This story appears to have disappeared from the media since January... is that because actually, nothing happened?

I've got a load of them camping in my back garden.

Oh hold on, no I don't. As you were.

On our road is one house owned by a (social?) Landlord, the family of Romany Gypsies like to leave litter EVERYWHERE, are noisy. Have had their door kicked in by a Police squad who arrested and took away the bloke and locked him up for Burglary. The house is in disrepair compared to every other house on our road.

Thats cobblers Hora. Everyome knows loveable Romany Gypsies live in charming rustic caravans, and sell lucky heather and suchlike. How dare you reinforce negative racial stereotypes

You'd have to clear out all the Poles first to make room for them in my town.

It turned out that the daily mail was in fact just spreading its usual fearmongering bullshit when it said that planes were booked chocka full of evil looking eastern europeans

not that theyll be held to account for it and the millions of readers will still think its the truth

Yes good point. The Gypsy pickpocket in Oxford Circus that tried to rifle through mrshora's bag and the woman with the thick skirt/socks and sandals with a swaddled baby who accident fell against me on the tube with her hand in my pocket has absolutely not coloured my view on the lovely people.

I think you find that it appears to have disappeared from the media since January because it is no longer a news story, ie, the 1st January, when all restrictions were lifted, passed a couple of months ago.

Or do you think every time a Romanian or Bulgarian enters the UK it should make the headlines ?

No, but Keith Vaz should personally be greeting ALL of them. And giving them a nice coffee and a cake.

As I don't speak either Romanian or Bulgarian I wouldn't really know where everyone round my way comes from. Perhaps we should campaign for people to wear badges, a bit like cars have to, so that we know where people are from?

Well, the correct answer is that nobody knows - so speculation either way is just that, speculation - because there are no figures yet!

Is Hora confusing Romanians with Romany Gypsies?

It's been good for us, we've got a bunch of Romanian students, some of them work for us, and now we don't need to fanny about with work permits and tracking hours worked and all that. Though mostly I just like not treating some of our students as second class.

Yes, he is.

A Romany gypsy bough the house at the end of our street; it was knackered when he bought it and is now immaculate. None of the predicted caravans or garden-shitting have materialised.

He offered to buy part of our garden, but we said no thanks. None of the predicted threats or intimidation have materialised.

He's a thoroughly nice chap.

hora - happily for you I think you'll find most Romanians share your views on gypsies. In fact IME most of them would probably not be too unhappy to see all gypsies rounded up and shot. 😕

I hear Wimbledon has been affected - a family who've lived there for years have brought their Bulgarian 'Great Uncle' over. He's a bit behind the times but the rest of the family are pretty good - clean and tidy, proper up-cyclers making good use of the things that they find...

My paternal 5xgreat-grandad was an Irish immigrant, who married an Italian immigrant. My maternal grandad was Scottish.

My wife's 14xgreat-grandad was French.

Coming over here, providing the DNA that will eventually result in my children being born.

That's not very impressive. At least I'm a proper foreign born immigrant.

Hora isn't your missus of non-white British descent? And your surname would suggest some kind of cross European migration in the recent family history? Maybe that migration was forced due to oppression or war?
I expect there are incidents similar to those in your street involving the same nationalities as your relatives going on in other peoples streets. Maybe you need to look at the bigger picture?
Just a thought like no offence intended.

ME! ME! we now have three swarthy looking bedraggled accordion players in our town. they're better than normal British street-dwellers who just sit there on the pavement in their North Face sleeping bags feeding their dogs donated M&S sandwiches.

My wife was born in Romania, although she is ethnically Hungarian.

She has both a Romanian and Hungarian passport, she travels mainly on the Hungarian one though because she tends to get better treatment if people don't think she is Romanian. I think that's pretty sad.
