Sounds a great deal like a TIA (mini-stroke) to me and if that is what it was, you need specialist review SOON (and you get that by referral, and you get that by turning up at GP or "a unit")

(I'd ask the mods to change title if I were you - mentioning possible TIA)

Sorry - you need to go to the docs now. Losing control and or feeling on one side of the body is not good at all. Think about what happens when there is an issue with your brain, usually - because of the bilateral division of the brain - if there is something wrong - one side of your body shows symptoms.

Happened to me - was a virus that extended into a nerve in my face plus a trapped nerve in my back. Curiously at the same time

Mate of mine had a full on stroke whilst out on his bike, get yourself checked out proper, on positive note he made a full recovery & tells some stories we can laughl about now - like managing to blag a lift but driver thought he was on drugs do kicked him out shortly after

I was wondering if the broken ribs from BPW a few months back, followed by the ahem, moshing on sat night caused a nerve trappage of some sort, cos the ribs were really sore after.

go now you numpty.  Phone NHS 24 and they will arrange you an ambulance. or get a cab.  Zero point in going to GP inthe morning - they will just send you to hospital and yo have wasted 12 hours+.  Take an overnight bag. when you go to hospital.

Read the tia symptoms- mostly that goes on about ‘brain fog’, nothing like that - was completely aware all the time - thinking something was going on with the bike ‘gawd those oval chainrings feel odd’! Etc

Symptoms

<b>Suspect a TIA if:</b>

The person presents with sudden onset, focal neurological deficit which has completely resolved within 24 hours of onset and cannot be explained by another condition such as hypoglycaemia. Most TIAs are thought to resolve within 1 or 2 hours but can persist for up to 24 hours. Focal neurological deficits MAY include:

Unilateral weakness or sensory loss.

Dysphasia.

Ataxia, vertigo, or incoordination.

Syncope.

Sudden transient loss of vision in one eye (amaurosis fugax).

Homonymous hemianopia.

Cranial nerve defects.

You don't have to have 'em all Dez, ^ the bold ones will do nicely (though you may feel cheated at not having homonymous hemianopia)

I had very similar symptoms (right arm and right side of face though, not leg), in three separate ~10min episodes over three days last year  Numbness in those areas and pins and needles, but no brain fog/neurological impairment/pain. Went to the hospital after the third episode and it turns out it was a brain bleed/chronic subdural hematoma caused by a bike accident two months previous where I suffered a bad concussion, that was pushing on my brain and creating the symptoms, though they initially suspected a TIA. Had an operation to remove the clot with has fortunately left basically no lasting effects.

Get yourself to A&E asap, as said above, particularly as you mention a bad crash at BPW. Better safe than sorry, hope it turns out to be nothing to worry about!

Seriously though, get yourself checked out ASAP. We had a lad in our bike club who posted something similar (without the vid ) on the club's forum page years ago and didn't take advice. It didn't end well. Like REALLY didn't end well.

A&E again. One of my friends is an expert in TIA's and has far too many "if only they'd gone to A&E they would still be alive/walking " stories. The problem is you feel better for a while until the proper stroke hits....

A&E, whole side sounds like a stroke, no matter how small. You might feel fine.

The MIL tumbled some 12 plus years ago in her bedroom. FIL nor one of the daughters thought much about it and only took her next day to A&E when she started to slur. She walked in fine, but damage was done - soon went down hill - treatment too late by then. She's been permanently parylised down one side as none of the three of them thought to get checked out.  Unlikely to be like this, but a numb limb is OK, but not a whole side.

I'm hoping your in the CT scan by now after then diagnosis etc...the site I tell my patients to read is NHS direct, it will tell you in good detail about causes and treatment...good luck.

I'm generally firmly in the "wait til it drops off" camp, but FFS you need to get checked out immediately.

As long as you’ve COMPLETELY recovered, seeing GP ASAP is appropriate. Any ongoing weakness or poor coordination = A+E..

Another +1000 for getting into A&E, even if you're waking up feeling OK this morning. TIA can be the precursor for another bigger event within a couple of days.

Morning all, Dr called at half past bleedin midnight, went through all the symptoms,  like ‘no’ er ‘no’, ‘nope’! and seemed happy it was probably a nerve thing; said to call 111 if anything showed up again, otherwise see GP in morning, which is what I’m doing.

Feel absolutely fine (except maybe a cold coming on).

So apart from right sided numbness, paralysis to your right leg and a loss of coordination you had no symptoms of a tia.

Yep, dialled 111 on advice from here. Never heard of it before, so that was great advice.

I'd bank it mate - you're a shoo in for halloween if you shuffle to the door dragging one helpless leg behind you and drooling out of the slack side of your face

Oh and to add to the 'bloody wierd' stories I had an episode of feeling a bit funny which apparently led to convulsions and then blacking out, except I was 6m underwater at the time.  By the time my dive buddy got me to the surface I was blue, unconscious and they couldn't find a pulse but a bit of O2 assisted CPR brought me round.  I got stroppy when they started talking about cutting my kit off and then I was able to walk to the ambulance.  Got discharged from A&E about 8 hours later with no confirmed diagnosis.  Bloody wierd.

I would've assumed a bit more ass-covering from them on this kind of thing. Don't underplay it too much when you see the doc. Show him/her the video!

Don't talk to me about cutting kit off - Ambulance crew were about to hack hundreds of pounds in kit off me when I broke my back.  Erm nope, they took my gloves, overshoes, shoes off, and made them be careful with the £140 soft shell.   Only had to cut the arm off the merino base layer.  Phew.

You're both men of a certain age - you'll have friends families and colleagues of similar ages. This stuff shouldn't be a surprise to either of you and it should be stuff you can spot and respond to appropriately when you see it.

The worst that can happen, frankly, is that you don't die. Clearly you've not had more than a scare - you've maybe got an early warning and so on. But the opportunity your brother gave himself for real, long term, horrifying regret is pretty profound.

Funk me, I hate hospitals, but even that would have seen me going straight to A&E.

Even if I was told it was fine on the phone by a professional, obviously something went wrong inside you - i'd probably want to know what that was, in case it happens again & I was to die.

+1 - what if a bus had been coming as you meandered across the road and collapsed into a field? I don't think I'd shrug that off as 'weird, but I feel OK now so I'll assume it won't happen again'

Strangely enough I'm sitting waiting for an ECG as well. In for a medication review this morning and Dr took my bp, heart rate showing around 40 which is lower than it should be apparently. It says on line is a symptom of being super fit 💪 but I doubt it's that.

I had a TIA a few years back. Nothing as fun as DezB's experience, I just became completely unable to make sense of written words or to remember any but the simplest words myself. I went downstairs and said to Mrs Owg 'bad thing, head' which was all I could manage - she took me straight to A+E where I was whisked straight through.The immediate care in the hospital was absolutely fantastic, and I got a full health check over the next few weeks with scans of every description. The reason for this is that 1 in 6 TIAs lead to a full blown stroke within a month, which can obviously be devastating and is expensive for the NHS. Wasn't allowed to drive for a month, but e<span style="font-size: 0.8rem;">ventually discharged with a clean bill of health.</span>
