It will be interesting to see which way Arsenal go in terms of a new manager and how they handle it as a club. The only benchmark you can really compare it against is Alex Ferguson's departure from Man United - lessons learned maybe?

One thing I will watch keenly is how they will develop their squad given that Arsenal certainly don't feel like they have the financial clout of some of others in and around the top 6.

As for Wenger himself, as a neutral I'll miss him a bit - definitely a character I've warmed to and he has no doubt left his mark on the Premier League. I can see the gooners frustrations though - the demands of the modern game stand still for no man!

My guess for his replacement; they could do far, far worse than Dyche - but I don't know if he'd leave Burnley at the seemingly high point of their current renaissance?

RM.

What would everyone pick as there best gooners fantasy team under Wenger, Mine is below, but so many great attacking players that felt wrong leaving out, but they couldn't all be in there.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/37430014

Henry is still my all time favorite premier league player, and I support city. It wasn't just his end product, he just looked so right accelerating and running, with or without the ball, and had great control and touch. Sane reminds me so much of his style.

Nah, mad jens instead of Cech, Lauren at RB. Cesc and Freddie, ditch Sanchez. Overmars was brilliant for 18 months, Kolo unlucky to miss out as an invincible, Ian Wright happens to have our two greatest ever strikers ahead of him

I was probably swayed on Cesc  by his post Arsenal career, I think going to barca stalled his progression and he never became the player he could have been.

You gotta be kidding me.....Dave Seaman in goal every time!  Henry first name on the team sheet followed by Bergkamp, Tony Adams, Viera, Fabregas, Freddie, maybe Nigel Winterburn LB, not particularly stylish, but great player for us. So many players to choose from.

I am a City fan and admired Henry's skills but still think he is a disrespectful fool for this farcical incident with his mate Pires

Pretty lame from Spurs today - eight semi-finals lost in a row.

Any Tottenham player with ambition will surely be thinking about leaving now although, based on Kane's performance today, he would be lucky to get a move to Sunderland

Yeah, if you’re going to lose, make it a quarter final - at least the prize of a final place isn’t so close.

They’ve already over-achieved JY. They might get past Roma, but can’t see how they’d make it through a final against sides like RM or BM.

They have  over achieved but they are the perfect cup team and I think, in a one off game,  they have the attack to trouble anyone.

If they could let Jose do the defending and  Klopp the attacking they might just be able to beat Pep

Moving on to the most important game of the "weekend"..and boy would I love to win this one after the fat bastards smugness at SJP earlier in the season ..when it seems he was still in his honeymoon period ..eh Fat Sam !

Roll on a few months and it appears the Everton fans hate the bloke almost as much ...with a poll being taken this week by their fans ..add to that their dislike of a certain Senor Benitez for his Reds connection ..oh and their apparent hatred of the Geordie nation from what I read on one of the fans forums ..

I did find it a bit rich though a Scouser calling our fine flock ..tramps ..that made me laugh !

Anyway the atmosphere inside the ground on Monday evening will be positively septic ..especially if we score first .

Get your tin hat you gum chewing dick..I think you are going to need it !

Poor old Spuds....so much talk from their fans about the change in the balance of power in North London.   And yet we’ve just dumped our manager despite winning three FA Cups in the last four years and still in the Europa league.

They just don’t appear to be able to cope with pressure, whoever their manager is.

No Keown in that Arsenal 11?!  Got to agree that Terry Henry is still the greatest player to ever grace the premiership. An absolute joy to watch

For  me the pinnacle of the premiership era was watching the Arsenal invincibles squad going toe-to-toe with the Roy Keane Class of 92 squad with Ruud up front.

as close to open warfare as you’ll ever see on a football pitch

Gazza in his hey day & Ginola ..would be high on my list of greatest ever ..the fact that they made their name(s) with Newcastle United is completely irrelevant ...

JY - i think that Cantona was the most influential player in the premiership era, for what he drove those around him to achieve. A born leader. And also for being the coolest, most enigmatic bastard ever to step foot on a pitch, but for out-and-out sublime skill it’s Terry Henry for me. Bergkamp is right up there as well.

Good shout on Gazza. On his day, absolutely unplayable. This is still one of the greatest goals you’ll ever see.....

I normally hate it when the southern press poke their noses into the affairs of Newcastle United ( southern being anything south of the Tyne ) ..however I'm absolutely loving the fact that more writers & pundits are talking up Rafa for Arsenal ..it ain't happening by the way ..for a start there is too much of a penalty clause for him to walk away or for Ashley to sack him with still a full year on his contract ..but for once all of this southern press talk is working in our favour when it comes to Rafa sitting down with fat Mike to discuss extending his stay and the size of transfer kitty ...

Keep up the good work !

Up to 8th with a victory tonight ..c'mon you Mags !!

Funny....I haven't seen Rafa mentioned once.  Luis Enrique appears to be hot fave followed by Patrick Vieira, Joachim Low, Brendan Rogers and Thoma Tuchel.  Personally, I like the idea of Juve Manager Massimiliano Allegri, who has suggested he'd like to manage in England.

Either way, no mention of the Spanish Waiter! 😉

Edit:  another report:

The Juventus manager is top of the list of coaches that Arsenal want to replace Arsene Wenger, who shocked football yesterday by announcing he was standing down at the end of the season after nearly 22 years in charge.

But Chelsea have also made contact with the 50-year-old, who has steered Juventus to three successive Serie A titles, and whose club were Champions League runners up for the second time last season.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, whose team face Southampton in the FA Cup semi-final tomorrow, is also expected to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of this season.

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis, who paid an emotional tribute to Wenger, is pushing for Allegri, who is taking English lessons, to be given the job.

The other leading candidates to replace Wenger, 68, who won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups at Arsenal, are highly rated Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann, the choice of Gunners head of recruitment Sven Mislintat.

Anyway....some big games on this week, with LFC 9/2 to win their 1st leg against Roma.  Ive a funny feeling that those sneaky old eyeties will have a few tricks up their sleeves and grab a result.  Stranger things have happened!

Oh well ..not the best of games and while I didn't think we did enough to win it ..a point wouldn't have been out of the question ..

Nice to see at least one Mackem was happy at the end after the stick he got from our fans but he will be hurting inside  ..eh Pigfood and Fat Sams gob was keeping pace with the action on the pitch ..wonder if he wears a monitor to see how much exercise his mouth has done ..wouldnt be so bad if he kept it shut while chewing ..the slob 😁

WBA next and it's such a pity that Pardew isn't in charge still ..it would have been great to send him down ..not so much now though ..thats the worst feeling in the world ..

She’s  more bothered about the Wigan match 😀

5-2 leaves a lot of questions for the second leg. You’d think Liverpool have done enough - and you’d hope for an away goal.

Still - gives hope for Roma. It’ll be a stonking game next week.

Just realised last night after the game I'm in Germany at the Nurburgring area on a trip on my KTM when the CL Final is being played. Happily, I'm pretty sure the boys won't be that tough to persuade into going out in the evening to watch the game ! Could be very interesting if Liverpool make it and so do Bayern !

Liverpool got 3 yellows last night ,to arguably 2 of their key players. Hmmmm.

I'm looking forward to some stereotypical Italian diving, nipping & feigning injury in the next leg. I predict 3 -1 to Roma.....got to give binners some hope....;-)

It's rather rubbish about the crowd trouble though...Heard on the radio a fan is in hospital. 🙁

The 1970's called, they want their excuses back. Every league in the world has caught up with the Italians and Latin Americans at this now, if you don't believe me, watch a premiership match on any given saturday.

Bayern or real won't be so overawed in the final, roma had their game of the decade against barca, the others play in games like that every season.Liverpools defence is still not good enough, but what a brilliant attacking team to watch they are.

They have their good moments and their bad ones. Maybe more bad ones than some teams, but look at them against City the round before... Looked pretty solid overall.

I still think on their day with the attack as it is, they can compete with either of the 2 potential opponents assuming they make it. I still believe that again, on the right day, neither of them 2 can stop the attacking lineup of Liverpool.

Does that mean they'll win it... No, of course not... but DAMN they've got a bloody decent chance now !

I've got a feeling that they'll score at least one in Rome.

Salah vs an ageing Kolarov was always going to be entertaining, and so it proved to be.

I like Liverpool’s approach, a simple 5-0 would be a dead rubber but now is worth watching as Liverpool can both capitulate and score.

Hope the guy who was hit on the head by the ultras pulls through.

Well here I am again, sitting in front of the box (one day people will ask why it was called a box!) watching a couple of teams I don’t support.!

I’m hoping it will I’ll be as entertaining as last night, but Madrid have set up very defensively, so not a great start!  Going with 1-0
