Love the look of it and I am very tempted....
Has anyone here got one (surely someone will) and can confirm that they work well and match your IT job and Audi? 😉
PS - How did a not know this (blue tooth wireless cooking temperature gauge) was a thing?
Hi
I have used several different variations of meater, inkbird and other BT/Wi-fi based thermometers. Plus also gave one of the Temu copy versions a go
Really depends on your use to be honest. I use them predominately outdoors and have had to use an old phone to boost the signal from BT onto my wi-fi, the advantage of this is that I can then monitor the longer cooks from anywhere with signal. If I just rely on the meater's signal I find the range is quite short (especially when within a BBQ / Smoker / ceramic egg bbq) so has needed something to boost the signal.
I am usually monitoring several cooks or BBQ's at once, so I have found the multi-probe options from things like inkbirds very useful, but they are wired. If you are cooking on a rotisserie then the wireless option of the meater is great.
Meater works excellently within an oven, or if you can be within BT range without the need to something to boost the signal.
Temp monitoring, temperature curves and being able to monitor both grill and internal temp in one device is great - the Meater app is better than the copies - but you will need to play around a bit with the 'time to temp' settings to your preferred cook.
I have one. As (sort of) above, my only criticism would be Bluetooth range. If it's in my oven, I need to hold my phone up against to the oven door to get it to reconnect. It disconnects when going ~1m from the oven. In practical terms it means I have to leave me phone next to the oven at all times rather than having it in my pocket while I get on with other stuff, which isn't ideal.
I thought that they were a great idea. The problem, as pointed out to me by someone who worked at Which at the time, is if they stop being supported by the company that makes them for any reason, at which point they become e-waste.
I just use a thermopen thermometer, which I couldn't live without these days.
I've got the one that boosts Bluetooth, works well, but it's rubbish for chicken, I think the zone you have to aim for is too small so it heats up too fasy
Yep got one. You can link someone else to the cook. So my phone is by oven Mrs 100th has the cook on it.
It does get steaks right. Chicken seems to be too quick but it's pretty much spot on.
Yeah I have the OG Meater with the Block that boosts the signal. It's great. The app is very good too. Not tried any of the knockoffs!!
that's the same with a lot of modern smart device though 🤷♂️ At least if you go with a company/product that's been around for a while (like Meater), they're somewhat less likely to drop support or even disappear into thin air!I thought that they were a great idea. The problem, as pointed out to me by someone who worked at Which at the time, is if they stop being supported by the company that makes them for any reason, at which point they become e-waste.
Having said that, the BT protocol it uses has been successfully reverse-engineered so if you are techno-savvy at least with this there's always the option to connect it to Home Assistant if their app or cloud stops supporting it!
I've got the meater+ range is fine - have had a few issues with chicken too. You have to be careful where you put the probe if you only have the one probe. Ideally you could do with another probe (but I haven't) - one in the breast and one in the thigh somewhere as I have had the odd one end up a bit pink in some places. I guess generally it's hard to get a chicken cooked so that the breast isn't a little overcooked and the thigh etc is cooked properly. It's great on the bbq, even in an air fryer. I got mine in a Black Friday or amazon prime day sale. Too tight to pay full price!
