Do keep up at the back, there have been armed police patrols around for years, although they’re not your average beat Bobbie or patrol car, and you don’t see them around so often now. They used to be seen regularly around a pub I used to drink at, to the surprise of visitors, and I used to see them patrolling in West Lavington when I used to drive down to Salisbury to visit a friend. This was twenty years ago, mind, and they were protection officers for Norn Iron ministers like Tom King, who lived just over the road from the pub I drank at.

I have colleagues who have been involved in fatal pursuits and have seen the toll that it takes on them. Friends have left the service or asked to be removed from specialist units following incidents like this. On more than one occasion I have had suspects commit suicide while on bail for offences. Should I be doing the hokey cokey? What if it was for sex offences against a child? Should that make me happy at a job well done? I can tell you that it REALLY doesnt. To make light of this in the way you do shows you as a bit of a tosser. In my opinion.
