Mark Hughes must be on thin ice now! He's managed to change one of stuffiest, tenacious difficult teams to play against to the worst defence in the league.

City are absolutely taking Spurs apart here. They should be about 4 up by now

How many bookies have paid out on City now? It’s already done really isn’t it?

Not if all the teams City yet have to play follow Danny Murphy's advice to kick City off the park. Spurs tried and failed but could easily have ended Sterling and KdB seasons.

The way England players like Deli Alli and Rooney allowed to kick players and get away with it domestically is a big factor in the national team's underperformance at tournaments.

It is pretty sad when a talented team like Spurs resort to such tactics - they have form for it though - see last season against Chelsea

Lets hope Bristol are respectful in victory, and that their manager doesn't do anything uncouth, like running down the sideline or running around to all corners of the ground wagging his finger.

I'm sure I can feel the tremors from Ashton Gate from my house.
Probably the baseline as Bristol play a selection of tunes from their favourite beat combos in the dressing room.

their manager

He's doing alright to be fair. Seems a good bloke. As was his old man. I only hope he fulfils what looks like some potential.

Yes!! As a full-time Liverpool fan, and a part-time Robins fan (Mum's family are from there and I've been to see them a number of times and always follow their fortunes), this is a good day.

World class attacking

Sunday league defending

Under 12’s standard goalkeeping

Watching this with my scouse mate who predicted a 5-4 final score before kick off, but wouldn’t commit to who. He may well be right

Could/should have been 0-3 down at HT, but then within a few mins we were 3-2 up....WTF!

It was never going to last though! 🙁

Fantastic game! Utterly bonkers. 2 great attacking sides. 2 absolutely shambolic defences. Quality viewing.

Before the game we said this match would be decided by who makes the most defensive howlers.

Mignolet is an absolute liability. You’ll never have an even half decent defence when you know you’ve got someone flapping away like that behind you

Bog standard Liverpool! I've said that about Mignolet for a while binners - he affects the whole defence. Pulls off some world class saves but then all keepers do. Always got a howler in him.

The Mignolet "attempted save" looked like he'd been paid to let one in. Forfend.

It’s why they concede so many from set pieces. Watch any decent keeper and they’re organising and setting up the defence in front of them. At set pieces, or crosses whipped in, he looks like a rabbit in the headlights

Huh.

The January transfer window will open on Monday to Liverpool’s extraordinary world-record £75 million signing of Holland centre-back Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.

Wasn’t Lovran the last defensive solution to arrive from ‘name your price’ Southampton?

That went well

It won’t make a blind bit of difference to the hopelessly naive, headless chicken style of defence that [s]Kevin Keegan[/s] Klopp favours. Surrounded by mediocrity (at best), with a midfield that can only run in one direction, and with Mignolet flapping away behind him, his career will no doubt go the same way as every other defender who arrives at Anfield.

It’s fantastic to watch, but there’s absolutely no chance of winning owt

They did manage a ‘hens teeth’ clean sheet last night, but that was only because i’d had a bet on 5-1. Bastards! 😀

9 hen's teeth up to now in 20 games. So nearly 50% then.

Especially if Jose's sulks turn into his third season meltdown prematurely. £300m not enough. Maybe do a spot of coaching instead of whinging? The thing that strikes me about Pep is the improvement he makes to players - Sterling and Stones spring to mind in particular.

This ‘Statto’ stuff is fascinating, but isn’t there only one table that counts? And that makes pretty sorry reading for anyone who doesn’t support City.

Unfortunately, I think it might be looking like that for the next few seasons, at least.

They looked like they were having a kickabout down the park last night against Newcastle

I am bored of watching United this season, its like watching the team that played under LVG but at a slightly faster speed. No creativity and too many players being played out of position so the team is all unbalanced. Rashford, martial, mata, henrik m all of them being played out wide and all of them are better suited to playing centrally. But most of all as a united fan i am sick of hearing Mourinho excuses and moaning, he really is very hard to like. GGMU.

75 Big Ones for a defender is the final nail in the coffin for me. I've switched to watching non-league and judging by our local attendances, many others are doing the same.

Got to agree with Blader. I’m sick of listening to Jose’s petulant bleating. It’s always somebody else’s fault. Never his own

I reckon he’s already on his way to losing the dressing room like he so famously did at Real and Chelski, with the players downing tools. And his brand of anti-football is all just too tedious and predictable

Binners i reckon a few of the players have already downed tools on him, henrik looks like a man who cant wait to go and i reckon shaw isnt exactly beaming with smiles on his way to work. Blind isnt really pulling any trees up as he has no idea what position he is going to be asked to play in and Herrera has regressed probably due to not being played at the start of the season even though he was one of our best players last season, thats mourinho sucking the life out of these players. Obviously its not his fault, its every other teams fault for charging too much money to buy there players, what a pillock!

jose has a method and it is not about being liked or developing players

Most of us realise we wont catch city so at least be more entertaining to watch
We have payers like martial and rashford who can run at teams but we just need some more creativity - or for the boss to allow them to play more expansively

Its not pretty , its sometimes effective, its poor compared to city - though they are making everyone look poor.

No likes jose no the fans nor the players - the board when he wins and not when they just get all the baggage instead.

The trouble is big name transfers jack up the prices for everyone. The fact that Neymar went to PSG for nearly £200m has set a new benchmark, not just for attacking players, but players in all positions.

Also, this is the January transfer window and prices are always higher at this time. This is exaggerated by Southampton's poor form and their need to strengthen asap.

It's fair to say VVD hasn't been focused at Southampton for a long time, so he hasn't really played to his potential recently; especially has he's had an injury.

As a Liverpool fan am I happy we paid £75m for him? No, especially as I suspect this is us spending the Coutinho money already. However, if he helps improve our defence, then he could end up paying back what he came for.

Will he turn us into a title winning team? No, but him, plus a new GK and Keita coming in the summer, could go a long way.

Absolutely ****ing woeful! Rightly booed off at full time.

Slow, lethargic, dull, uninspired and sloppy. No creativity at all

I look forward to seeing who’s fault it is now. If only let him spend another half a billion he might be able to beat Southampton at home

Carry on playing like this and we can forget top four

Looks like city will be pulling even further away tomorrow, unless palace perform a miracle.

Only watched the 2nd half of the united game, had to laugh that Pogba's only notable contribution was to try and unnecessarily steal a goal on the line and thereby rendering it disallowed for offside.

Changing the subject slightly...it’s at least something that the big four are now the big six, which at least makes it interesting for the CL.

Carragher’s comments about the PL the other day are nothing new, I’ve been saying for years that the lower teams defensive tactics may be understandable, but it makes for shit viewing.

VVD has been effectively swapped for PC with a £50m profit.....is that bad business?

Who’s the most valuable player in the PL as it stands? Can anyone compete with Kane? Surely not?

Kane, De Bruyn, coutinho and Silva would be first choice in any squad. Properly world class match winners!

The strikers always seem to attract the biggest price tag, so probably Kane. But I have seen most of city's matches this season, and KDB has not gone missing in a single match, every game he is affecting the result, even when it isn't assists or goals it is passes that rip defences apart and lead to goal scoring opportunities, plus he does the work to win the ball back and defend as well. I have never seen someone play so well so consistently.

Most disappointing? Pick any United player bar Lingard, Matic and Valencia. Got to be Pogba or Lukaku. Huge money signings who’ve just totally failed to deliver

De Bruyne is the best all-round player in the PL, consistently, every game. Anyone who can eclipse Silva into the second best midfielder in the squad...

Worst possible result. A point doesn't really help our predicament but it probably buys our clueless manager another month, by which time he'll have wasted the Van Dijk money and the transfer window will be closed.

At this moment in time I couldn't really give a stuff about Manchester Utd or City ..or any of the other top six teams ..( Burnley apart who deserve all the plaudits going there way ..)
My personal focus lies at the other end of the table and Newcastle Utd..
I'm truly beginning to believe that despite his utterings to the contrary ..Ashley has no intention of selling the club and its all just another wind up..he knows the fans positively hate him and I think the feeling is mutual..
We are led to believe that negotiations have now stalled with the valuation between PCP and our beloved leader £50M apart.
This transfer window will make or break the club ..
If there is no significant investment in the playing squad then we are doomed ..Benitez will walk despite having the backing of the majority of the supporters ..we will almost certainly be relegated and probably go into the same downward spiral as say Leeds United ..
That may well please a lot of the country who seem pleased to spout out the old chestnut that we think we are are a big club and deserve to be winning something every year ..thats partly true ..we are a big club in terms of the support we get ..but we are not a successful club in terms of winning trophies.
All we want is a team who are able to compete and a brand of football that is enjoyable to watch ..and with the finances we generate we should at least be able to compete at the top half of the table ..
My last point with regard to the management / playing style ..
The brand of football we are playing at the moment is as boring as shit and I'm not enjoying it at all ..but with the limitations/ quality of the playing squad it's about as good as we can hope for ..
I hated every minute of last Wednesdays game against City ..but in the end we might have nicked a point and the fact that we didn't get hit for 4 or 5 goals could very well be worth a point at the end of the season if we are scrapping for our Premier League existence..
The next month could well determine the long term future of the club ..and I for one am shitting myself

The thing with Pogba is, was he ever the world beater he was hyped up to be. When the pundits were all raving about him at Juventus, I saw him in 2 or 3 CL matches and he was ok but far from great. Since he has been at united he good matches has got to be in single figures. So I don't think he has disappointed compared to past performances but only compared to the hype.

I think most disappointing compared to last season is Sanchez, in the past 2 or 3 seasons he has looked a Tevez type player, always putting a shift in on the pitch no matter what, workrate, skill and speed is a hell of a combination. Now he looks like he has downed tools, he might have a 5 or 10 minute spell in a match, but not every match and not a whole match. I don't want him at city now, he is already 29/30 and his attitude looks suspect I think there are better options.

I think he has already lost half the dressing room. This afternoon on the sideline if one of his players made a mistake he was just calling them names. Even when Guardiola gets annoyed with his players, he is telling them what he wants them to do. Morihno is just starting fights everywhere, and most of them are the wrong fights.

Binners - it was dreadful to watch but you could sense it was coming as we named every central player we had. When we did have any width we had to watch henrik m cross it in to the crowd, he was useless tonight, dread to think what his passing stats were. Only bright spot was Shaw as he didnt really do anything wrong and looked good going forward. But its a serious problem when match after match you can only say de gea and young were the best players. Lingard looks like the only person who is going to score, i shall rinse my mouth with soap for having to say that.

Don't understand his comments about not being able to rest Lukaku - surely Rashford or Martial could play centre forward rather than wide. Probably a not so thinly veiled attack on their ability.

Certainly not a manure thread! Interesting times there though with Moany doing his usual stuff!

I’ve always had a soft spot for NUFC and want them to do well, although not at the expense of the Gunners. It’s a big shame that they can’t seem to get themselves together with some decent investors. MA doesn’t need the money, he should do what’s best for the Club. I heard the Bournemouth Chairman (who’s name escapes me)speak recently and he was explaining how he helped out the Club and it had bbeen a huge roller coaster ride. He seems to be a top bloke and clearly loves the club more than anything.

Spare a thought for me Caher. Also a Reading fan, my home town club and all that but I also have a soft spot for my Mum's home town club, as it was also my grandad's and he used to take me back when I was little in the 70's, and then I went myself in the 80's when I was at University down the road. Newcastle 🙄 So whichever way i turn there's misery afoot.

BEst players
De gea - GK
Cant say any defender is that outstanding tbh
Midfield- De Bryune
Attack - Kane

Best signing Salah

Man u have top class, almost world class, water carriers in all positions except for when they play attackers in the wrong position

Essentially they have no payer who gets the ball and runs at the opposition and teams know every move ends with a sideways pass
It needs three things
1. Creatuvity
2 Genuine wingers or outside forwards but not mata or martial or rashford [ all trying their best] played out of position
3. Manager who is not just process focused. I dont think Jose, like arsene, methods work anymore and he can either adapt or demise. great managers adapt - I dont think he can personally. He is also a massive arsehole and his treatment of Sham, in particular, but payers in genera is to provoke and hope for a reaction. Eventually the reaction is for everyone to hate the manager.
He also cannot develop players, no one gets better under him, they just perform at their level

Well that was eventful, not many 0-0's that can be said about.

You can always tell when someone’s going to bottle a Penalty. Perhaps they should have let Benteke take it? 😆

Great performance from Palace though, and a great game for a 0-0

With regard to Newcastle, it’s a travesty what that club has become. But Mike Ashley will never have any other consideration for anything other than making more money for Mike Ashley. The bloke really is an utter and complete **** and I hope you’re rid of him soon

It was also class to see Guardiola and uncle woy, sat in the dugout having a friendly chat while their players got treatment at the end.

Strange refereeing in the first half, when the ref wouldn't let the physio on to treat Jesus. Also an odd penalty decision, 6 of 1 half a dozen of the other, Walker had made 3 or 4 stronger challenges muscling Zaha off the ball previously, and there were a couple of incidents where palace players made strong challenges in their own box that went unpunished, so the ref went against how he was refereeing the game up to that point in punishing that one, so I thought justice was done when he took such a poor penalty.

Hope al the players stretchered off are ok, I don't think the injuries really reflected the spirit in which the game was played, it was tough but fair in the most part.

Over the moon with today's result (Stoke 0 v 1 Toon ) ..with Brighton & Bournemoth sharing the points & Huddersfield losing it has closed the gap on some of our relegation rivals as any team from 11th place down are currently in that kind of fight .
Not expecting in typical Newcastle fashion anything but a Luton win in the FA Cup next week as you can bet there will be at least a handful of kids playing ..

From BBC website at half time

What do you get when you cross a typical Sam Allardyce performance with a typical Mourinho away from home performance?....nothing. That's what. Absolutely nothing.

Here is hoping for a 5 goal plus second half!?!?
