You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm sure everyone already knows and I'm the last to realize or am I mistaken .
Annoyingly I erased VR and my maps from my main phone thinking it was now useless . I actually don't route plan but just found it wonderful for showing me exactly where I was on an OS map whenever out and about ..signal or not .
Tonight I suddenly thought if I'm not connected to the net then VR wont be able to tell me I can't use it anymore and decommission it so it's useless ( if that's how it works.
I simply switched off my WiFi connection ( on a tablet,) and fired up VR which then told me about Outdoor active but allowed me to continue using VR with all my 1:25000 maps. "Fantastic" ..I thought . Does this mean you can actually keep using the app and maps on devices but just not the route planning? If so can I somehow reinstall it all on my phone and start using again as long as the data connection is switched off ? Would it get put out of action if I connected to the web whilst using it ?
If it will work as long as you aren't connected then I'll simply use it on another device without any data connection or have I completely misunderstood how it all works ? I just want to have decent 0S maps on the screen with my location ...and with little expense which is what VR did for me .
Can someone enlighten me please or explain why my thinking is incorrect.
Thanks
Bill
Mine still works for fixing my position on my phone, with my maps still on there. Works whether or not I am connected to internet, just click continue with viewranger when it starts up. No idea if you can re-install yours though.
Mine too. All mapping still on there and works fine as a geolocation tool. To be fair I have never had any messages about it ending and needing to switch to OA either. I have done so anyway as we get the subs donated as part of being in the Mountain?Cave rescue. But nice to have all of he VR maps still on the SD card and useable.
VR still works for me too, both maps and GPS location (Viewranger 2018, iOS). My phone connects to both the net and the mobile network.
Not sure how the system works but I opened view ranger on another phone yesterday and it didn't give me any option to continue using it . It simply told me the app had been discontinued and to go over to OA. Still got it on a couple of old tablets though .. Hudl 2 's which have built in GPS so worked well although a little large to carry but nice for viewing.
Sounds like you guys still have older versions of the app. Having carefully avoided updating it for ages I had to re-install on a new phone last November when the old phone died (very annoyingly). That new version is now locked out completely regardless of airplane mode shenanigans.
There's a recent thread on here about how you can resurrect an older version of the app if you have been locked out of it.
Interesting .. I'll have a search unless you have a link?
I have an older version on several devices . Can anyone advise how to extract all the relevant data incl app and maps to transfer on to another device?
Yes already found that thread and pleased to say it all works and I could re download all my previously purchased maps so well chuffed .. thanks.
