Spent enough on disposables, and bought a cheap rechargeable(£9.99) which leaks sometimes, but now want to buy a good quality vape.

So anyone with experience got any suggestions ?

Nothing brick sized, and nothing with multiple voltages/ohms, just a simple MTL easy to fill, doesnt leak too often, chambers/coils dont cost the earth.

Innokin adept works well for me. Well made and not massive clouds, much more like a disposable when you restrict airflow to 2 holes.

Very easy to fill, coils cost £8-10 for 5.

Only one button to adjust power, but I never touch it.

Difficult finding juice as flavourful as disposable vapes, bar juice 5000 are the best I've found.

I’ve been using a handful of these:

https://www.joyetech.com/product/ego-aio-eco/

…for about four years now. Cheapish, reliable, they don't make huge clouds, fit easily in your hand or pocket. The battery lasts just over half a day for me, so I need a couple of them. If you use a tobacco-ish flavour they’re quite like smoking

My only concern is that they might be on their way out. The companies like to promote their new devices, and this is quite old now. Other than that you cannot go wrong

I currently have a couple of these:

https://www.theelectroniccigarette.co.uk/voopoo-vmate-infinity-edition

They seem pretty good to me, no adjustable power, draw activated, good battery life, fast charging and don't leak. The replacement pods are £5 for two, and so far after 2 months I'm about to replace my first one so pod life is very good. The 1.2 ohm pods are the ones to go for for a decat mtl experience.

One gone from the brick sized thing with multiple power settings down to a pod system because it's less ridiculous than the cloud machine I was using and still hits the spot.

I say that but I've found nic salts dying really do it for me because there no throat hit compared to the 'normal' 50:50 type liquids.

I bought a Voopoo something or other and found it leaked easily. Leave it in the car or chuck it in my camelbak and it would leak. I replaced it with an I vs Xlim Sq Pro which is better, but still not perfect. The pods seem to last well but it's a bit faffy filling them up. I think that's an inherent issue with the pod style systems. The kit was about £30 though which is pretty good. The last tank I bought for the cloud maker was more than that!

The battery last me all day and it's USB chargeable. If it does run down, it'll charge to ~70% super quick.

I actually ventured into one of them modern vape shops to have a look and was recommended that kit. It wasn't as scary an experience as I was imagining.

For ease of use, I'd say a tank with top filling and replaceable coils along with a seperate battery (mod) is probably best. A single 18650 battery device won't be huge but will be markedly bigger (and better) than a disposable or pod kit.

I'd say go into a shop and have a chat with someone who knows what's what. If it sounds like they're just trying to flog you the most expensive thing in the shon then walk out.

I’ve been using the Totally Wicked ones for years (terrible name, good quality kit). I like the Arc5 The best.

Not a dig daft size. Does have adjustable voltage but I never touch it. Dead easy to refill and replace the atomisers, the battery lasts for ages and I’ve never had one leak.

Yeah found that out.

Stuff I got with the rechargeable was harsh as hell, then i got a salt which was meant to be better but was £1.99 and just as harsh. But watched a YT vid with them saying best to get the juice the same maker as the disposable you prefer, so got the elf juice and it was night and day. Very smooth.

I’ve had a Vaporesso XROS Mini for over a year now (last cigarette September 2022!) and it’s been great.
Unit itself cost around £20.
Has a replaceable/disposable tank/mouthpiece which cost  circa £10 for 4, they usually last 2-3 weeks.
It’s about the same size and shape as a highlighter pen and has no button, just works on inhalation. I found it was a good substitute for the feeling of drawing on a cigarette.
Have been working my way down the nicotine strength with it, having started in 12mg and now on 3mg with the aim to be off it completely by the summer next year.

Like @Binners, I’ve been going to Totally Wicked, but have been using their VLTZ re:fuel for months now, together with their liquids.

As long as I don’t neglect to keep the thank filled, the coil lasts for a long time, re-charging takes little time, and the battery lasts for a whole day. It also has a good draw and doesn’t leak.

I use a SMOK IPX 80 with nic salts. Pod type with variable power to the replaceable coils, and I like to use it MTL so use the 0.6ohm coils. It's rugged, so suits the outdoorsy types. Battery is quick to charge, and lasts well.

If you want a small, cheap, discreet  refillable then look at an Aspire Minican. Draw activated, no frills, bells or whistles and works amazingly well for the price.

If you want elf bar style flavours, try Elfliq salts, 4 for a tenner or so at The Electronic Cigarette Company

While we're discussing vaping I'll share this:
https://www.vapetown.co.uk/collections/vape-town-e-liquids

I get my e-liquid from this site. I only really do tobacco flavours (occasionally I'll try something fruity, but they tend to make me feel a bit sick after a while), and these are great. If you buy ten at a time they cost two quid each, which seems good to me. I haven't noticed any quality difference between this and other brands - I used to use Totally Wicked mentioned earlier, but they are far more expensive.

The site doesn't seem to work well with Safari, btw.

Finally opted for an Innokin Endura T20s

With such a choice of styles and features- for me less is best, I went for a style that wasnt too chunky and was a simple off/on mtl.

Looks to be a simple enough design for the coils- though on that note I'll work out over the months how many coils(£10/each) Im going to be going through a month, and maybe change to something else if it looks to be getting too expensive.

1500 ma/battery size is good and the tank is big enough. Might mod that later for a different tank. Again depends on which tank/coils work out cheaper

Came in a nice oil slick colouring. So overall happy with new vape, though I'll still buy the occasional disposable, as I like that sweetness

Only downside is theres no top cap, so sitting in a pocket it might get fluff/bits in the mouthpiece, but easy to clear really

Once I'm a bit more experienced in this thing I'll maybe look to the more custom kit style like some of the above, but for now the one I've picked looks to be good enough.

Thanks for all the replies, its a bit of a minefield, what with all the types of coils and wattage.

The issue with vapes, as I see it..
...is you need to need to decide whether you are going to use it to wean yourself off of nicotine or not.

Yes buy yourself a good one, it will have adjustable 'power', so you can 'dial it down' progressivley and also dial down the nicotine content, that's the whole point.

One thing that really drives me mad, as someone who is trying to stop smoking, is the huge clouds of candy floss flavoured 'smoke' they bellow out....

Just pack it in or smoke a fag.

Probably not, at least for the time being. no need really. Nowhere as harmful, and before you state it is because its nicotine etc etc , its probably as harmful as drinking beer, putting butter on your toast or eating cheese.

At least its not as dangerous as bombing down a rocky slope with little protection.

.

It isnt the point. The point of these high power is to enable larger clouds of vapour, as far as I can tell. Nicotine cant be regulated the same way as its the strength of the fluid used -20mg, 10, 5 or 3mg and so on.

One thing that really drives me mad, as someone who is trying to stop smoking, is the huge clouds of candy floss flavoured ‘smoke’ they bellow out….

Have you considered a vape ? very good for stopping smoking. and you can get tobacco flavour if fruit isn't top your liking.

Just pack it in or smoke a fag.

Smoke a fag ? after giving them up ?,well that would be really bloody stupid wouldn't it.

what's your point? seriously...

I agree with you that vapes should be basically illegal, but as a smoker trying to quit, they can be a good tool.

As a reasonably heavy smoker for 30 years and an on/off vaper for 6/7 years, I'm going to disagree

Firstly, I've ended up being more addicted to vapes than cigarettes in the past, with the thing never being out of my mouth, but everyone will use them differently I suppose.

Whilst initially quitting fags in favour of a vape, you do feel better for sure. However over a prolonged period of time I can feel them damaging my lungs. generally when something hurts, it's being damaged. Second to that, they sometimes give me nasty palpitations and what feels like a valve going into spasm in the left side of my chest. I've got to the point where I've thrown them in the bin and packed them up, as I could intinctively tell it wasn't doing me any good. And this isn't always when I'm 'caning' them.

Try patches as an option - they work for me, they may not work for you

Well I'll keep a watch out for such, but tbh after 30 years as a 'reasonably heavy smoker' im surprised you noticed, and it wasnt the damage done from smoking regular cigarettes.

My main goal was stopping smoking cigarettes. From then on it will be to stop smoking in general, but with the removal of the dangerous elements of cigarettes, the pressure is off so to speak.

I'm sure I'll give up nicotine eventually.

I thought this was quite interesting.

In which case, ban flavoured vapes. If it's for medicinal use, it doesn't need a flavour, and a flavourless vape isn't going to encourage kids to use it.

Strongly  disagree. You're simply substituting one addiction for another. Time will tell whether the latter is less harmful but given you are essentially buzzing gas I'm going to go for no.

Couldn’t agree with you more. Vapes are terrible and evil and after reading this I’m going straight back to smoking 20 B&H a day as that’s clearly a far better option

Thanks again for your contribution. You’re clearly some sort of visionary genius!

Have you thought about giving your own personal TED talks to about any other subjects you clearly know absolutely **** all about?

I’m sure everyone would be equally as grateful for your considered and insightful input

Nobody has commented on the mental health benefits of nicotine.

My insurmountable addiction was food. It had been for as long as I can remember, and even after therapy it was something I struggled with. I deliberately went in search of something with which I could replace it, and nicotine helped immensely. As in 14 kilos weight loss in five month effective. Additionally, my concentration has improved radically, and I am far more engaged with what's going on around me than I have ever been.

Vaping has proven an immense benefit, and I sympathise entirely with smokers who have used it to give up.

I smoked dope and cigarettes for over 20 years and I was damn good at it. When I decided to quit, which took several goes, it was the best thing I ever did.

I hope you manage to chuck it one day too.😊

Any potential damage caused by vapes compared to the damage done by smoking tobacco must be tiny.

Have you ever been in a steam room?

Have you ever had a face full of smoke from a bonfire?

Did you notice any differences?

The thing is, we probably won't know for sure for another 15-20 years. Have you heard of popcorn lung?

My wife's working partner gave up fags for vapes a number of years ago. She now has COPD. She may have developed that anyway, it may have been brought on by the vape. I could be wrong, but I think she was told it was probably the vape, but not 100% certain on that one

Nothing to do with the years of smoking tobacco then?

No one can say for sure whether she would/wouldn't have got it if she's just stopped smoking, rather than turn to vaping

Sat here with my vape now. But I'm using it very conservatively these days as patches are mostly doing the job for me

@gobuchul - steam rooms tend not to have a vapour that contain tens of chemicals that are marked poisonous when ingested! We'll see in the next decade what the damage will be...like we did with smoking.

The vapour from vapes definitely leaves an oily coating - containing whatever is in it.

They say the worst thing you can do is intermittently smoke AND vape - been guilty of that myself

Have you heard of popcorn lung?

Yes, I have. See below which is from gov.uk and NHS websites.

MYTH 1 -  E-cigarettes give you ‘popcorn lung’
One of the most commonly held concerns is that e-cigarettes might cause ‘popcorn lung’. This came about because some flavourings used in e-liquids to provide a buttery flavour contain the chemical diacetyl, which at very high levels of exposure has been associated with the serious lung disease bronchiolitis obliterans.

The condition gained its popular name because it was initially observed among workers in a popcorn factory.

However, diacetyl is banned as an ingredient from e-cigarettes and e-liquids in the UK. It had been detected in some e-liquid flavourings in the past, but at levels hundreds of times lower than in cigarette smoke. Even at these levels, smoking is not a major risk factor for this rare disease.

Hardly 'tens' of.  Ingredients in Vape liquid are - Vegetable glycerin,Propylene glycol, natural & artificial flavours, nicotine benzoate.

Nicotine is the toxic substance the warnings on the packet speak of.

Veg' glycerin - "Due to its ability to retain moisture, glycerin may be beneficial for skin health, digestive health, and improving athletic performance"

.

Propylene glycol - "Propylene glycol is also used in various edible items such as coffee-based drinks, liquid sweeteners, ice cream, whipped dairy products and soda"(Its what gives vape liquid its sweetness)

.

Natural & artificial flavours - No idea of any 'harms' as these are probably in everything, but its unlikely or it wouldnt be passed for food use.

.

Nicotine benzoate - This is the dangerous stuff if you ingest large quantities of it.

Good choice on the innokin, I’ve been using these for years.

The batteries will wear out, maybe you’ll get a year out of it. You can buy just a replacement battery, but seeing as the tanks also wear (and have a habit of cracking when dropped) having a whole spare vape on hand is my policy. I tend to swap the batteries over at the start of the day.

I’ll work out over the months how many coils(£10/each)

At £10 that should be a pack of 5. Beware of counterfeits, they’re terrible and fail nearly immediately. Buy from a vape shop, even an online one. I usually get 1-2 months out of a coil.
