leicester both getting thumped at the weekend, it’s our chance to capitalise and go third.

So, expect our form to collapse, at least one De Gea howler, Pogba to go AWOL (again) and a Danny Ings hat trick to end our unbeaten run.

Just a bit – lump in my throat seeing that. I grew up adoring that Leeds team - when sniffer goes I will be especially sad as he was my hero and I have very fond memories of talking about him (and Leeds' exploits in general) with my late grandad when I was a little boy.

Come on Leeds, let's do it this year. MOT ALAW

I love him, and he’s been bloody brilliant for seasons, but it’s just been one howler after another the last few games.

DDG’s decline is bizarre. For a few years he was by far the best keeper in the league and one of the best in the world. I’ve heard comments saying he’s only good as a shot stopper but his %pass completion is actually pretty good.

He never seemed quite the same after coming back from the World Cup in Russia. I wonder if Xenia Onatopp honey-trapped him....

Not sure if I can see DDG ever getting back to his previous level, which is sad as he’s only 28.

For all his promise I don’t think Henderson is quite ready for that level yet, certainly not CL. But I hope Ole is thinking of a way to introduce him to the 1st team for next year.

Still, well done to Chelsea, who were much the better team last night. Albeit with two extra days to prepare, which might explain why they seemed to have more energy.

Watford sacking Pearson is very strange. He's almost saved  them from what appeared to be certain relegation

However he does come across as a bit of a knob. There's probably something going on behind the scenes there.

@binners - I don't think he went full John Odious-Shit Terry. He is their captain and played most of the games. Terry's "magic moments" we're when he was banned or missed the final as he was pleasuring himself in a local park (or something like that).

You're just bitter 'cos Ferguson said he was rubbish and not Premier League quality or some other  nonsense. You've also got to reconcile why Utd paid £100M for their new keeper

🤪
