At much aghast from the wife, I've impule bought a kitchen-aid standalone mixer to get more into making pizza/bread/cakes/stuff!!

I know there's a fair few 'Hollywoods and Berrys' on here, so if you would be so kind to share your favourite bread etc recipies, I'll post some smells of baking goods to you...

Peter reinhard bread books or maybe reinhart. The bread bakers apprentice its a bible of bread making and the kitchen aid with the dough hook makes it all easier. Did you get the ice cream bowl?

No ice cream bowl..I went for the mini version of the mixer as our kitchen is (currently) not that large...

I might get the pasta attachment, as though it's the mini, attachemtns fit it.

I saw a recipie for icecream that you simply mix then pop in the freezer i.e not needing to stir whilst mixing..

Kenwood here, awesome bit of kit. Anything pastryish is a breeze, love making sausage rolls. If only there was a foolproof and clean way of rolling out pastry.

Hairy bikers do a good and importantly easy rowie recipe 😉

Delia's rich fruit scones are ace.

As for bread I started with Jamie Oliver's basic but he uses too much flour Nd it ends up dense. I prefer olive oil through the kneeding process avoids too much flour getting drawn in to the mix and ending up with an airless loaf of stodge that's too heavy to rise.

I made banana bread, pineapple upside down cake and cherry scones yesterday. All using a kenwood chef, if you're interested.

Although if you're using a kitchen aid I think by law you have to buy your ingredients at waitrose

I made a caramelised red onion focaccia yesterday. Usually I cheat and use a ready made mix and just add water/oil but I did it properly yesterday. I fancy making lardy cake at some point.

Kenwood Chef though, I'm not Waitrose enough for a Kitchen Aid.

You should have bought a [s]Kenwood[/s] Hobart N50.
HTH 😉

Hobart make commercial mixers and Kitchen Aid are the plastic-geared domestic division of the same company.

You could have bought a used N50 for the same money as your KA Mini but you'd be safe in the knowledge that you'll never kill it (they've been used to mix concrete by some labs).Plus you can fit all KA accessories onto an N50.

Things like paddles can be expensive though and they are a bit bigger/heavier than the KA.

Sharkbait..that would look lovely in my kitchen next to the walk in freezer, the 8 hob industrial oven, and the 4 shouty sous chefs... 🙄 😉

The kitchenaid is the same price as the kenwood mixers, so less of your snobbery!!

Usually has good offers on KA appliances if you aren't picky on colour. After Xmas last year I picked up loads of the Artisan range(mixer, food processor, blender, kettle) for about £600 total - same price as the rrp on the mixer!

...yes - that's all well and good but it won't go as well with the fairy lights in the kitchen dear.

I do all my bread/pizza recipes in my kitchen aid with the dough hook using Richard Bertinet's book. Highly recommended.

And this ginger cake recipe has been almost foolproof (until I slightly left the oven door open last week 🙄 ) and gets lots of compliments.

Having had a quick google, it appears sharkbait is incorrect - KA do not have plastic gears - all metal.

If you watch the video you can see *exactly* what they are made of.

I did, and that is the "pro" model. I wondered if the lesser ones had plastic gearing, but apparently not.

Tor5.. The £18 is just for the spout to fill sausages...not the grinder bit!

I believe they may have changed from plastic to powdered metal gears which are better but still not the real deal.
I'm sure the KA mixers are fine but I went down the route of spending the same money (less I believe) on a workhorse that will very likely outlive me and would probably go up in value if bought carefully - look at the deal someone got here!
My research (and use of my mums old kenwood) led me to believe that mixing bread dough is very tough on a mixer...
