A good port is rare as hen’s teeth hereabouts, so imagine my happy happy joy joy when I discovered, hidden away discreetly in amongst the wine racks in the ‘enormous-we sell everything’ supermarket when visiting the nearest sizeable town on the coast, this...

Neighbours are coming over for film night. Out come the cheeses.  🤤😁

I avoided buying some Black Barrel on Amazon, then walked in Sainsburys to find a litre of this for £17:

Image result for bacardi oakheart review

You get what you pay for, its not bad but not good either, better than the standard Bacardi...

somafunk - do you find that the CBD oil helps? I've been thinking of trying it.

Got this off someone in my club who had accidentally ordered 6 cases instead of 6 bottles! He could return 5 of the cases which left him 6 bottles to get rid of.

I'm scared to open it because I'm the only one who'll drink it and I'm conscious Port goes off after a while? How long can you leave it after first opening?

Have been eyeing up some Ardbeg Uigeadail after being given a taster in the wee shop in Bridge of Allan. My wife (bless her) got me some Ardbeg for Christmas but it was just the standard stuff (didn't last long anyway!). Hoping someone has picked up my hints for this Christmas, that or some Kilchoman.

Provided port is sealed it’ll last for yonks.

Don't you remember those decanted port crystal glass bottles your nan had?

Those were about 2yrs old if your nan was anything like mine 🤪

Its oak aged, should last at least a year..

Highland Park Spirit of the Bear. It tastes quite different to regular Highland Park, a bit of a salty or mescal taste to it. Very drinkable, bought from the airport just before a red eye to London.

SMWS Peat Faerie, a blend of Islay and Speyside. Rich and smooth like a Speyside, and with a hint of peat.

SMWS 72.65, a Miltonduff from a tasting I was at this week. A very nice dram.

Tawny or Colheita Port will last ages as it’s already oxidised, Vintage or Ruby won’t last as long, a good vintage needs to done in a week, a ruby could last 2 or 3 but not much more.

Aha, that must be what happened, last one I opened was pretty bad after a couple of months, forget what it was but it was a nice present, shame to have wasted it. Will open at Christmas and choke it down dilligently!

Take it as an excuse to drink Tawny instead, it's a more pleasant drink IMO, sweeter and last longer. Related, I opened some seriously good tawny last night to signify the start of winter.

http://www.chalicemead.co.uk/

Got some Mead in when visiting the West Meon Sustainability centre's open day. Queue politically charged folk music and air so thick with Patchouli oil that you could taste it.

Fortunately the Mead stand was very generous with their tasters and had lots of varieties to offer.

I got Hawthorne Mead and it was lovely.

Bought some Hudson Baby Bourbon as it had some money off it and seemed comparable in price to other decent bourbons. Bottle is half the size hence why its called baby I guess. Very tasty but not quite as much of a bargain as I thought.

I've recently discovered London Pride is available in cans of 330mls, am so happy that I'll be able to manage this as it means no wastage.  My days of drinking a couple of pints are seemingly well and truly over.

That Japanese white oak looks interesting! All Japanese whiskey bottles could do with a bit of a marketing facelift, as they always look cheap with basic screw tops.

Japanese whisky tends to be blended - certainly not a sign of lower quality as it tends to be with scotch.

Can't wait to give it a go, but i'm saving it for better company than myself.

In the mean time, some ruby port which is a bit more on the tawny side after sitting in my pantry for 10 years.

When I empty the barrels for bottling theres always a couple of litres left, which I save & let settle again before racking the clear off that for personal consumption. I forgot I had this until I pulled the kitchen out.

The label on analytical reagent grade bottles always makes me chuckle!

I thought this was going to be a Novichok topic though.

Got a bottle of this for the OH:

during the summer thatchers were serving it with a big lump of frozen cider and a wedge of dried apple - mmmm

Not recent, but not in the too distant past (May) I bought some of this.

Its really peppery and quite sour, ideal for mix with cucumber.

Sadly the maker doesn’t sign each bottle any longer, I think I may have one of the last batches where he did. Most of it’s been drunk now, but if you get to find some I think it’s worthy of including on your list.

Was on a cross Channel ferry on my birthday so treated myself to a bottle of Old Pulteney 2006 Vintage. It's like drinking the crunchy bit of a salted caramel creme brulee.
