And I need to some how cut it up into equal pieces. It was until today part of a path in the back garden, but after lifting it I've realised I could use it to finish a wall I'm building assuming it can be cut up.
Any bright ideas on a how IT geek / DIYer can chop this bad boy up?

Hire a disc cutter? Stone masons use old carpentry saws, if you have one kicking around.
I'd be looking to go right through it with a Stihl Saw.

Take it to a stone merchants/ masons. They'll cut it up quick smart for a few bucks I expect.
Take it along to your local stone yard and swap it for the stone you need

scribe a line on it . cut into line with hammer and bolster on a bed of sand then repeat on reverse and then whack it
You won't cut that with a bolster, it'll just detonate into layers. Stihl saw and diamond disc as suggested above is the way!
Cut that! bloody sacrilage. Sell it for a fortune to some one who appreciates it
2nd pic shows a crack in it. By cutting it you might risk breaking it into smaller bits than you wanted.
I just did this yesterday (with concrete)
Stitch drill it will a masonry bit, several holes in a line maybe 5 inches apart, then a firm whack with a sledgehammer. Increase whacking effort until you are raising sledge as far above your head and in fear of your life. (my concrete was over 12 inches thick so suspect you won't need too much effort, but the stitch drilling at least gives you a chance of it breaking in the right place)
My goggles saved my eyes twice, and steel toecaps saved my toes once.
York stone is layered and at thickness will not appreciate the "whack" technique, trust me it'll detonate bits everywhere!
Encourage lines of ants to cross the stone by laying narrow trails of sugar across in the positions in which you want it cut.
With patience, the footfall will erode the stone until such a time as it will easily fall into the required pieces.
This process can be accelerated if you can ascertain what beetles like.
