I had a very scary moment last night. I dreamed I was sitting in a classroom, and after a while the room started getting misty, then started fading to Grey. I turned to the person behind me to ask if they were seeing this and they who didn’t acknowledge my conversation, whilst doing so I heard a door open and close behind me.

I turned back to see a teacher style lady in front of me visibly ageing. As she got older, greyer an more haggard, the more grey the room went. She started turning impossible old and clearly dying at which point the realisation that what I was experiencing was my own death. I suddenly got very scared, started to panic and desperately seek a way to stop the process. Until it almost became inevitable….

Then I woke up. I’ve never woken up so scared, ever nor had such a vivid dream. I was so convinced I was just about to die in my sleep, I checked my pulse and updated my garmin to check any issues with heartbeat. A very scary moment indeed.

I once dreamt that I was a cannibal, but then I finished eating all the other passengers and realized I was going to starve. Made me very anxious.

Sounds like subconcious worry that your time is running out.

Time to buy another watch/bike before its too late....

Speaking of 'time running out', have you told your present employer (who disrespects you) where to go yet?

I wouldn't be too worried, I had regular re-occurring dreams of rotting from the inside for over a year, following getting heavily involved in occult stuff at an early teenage years.

The likelihood of you suddenly dying in your dream sleep is about the same as me suddenly becoming possessed or growing little cloven hoofsies and horns

I thought I was going to die once.

Bodyboarding with my 8yr old daugther off Manorbier beach - been at it for ages with no issues. Then whoosh suddenly swept out with me desperately clinging on to my daughter. A surfer who's name I'll always regret not getting pulled us back in. I just walked up the beach to my wife in shock and ghostly white.

By far the scariest moment of my life.

As an aside for @SSS

No, I decide to not make a fuss, assume the role (and the top accounts I’m being given, commission) and keep working on “what I want to do next” before I resign and move on. At least way I have a job. I’m completing the exercises in the “parachute” book over the Xmas break to inform me.

I have been for 3 like for like interviews, all good but they don’t excite me hence the above. Oh, and I’m making good use of my company expenses card.

I once awoke in a hospital bed with no idea how I had got there. Apparently I had died earlier in the day but by a fortuitous chain of events had been resuscitated and transported to hospital. This wasn't a dream though.

My recurring nightmare is im losing my bike, which for some reason is always red, even though it's blue. More often its a case of I've locked it up somewhere and either forgotten exactly where, or the journey to find it gets longer and longer and i get distracted by other things.

@£5k+ thats probably got a lot to do with it, worrying it will get nicked.

I had a total trip out on nitrous oxide when I was in hospital. There was a doctor trying to set my broken ankle as the plaster set, and a male nurse administering the pain relief.

I went through the whole cycle of thinking of I was dead, panicking, being upset, and then coming to terms with it. I was convinced the nurse was a an angle who could get a message back to the living people I loved and had left behind. The doctor remained very calm, so it though he was Jesus. Even though I was shouting and ranting and raving he slowly asked if I felt any pain. Because I didn't I then knew I was going to heaven....

Not long afterwards I realised I was just being a bit silly, and the head of ward opened the door to see what all the shouting was about.

It was very profound, coming to terms with my own death, but without having to actually die.

Pah, wait till you have had the first dream after a few weeks of constant skydiving. Not so much fading out as all the malfunctions and a ground that is getting closer very quickly.

I did once dream, after a week of dinghy sailing with a friend, that the caravan i was staying in was capsizing. That was funny, trying to right a caravan in a semi-awake state

Vivid dreams are both scary and incredible.

I used to have a dream where I was running between 2 blocks of flats, got shot, woke up, got shot again, woke up and then woke up properly. Felt so strange and real that it takes me a few seconds to come round when I actually do wake.

Not had it for a few years - probably will now 😀

Also get dreams where they continue the night after. God knows how or why that happens, although they are usually very vivid, so I guess must be linked to something in my mind at the time.

Still have a recurring dream where I've not started my college coursework. It's worth it for the pure relief when I wake up. Guessing I'll never grow out of that one. It's been over 20 years since that dread was real.

OP, Sounds like you dreamed of the passing of time.

My dream is mostly related to dead people or hell gate which is getting rather boring now. Some are recurring dream hell gate.

However, last week, for a change, I dreamed of various female private parts. I mean all shapes, forms and looks and there were at least 12 of them but just the private parts, no other body parts LOL ... "someone" must be winding me up even in my dream.

I dream most days as I suspect it is due to my sinus blockage cutting off oxygen to my brain resulted in hallucination in my sleep.

I used to have a weird dream very art movie. Huge tap, tiny drip, massive splash followed by tiny tap, huge drip, tiny splash. It would just repeat and it really freaked me out, still does decades later.

Finally figured out the cause Barbar the elephant, well his kids and the old lady. They used to hold hands. Frail old lady hands huge elephant feet. It obviously tripped something in my brain.

Anyway, carry on.

Troublesome to say the least as they are 60% blocked. This is caused by allergy apparently ...

If I were to do some quick walk or run etc, I will need to breath from my mouth otherwise I will feel dizzy.

Wonder if I am hallucinating in a matrix now ... while awake. LOL

I don't remember dreams often - but when I do they are abandonment / paranoid dreams - and this was before Mrs TJ died as well as since. One time I dreamt she abandoned me in a bus station - I was so angry when I woke up. " that bloody woman - how dare she"
Recently I have been dreaming I am crying which is a bit weird. Takes a while to work out if I really have or it was in the dream.
However I obviously do dream a lot as I am all over the place in bed. I have woken up across the bed or with my feet and legs out of the bottom of it. Most mornings the mattress has moved 6 inches on the bed frame in any direction and the pillows can be anywhere - I have 5 on the bed so I can find at least one when i am fighting with them and once I woke up inside the duvet cover head first.

I really must get a motion activated camera to see what I am up to

There are actually guides online about got to achieve vivid dreams. Sounds of the methods are obviously dodgy!

You can get over the counter sleeping meds Phenergan(sp?)(also used for travel sickness) etc and they give me really vivid dreams. Not pleasant at all. I don't usually get nightmares, just the normal surreal stuff but with a real dark sense of foreboding/ evil in them somehow. Hard to explain.

I had those dreams too. Took me a while to get over them. I could talk in my sleep and or get so angry (normally fighting with "people") my heart beat could beat so fast it woke me up. As much as I try to control my dream, but most of the time I forget I am in a dream. On the other hand, my cousin has the ability to control his dream. He has mastered the ability to turn himself into a "superhuman" LOL. Not sure how he does it but he can.

Dreaming of the Oriental Angel of death (hell guardians with long tongue sticking out scary face) can be rather funny for me because both of them are always waving at me, like they are "welcoming me". I just smiled at them and sense no fear or fright at all. In my mind, I was saying what's the hurry because we will eventually meet anyway.

There are actually guides online about got to achieve vivid dreams. Sounds of the methods are obviously dodgy!

Avoid at all cost. Vivid dreams or generally all sort dreams are not good to have. The best is to have no dream at all.

Reading this has made me realise that I can’t remember any dreams from my adulthood. Feel like I’m missing out after reading some of these. The last two dreams I remember having are both from my twenties.

First one was after watching Event Horizon alone. Rented it knowing nothing about it and thinking it was just sci-fi. Fell asleep on the sofa and woke up to any eyeless Sam Neil strangling me. Then woke up again in the dark, turned a lamp on and there was Sam Neil, the eyeless bastard, who immediately began to strangle me again. Woke up, for real this time, with my own hands around my neck. I sat in the dark shit scared and wide awake until it got light outside. God knows what that says about the state of my psyche 😂

The other one was just plain infuriating. I was having an action movie type dream with me as the protagonist. I can’t recall the detail other than it was rad. Vividly remember rolling over some train tracks. Then a freight train came by for the remainder of the dream. I could just get glimpses of explosions, stunts and other insanely great looking stuff between the carriages as they rolled by. To this day I recall waking up really pissed off!

When I'd newly given up smoking, I often dreamt about smoking a cigarette, dreams that were so vivid and realistic that for a couple of moment I'd be pretty pissed off that I'd picked up the habit again after all the work to give them up. It would take sometimes a few minutes to realise that I was either still dreaming or only just awoken and that I'd not really started smoking again. Really odd what your mind gets up to.

I regularly (maybe once a month) have sleep paralysis demons. It’s quite routine now, but was scary at first and it’s very disconcerting for my partner.

I'm unable to move whatsoever. There is someone/something in the room slowly coming towards me, I then feel them start to strangle me. I can’t move, completely locked in, I can’t shout or scream, just make very strange noises. My partner can see me trying to scream and escape…..but I can’t as I’m locked solid. I can’t even scream as my jaw won’t move, so I make really weird noises!

I fell really ill whilst in Australia back in 2007, and awoke in a hospital bed.

I said to the nurse, with intrepidation in my voice, "did i come here to die..?"

She replied, "nah, you came here yesterDIE"..

Very scary indeed.

I had an experience where I thought I was dreaming but actually wasnt. I "dreamt" i was in a hospital bed but the nurses i could see were like angels in pure white uniforms. I looked at my watch and it had a dozen or more hands so was unreadable. Then a sound roused me. India 99, GMP's helicopter* was circling nearby.

*pre NPAS

It transpired that I had been admitted to hospital with dangerously low oxygen saturation (66%). I was hypoxic on air and was transfered to ICU.

I spent three weeks in hospital being treated for an autoimmune disease that had attacked my lungs' gas transfer ability.

Wegener's Granulomatosis was diagnosed from symptoms and CT scans.

Does that cause "hallucination"? i.e. due to low oxygen.

I can dream a lot due to my sinus blockage and perhaps lead to low oxygen?

I can usually remember my dreams and can often decide on the narrative or make choices to change the outcome.

However, having said that, I recently woke up being really confused and feeling resentful towards the GF. Dreamt that she had decided to adopt triplets. Feeling angry in the dream and then this weird feeling of acceptance that my life was over and now had to look after kids.

Not sure how many others here can relate, but when you stop smoking copious amounts of weed due either to events outside of ones control, a lack of supply or just to prove to oneself that one isn't addicted, you get mad dreams.

Really vivid. Surreal.

It's worth giving up the weed just for the dreams. Sadly the mad dream phase doesn't last long, maybe a week or so.

In 2009 I was put in ICU as I had a severe case of encephalitis. I was pumped full of drugs and had some very disturbing dreams many of which took things I could see whilst conscious and then constructed a scenario around them.

Memorable scenes included sitting by the bank of a river or flame/lava as it went down a cliff to the entrance to hell and being urged to jump over the cliff by an old decayed woman - I think this was triggered by my wife sitting in the chair next to the bed and talking to me.

I also dreamt of being on a conveyor belt with my skeleton removed and lying next to me and the conveyor again taking me to my doom.

I apparently bear a passing resemblance to Jack Dee and I think someone must have mentioned this as he appeared in my dreams torturing me in a portal to hell located under Tewkesbury! Other people I seemed to know had been tortured and reduced to living slime contained in transparent tanks.

As I recovered the dreams became less weird. In one I was pursued by killer trains on the London underground which somehow morphed into the local swimming baths with someone trying to drown me. I then became convinced that I was in a film and what was going on was just scenes from that and nobody was really trying to harm me.

This experience left me fairly freaked out for a few months and it did not help that my company HR department effectively forced me to return to work earlier that I should have.

I am not particularly religious but obviously have a deep-seated fear of the conventional idea of hell.

After a bit of research I found that my experience was not unique - not something that I care to repeat but kudos to the ICU staff for saving my life and putting up with my crarziness as I was quite loud apparenttly.

@chewkw

Yes. Classis "mountain sickness" or hypoxia.

My case was more complicated as I was also serioulsy malnourished. I hadn't eaten for three weeks and my body had started to digest heart muscle! This meant my blood test showed the enzyme(s) that indicate a heart attack. I was a mess.

Not quite dream-related, but similar... My pal John went to sleep with his arms stretched over his head and in the night, they went completely numb. He woke up, not being able to feel his arms - and looked down and couldn't see them either! He started panicking and shouting that someone had stolen his arms in the night. At this point, his struggling to get up caused a heavy, dead arm to flop into view, which I think only made things worse as it obviously wasn't his as he couldn't feel or control it... Eventually he realised that his arms were indeed still attached and then just had to wait through ten minutes of pins and needles as the feeling returned...

Since he told me that, I've been careful not to fall asleep with my arms over my head.

I don’t suppose Sarah Michelle Geller’s in it, by any chance, or Alison Hannigan?

Not sure how many others here can relate, but when you stop smoking copious amounts of weed due either to events outside of ones control, a lack of supply or just to prove to oneself that one isn’t addicted, you get mad dreams.

As above ,for sure. Mad violent dreams, of bloody murder, frantic disposal of bodies under the livingroom floorboards.

once I woke up inside the duvet cover head first.

😳 Honestly, tj, I’m struggling to parse that statement, I have enough problems trying to get the sodding duvet inside the cover!

No, not nasty dreams. Just very surreal, vivid and generally good vibes.

Yes. Classis “mountain sickness” or hypoxia.

My case was more complicated as I was also serioulsy malnourished. I hadn’t eaten for three weeks and my body had started to digest heart muscle! This meant my blood test showed the enzyme(s) that indicate a heart attack. I was a mess.

Thanks for information. I am not sure I am at that stage (hypoxia) yet but my blood circulation ain't good due to past injury to my lower back. My diet is ok as my weight remain the same as 5 years ago. Could loose another 3kg if I can. Anyway back to dreams.

Funny thing is that my dreams are very distinctively heaven, middle earth and hell. The one in heaven is usually alright with plenty of floating palaces, religious people etc. Dream of middle earth is usually related to village and city life. Dream of hell is usually related to hell guardians and purgatory. All very real as I can feel, smell the air/breeze, temperature and see the surroundings very clearly.
