Ok so im getting a (new to me) car hopefully in a few weeks. Having a new baby, biking and needing something reliable and good on fuel im naturally looking at an rx8.
Anyhow. Ive currently got a focus. 110k on it but with new clutch, tires etc and it runs well. its the highest milage car ive owned and im a bit concerned about future bills. The missus has a micra 160sr. Its a right hoot to drive and only has 35k on the clock. However its never had anything done to it so theres potential for bills in the not too distant future. Im no good at selling cars so im thinking if get 1k for the focus and 1.5k for the micra (both 2005 cars)
Both me nor the missus can decide which to keep. The focus is good for going to the tip but we use the micra more now as its more fun.
So I thought id ask you knowledgeable lot on what to keep.
Sell both and get a newer focus-sized car? Can't see you coping with all the new baby stuff in a Micra.
"... micra... only has 35k on the clock... potential for bills in the not too distant future..."
😆
Japanese cars are notorious for falling apart after 37k miles.
110k miles isn't very much and 35k is basically brand new. keep the micra and get a local independant garage to give it a full monty service including brake fluid it will last the rest of your life.
Selling a focus and low mileage micra to avoid potential bills and buying an RX8?
You're doing this the wrong way round.
RX8? I'd keep the micra or the focus in preference...
Andy - I would be interested in the Micra, Mrs needs a new(er) run around 🙂
yea its kind of a stepping stone, cant fit a tvr in the garage 🙁
Believe it or not (so long as you don't need a cot / overnight bag the micra is handy
I know oil is cheap just now but surely burning it in an Rx8's engine is a waste.
1.5l per 1k km was what a mate got
Focus as you will go through the fun of trying to work out what is needed to keep the baby alive for a bit, and will in the early days take so much stuff a micra would be a challenge.
The focus is a good workhorse that is easy to do move kids and they associated gubbins around in. Run it into the ground, sell the micra and keep that money back for a new car in a few years when the Focus smells of sick and has raisins in every imaginable crevice
LOL
baby is now 8 months. basically seems as coherent as its farther and as clean as its mum so its not that bad..... ish.... maybe not..
needing something reliable and good on fuel im naturally looking at an rx8
😆 😆 😆
Really???
The engines in them have a habit of going bang, they drink fuel. They are a low down sports car ie not practical for babies.
Get something higher off the ground that means you don't have to bend down to put baby in the car seat.
nope, sticking with it......
RX8, lovely looking car with a ticking time bomb under the bonnet. It's not a case of if it is going to fail more when it is going to go bang.
As you are not bothered about fuel consumption have a look for an RX8 with a 5.7 litre V8 conversion.

Andy - drop me an email if you do decide to sell the Micra, ta
will do. be about 3 weeks.
Cheers 🙂
I need to buy Mrs Q a car.
She wants a Nissan March, or a Honda Jazz, I think a '93 940 with a 1-UZ V8 fitted, or a Cefiro 2.0 '01 V6 is a better bet to keep the family safe.
I suspect I am going to lose on this.
